Well, that's who Pioli feels is right for the job, and we all know we can't argue against anything he does because he's a GM and we're not.

So it's time for them to step up.

While I agree that our safety depth is less than stellar, the pass rush sure didn't help them out yesterday. You give a QB in this league all day to pick out targets and throw, and he'll beat even the best DB's.

I would hope that it wasn't torn on the first play that he went down because that would make our trainer look mildly retarded.

They can usually tell when it's torn.

I'm guessing that he sprained it and that lead to the instability that eventually caused it to pop.

I had a similar injury a handful of years ago. Twisted it, felt fine, kept playing, torn it up.

If Stanzi does really look like he has potential then we can might be able to get a 1st rd pick from some crappy team. That pick ends up to be a top 5 pick and we get another franchise type player.

You don't keep a franchise type QB as a backup.

Draft Luck
trade Cassel
sign a veteran QB to teach in FA
develop/feature Stanzi in preseason

If/when Stanzi looks like a stud we strike while the iron is hot and do what Philly did with Kolb.

Don't be a moron, other people in the league have a better opinion about Cassel than the dumbass fucks around here. Lots of teams can enjoy success with a game manager type quarterback. You need a have an OC/HC that knows what the fuck their doing though.

Cassel is what he is ... a game manager type quarterback who is ranked around 10-15th in the league.

I can see us getting a 3rd rd pick in trade for Cassel if we trade on the upswing.

That sucks. It's a bitch of a recuperation. I hope it doesn't effect his entire career.

Yup.

There aren't a lot of 'career altering' injuries anymore these days, but the ACL is one of them.

We couldn't have had worse news. I'd rather see "Charles out with ACL" than Berry. Charles is a RB with a 3-4 year shelf life anyway - Berry could be a superstar for a decade+ like Ed Reed.

This is just a disaster.

(But for the record - Johnson's hit was legal. Bowe's done it, as have other Chiefs. It was part of the game. Maybe avoiding contact for the entire pre-season was a bad !@#$ing idea afterall).

Has there been any safeties with ACL tears that have come back to play at the same level?

Count Zarth
09-12-2011, 01:05 PM
Yes, becasue Eric Berry is an 8 year old child, incapable of making adult decisions about his own health and perhaps saying, "No, I think I'm alright. I'm going out for another play and see how it feels."

Actually there are a lot of examples of training staffs restricting a player from going back into the game.

A good training staff would have kept him on the sidelines.

doesn't matter, all you need is a team that is willing to trade. They don't have to be right or know shit ... only be willing to part with a draft pick.

The real issue is OC/HC. I'm not sure they know how to put together an offense that would make any QB look good.

IF we do draft Luck i would hope to hell that we would also get a quality offensive coordinator to work with him. I want no part of Haley and a young QBoTF.

In all honesty though, living in Wisconsin gives me quite a bit of exposure to the Packers and seeing how that organization is run compared to the Chiefs shows me just how far the Chiefs have to go still.

Ted Thompson became the Packers GM in 2005 and did things his own way right from the start. Fans HATED him. Couldn't understand why they didn't sign any free agents, questioned his draft picks, etc. It really wasn't until last year's Super Bowl run, IMO, that he finally got the respect he deserved.

We all know the story on the Packers injuries last year...16 players on IR, 6 of them starters. Obviously Rodgers is key for them, but even he missed a start last year and Flynn almost beat the Pats in relief.

It just highlights the fact that they've got good talent, good talent evaluators, and good coaching (from the head coach on down).

Maybe Pioli (and Haley?) need more time, but after seeing the Packers last year and what they did, it's going to be depressing if losing one player, as good as Berry is, can totally tank whatever hopes we had left for a good season. Just makes me even more envious of the Packers organization.

I bet after this year, cut blocks will be almost totally illegal in any way shape or form.

Any grey area will be eliminated.

There's been an outcry over this for years.

Players HATE the cut block. When they did all the concussion crap last season, most guys came out furious that the NFL was focusing on that instead of the cut blocks that can ruin careers. I remember a couple of players saying that the concussion crackdown would be worse for players because defenders would go low to avoid the hit and hurt their knees. To a man, those players said they'd rather get their blocks knocked off than have low shots.

