I watched 3 quarters before nodding off. Didn't rewind it or watch anything twice. My gut reactions:
1. Cassel - I don't know what to think. On one hand he was tossing some bullets into tight windows for Bowe, but Bowe really wasn't open. He has no chemistry with any receiver other than Bowe. Looks lost ever since Weis packed it in in week 15. He needs to play 3 full quarters next game and show something. (On a side note, Smith is going to be a monster corner for the Ravens. Wow, man-on-man on Bowe and even though a few passes were complete, the kid had really good coverage.)
2. Palko - On one hand, I want to give him credit for facing a mean pass rush every play and making something happen. On the other hand, throwing balls like your making a fade-away jump shot can't be good long term. I'd like to see him work with a better OL. At least he didn't melt under pressure and was able to spread the ball around. He made the Ray Farmer chicken salad sandwich.
3. DL - first string DL did a good job against the run. TJax had a better game than Dorsey. He commanded double teams and got some pressure. LB's filled gaps nicely.
4. Pass D - horrible. The stats might not show it, but the Ravens had WR's open on 3rd and long all night long. They didn't always complete the pass because Flacco was bit erratic (albeit not under pressure), but guys were open. Bolden getting behind all of our secondary?? Seemed like the Ravens had no problem picking on Flowers.
5. Dex. Looked good out of the backfield. If he and Charles can stay healthy, they might be able to do some damage utilizing a west coast type passing attack.
6. Backup OL - Whoever scouts and evaluates collegiate OL should be fired.
That's it. I'm looking forward to game 3 the see the first units play into the third quarter (unless Haley does some BS limited playing time.) Haley needs to not get upset when other teams run the score up, just prepare the team better.
