Chiefs day in camp: Depth chart not one of Haley’s favorite things (http://www.kansascity.com/2011/08/09/3067811/chiefs-day-in-camp-depth-chart.html)
The Kansas City Star

ST. JOSEPH | One of Todd Haley’s annual aggravations at training camp is the mandatory public release of a depth chart. The Chiefs made theirs available Tuesday.

“I know the depth chart is like Christmas for you guys,” Haley said at his daily news conference. “You want that depth chart. But it doesn’t carry as much weight in our meeting rooms and our team rooms and our player rooms. Our guys understand what their task is right now. … They understand their roles and understand that role could change week to week as we go.”

The version issued in time for Friday’s preseason opener against Tampa Bay at Arrowhead Stadium contains no surprises. The Chiefs continue to list Dexter McCluster as a wide receiver when he’s spent most of his time operating out of the backfield.

Thomas Jones is listed as the starter at running back ahead of Jamaal Charles, but the Chiefs almost always defer to the veteran in cases like this. Tyler Palko is the No. 2 quarterback instead of Ricky Stanzi, but that mirrors how things have gone on the practice field.

No local blackout Friday

The Chiefs still have tickets for sale to Friday night’s preseason opener against Tampa Bay at Arrowhead Stadium but said the game will be shown live on Channel 4 in Kansas City. Kickoff is 7 p.m.

The game will also be shown nationally on Fox.

How to track tickets

According to tracking information, about 98 percent of the Chiefs’ season-ticket orders have been delivered either via FedEx, or in cases where a post-office box is the account address, by USPS Priority Mail.

However, those who have not received their tickets may go to www.mychiefsaccount.com or go to the tab My Chiefs Account for ticket forwarding or printing at kcchiefs.com. Once logged in, ticket forwarding allows season-ticket holders to forward tickets to friends (or their own email address for printing) by email, until two hours before game time.

Because of the compressed timeline between the end of the NFL lockout and Friday’s preseason opener, the fees normally associated with the ticket forwarding or printing will be waived for the first preseason game.

Things steady at backup QB

The Chiefs have made no move for an experienced backup quarterback for Matt Cassel. They’ve stayed with veteran journeyman Tyler Palko and rookie Ricky Stanzi

“We have to continue to monitor, pay attention to who’s available, pay attention to how our guys are developing because they are young developing players,” Coach Todd Haley said. “I know they’re both making progress.

“They’re going to get significant action in these (exhibition) games. We’ve got to see how they’re progressing, but I’m encouraged by their development, both of them. Tyler has now been around a little bit, but he’s going to get to see hopefully more action than he’s seen to this point in his career.”

Tight end Tony Moeaki didn’t get a lot of work in practice, but he did go up high between two defenders to snare a pass from Matt Cassel in a seven-on-seven passing drill. … Receiver Steve Breaston made a diving catch of a Cassel pass along the sideline in front of safety Kendrick Lewis. … Receiver Jeremy Horne made another big play when he beat defensive back Demond Washington down the right sideline and caught a long pass from Ricky Stanzi.

Rookie Allen Bailey replaced Tyson Jackson with the first team at left end, but the move doesn’t look permanent. The Chiefs occasionally replace starters with backups during training camp. … Dion Gales was the right end instead of the injured Glenn Dorsey.

Injury report
Fullback Tervaris Johnson did not practice. Dorsey started at practice but left early to work with the trainers.

Daily battle
Jerheme Urban continues to hold a starting spot at wide receiver opposite Dwayne Bowe. Urban is fast and has a reliable set of hands, making him a nice complement to Bowe. The Chiefs drafted Jonathan Baldwin in the first round and signed Breaston as a free agent. Baldwin has been limited in practice because of a sore hamstring. Breaston has been playing mainly when the Chiefs bring in a third receiver.

The Chiefs will have a walk-through at 9:45 a.m. and a regular practice at 7:15 p.m.

Preseason has always been a grading scale with Haley.

He likes to let you know where you are (concerning what he expects/wants.)

Yet another hard charging piece of journalism by Teicher.

Tomorrow I expect an article from him about Karen Kornacki's flower garden.
