Video - On the 2008 campaign trail, Obama blames Bush for adding $4 trillion to the national debt, calling it 'irresponsible and unpatriotic' - July 3, 2008 - Runs 40 seconds

* "The problem is, is that the way Bush has done it over the last eight years is to take out a credit card from the Bank of China in the name of our children, driving up our national debt from $5 trillion for the first 42 presidents - #43 added $4 trillion by his lonesome, so that we now have over $9 trillion of debt that we are going to have to pay back -- $30,000 for every man, woman and child. That's irresponsible. It's unpatriotic."

The problem for Obama is the following (from CBS News):

Obama has already added over $4 trillion to the national debt in only 2 1/2 years, or exactly 945 days.

* "The debt was $10.626 trillion on the day Obama took office. The latest calculation from Treasury shows the debt has now hit $14.639 trillion. It's the most rapid increase in the debt under any U.S. president. The national debt increased $4.9 trillion during the eight-year presidency of George W. Bush."

Bush forced Obama to take it to the next level. Clearly Obama did not want to but Bush forced him to with special powers.

Bush did it for war and hate, Obama did it for love and hope.

...it reminds me of a guy who marries a woman and then blames his problems with his new stepson on the ex.

You'd think this guy had never heard of the Internet the way he contradicts himself....

To put it into perspective, in the year before Obama took office the CBO's long-term projections show the US government spending reaching the levels we are currently at in 2034.

The 10-year forecast prepared in:

2005 showed the deficit in 2011 to be 6.4 trillion
2007 showed the deficit in 2011 to be 6.3 trillion
2009 showed the deficit in 2011 to be 9.8 trillion

Of course we know (unless we're a Dem running for Anthony Weiner's congressional seat) the debt is now at $14.7 trillion.

And if you want to believe the CBO, they're now projecting the debt to be $17.4 trillion in 2020 (up from $15 trillion in last year's estimates). Who wants to bet the CBO numbers portray the debt wrong again?
