So, what is going on here? Why is 72/70 so prevalent in religion and myth? Well, most religions regarded the sky, especially the night sky, as "Heaven". And all the constellations, planets, sun and moon were gods or "helpers" of the gods. The "science" for studying the heavens in this time was astrology. The sky was divided into 12 houses, each representing 30 degrees of the circle. The rotation of the Zodiac is what is known as the "Great Year".
