Nike has sparked rumors that it may unveil the self-tying "Nike Air Mag" shoe. originally featured in the Back to the Future movies, at an event in Los Angeles Thursday night.

Based on a promotional video (attached below) entitled "McFly's Closet", and posted by a "DocEmmettBrown88," hype for the self-tying novelty show has ramped up. The video, of course, shows row upon row of futuristic shoes, with Back to the Future themed music playing in the background.
Marty McFly: This is uh... This is heavy duty, Doc. This is great. Uh, does it run, like, on regular unleaded gasoline? Dr. Emmett Brown: Unfortunately no, it requires something with a little more kick - plutonium.

As any child of the 80's remembers, the "Nike Air Mag" was a futuristic prop that was sold in 2015, part of the setting for Back to the Future Part II. The second part of the trilogy, starring Michael J. Fox. as Marty McFly and Christopher Lloyd as Dr. Emmett Brown, involved visiting the future to save the future children of McFly and his future wife, Jennifer. What they failed to realize, of course, is that McFly's rival Biff, had witnessed their disappearance, subsequently stole the time machine, and well, hijinks ensued.

The 2015 of the future was full of historical in-jokes and anachronisms, including a hoverboard, the Cubs beating Miami in the World Series (the Florida Marlins came into being in 1993) and a Ayatollah Khomeini video waiter offering a "hostage special" inside an 80s themed cafe.

Nike did not respond to a request for comment. But the shoe company flew the editor of NiceKicks.com out to Los Angeles on short notice. In 2009, Nike also patented the self-lacing design.
"The automatic lacing system provides a set of straps that can be automatically opened and closed to switch between a loosened and tightened position of the upper," the patent reads. "The article further includes an automatic ankle cinching system that is configured to automatically adjust an ankle portion of the upper."

In the movie, McFly simply puts his feet into the shows and they self-tie themselves. "Power laces!" he exclaims. "All right!"

We'll have to see what transpires tonight. Stay tuned.

Still that is a great cause. Genius marketing. Props to Nike for stepping up for the cause. Did he say only 150 pairs. If so they are going to go for some big $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

That's a win win for everyone involved. It's great to see all of that come together. And I hope it can raise A LOT of money. If I had the cabbage, I would defiantly try to get a pair.

I would hope they would donate it. It is good publicity for them. But who knows in these greedy times.
