Just got the call that my Grandfather passed away. He had been suffering from a very rare cancer for the last 11 months. He was 88 and was really still full of life untl the last couple months. He was in so much pain and wanted to go but the good Lord was just not ready for him until tonight. This is a man that never missed one single baseball game for the entire 10 years I played. Always stood by me even when I did stupid and idiotic things in my life and made sure I had a good head on my shoulders. I am happy he is no longer suffering but it still sucks ass to see the best friend you ever had pass away.

Sorry, I just needed to get this out of my system and love me or hate me, Chiefs Panet has become a daily part of my life.

Im so sorry to hear that. I Pray God brings you and the family peace. I lost my Grandfather the same way. It was prostate cancer and he was in so much pain I prayed that he would heal him or take him. I didn't want to see him suffer anymore.

The old man was one tough bastard. He wasn't supposed to live past Thanksgiving and here we are almost a year after he was diagnosed.

I don't know you, but I do know how hard it is to lose a grandfather who you share a special bond with. Stay positive, and remember the good times. He was a lucky man to live 88 years and have a strong relationship with you.

It's tough losing someone like that, especially when they're in a lot of pain leading up to it.

My grandfather just died on Tuesday as well. I was able to see him last week for the first time in five years. I hope you were able to spend some time with yours toward the end as well.

Everyone who has been there knows what it's like, everyone who hasn't dreads the day.

You'll get to the point where it's just good memories and silly things that make you grin when you're driving alone and see, hear or think of something about them.

Been there.

Odd story. Lost some weight and my grandmother gave me a bunch of my grandfather's dress pants.

Yeah, wasn't much there I'd wear but he had 3 or 4 khaki pants that fit. Tried them all on and found $2 in one of the pockets.

Sat there thinking "this is the last $2 the man had. Last bit of cash he touched."

I still have the bills.

My condolences, Pete. I lost my grandparents on my mom's side over a decade ago and almost as long for my grandpa on my dad's side. I know its hard, but your grandpa sounds like he was a great man. Be happy that you got that many years with him and cherish those memories.

I will pray for you and your family.

Again, thank you to everyone. Your thoughts and prayers are very much appreciated. You never would think of a bunch of people on an internet board that you don't know personally as family and friends but I think we have a pretty special gig here and despite our arguments over football and baseball and sports and politics and whatnot, it makes a person feel good to see the intraweb love we all share when it comes down to it. Chiefs fans are pretty damn awesome people!!!

Sorry for your loss....I just lost my father in law last week and just got back from the services yesterday....The thing I hate about cancer or any other terminal illness is that you know it's going to happen but never prepared when it does.

In February, I could have posted almost the exact same post. My Grandpa was 81 and some piece of shit cancer decided to invade his bile ducts. The year between his diagnosis and death were, however, beautiful. He moved in with my Mom and Dad (who live 15 miles from me) after having lived 1.5 hours away my entire life. We spent so much Q.T. which, in a way, made his passing harder, but now I'm so grateful for that time.

Pete, we're probably seperated by several years, but feel free to PM me if you want to share stories/feelings. That experience is still fresh with me.

Sorry to hear that. I lost my grandmother earlier this year to cancer. She was my favorite person.

A good grandparent can mean a hell of a lot in a person's life. I'm glad you got to have a good relationship with yours.

Here's to the memories.

My condolences to you, Pete. I envy you, though. I never knew either of my grandfathers since my parents had me when they were in their 40s. My dad's father died a few months before I was born and my mom's died when I was 4 and a half. He lived in Denmark, so I only saw him once when I was 18 months old, so my memories are a bit fuzzy... But, I have always wondered how great it would have been to go fishing with Grandpa or have him come see me play sports, or even just to go and visit him. I know it would have been great.

I'm sorry to hear this. I'm dreading the day we all have to face at some point, if we live long enough. I'm 28 and both my sets of grandparents are still alive, and even one great-grandmother. But time is flying by so fast. I hate that they will die sometime fairly soon.