But the NFL did nothing to address it.

The fact is that the cut block is legal right now and it is legal in most forms. There was nothing illegal about the hit Johnson put on Berry.

Bullshit? Against the unwritten code? Yeah, probably both of those - but not illegal.

This was why I knew ownership would ultimately 'win' this lockout - these players don't respect each other. Look at the late hits and guys jumping on piles. Look at unnecessary bullshit like that play. These players do not for one minute give a damn about the guys they're playing with. When it all comes down to it, they have no professional respect for the guys that go out there and put their bodies on the lines alongside them.

In that environment, of course they would start eating their own.

100%?

50/50

Seriously fellas - this is a no-bullshit injury.

If we get both Moeaki and Berry at 90% of what they once were, we should count ourselves lucky.

But again - that club med offseason really seems to have us geared up for contact, doesn't it?

What a ****ing disaster.

Agree. if we would of taken preseason seriously, we wouldnt have to worry about cheap shots taking out players...
Cause taking preseason seriously prevents injuries...

I tried to methematically measure the downgrade in coverage from Eric Berry to Sabby Piscitelli, but my Excel melted at the thought.

Sorry that shit happened to you guys, hope that Berry going back into the game didn't make his injury worse.

Well, dang... that is pretty noble of you...even if you don't meant it. ;)

Seriously...stuff happens. Chiefs will just have to overcome. I doubt they will. I think they will struggle, but they need a few more good drafts and the value of next years draft picks will be incredible.

I would love to see Luck come to KC, but even if they miss out on the #1 pick, they can trade a top 10 pick for an incredible amount.

That hit happens several times a week. They're not always that far out in the open, but guys take shots to their knees that impactful in literally every game. And guess what? They don't blow out.

Siler's knee went out when someone jumped on a pile. Moeaki's was non-contact.

Something is untowards about the number of ACL injuries this team has.

And remember the old coach's speak: You're the hammer or you're the nail. When you play at 1/2 speed, that's when you get hurt.

It's absolutely correct. Maybe if Berry is coming out there off an intense camp and more ready to play, he's a step faster and clear of Johnson. All I know is that the Chiefs have been outgunned in both effort and physicality in every game they've played this season and they've had 3 season-ending ACL injuries.

That's a problem to me. You folks were going to chirp about how right Haley was w/ his bullshit offseason had the Chiefs been healthy - well it's only fair that you own it when they appear to be among the most injury prone teams in the league. Haley fucked up.

What, all TWO?

It's just bad luck. Moeaki came in after recovering from knee cleanup (IIRC), got tackled awkwardly while running full speed and that's that.

Berry was victim of a cheapshot.

I do agree that the lack of preparation contributed towards both sides of the ball looking like a fucking mess, but to blame the ACLs on Haley's strategy is going too far.

Maybe we can have one of those San Antionio Spurs type of fortunes fall in our laps for a change. Spurs were pretty good. Had a few key players go down on what was a payoff team. Got in the NBA lottery, and wound up with Tim Duncan. Everybody gets healthy. Spurs dominate for years.

I could live with that.

Actually there are a lot of examples of training staffs restricting a player from going back into the game.

A good training staff would have kept him on the sidelines.
So, if he tells the training staff to get stuffed and that he's going back out there, they are supposed to do, ... what?

Gang tackle him and super glue him to the bench? Tie his laces together?

You're perception of "text book" situations and "reality" is a bit skewed.

Trainer has someone take his helmet away and that's the end of it is generally how it works.

This very well could be the most disappointing season for me ever.....I was really hoping we would make some progress like last season....finish decently....and be ready to make a real run by next season.

What a heart break....

I'm sorry you guys....i want to hug everyone...

Oh well at least I can actually get some yard / house work done on Sundays.

I suppose we can hold out some hope to be able to see progress in some areas but it is going to be rough to see through it all and actually assess improvements when we are probably going to be so bad.

On the other hand if we CAN pull through this and still show we are a solid team, it could be massive for everyone on this team who sticks together and plays hard.

GO CHIEFS!

I'm blaming Haley's pre-season plan for this team coming out flat and unprepared.

And I know that a ton of injuries come from being flat and unprepared. I know the team looked like it was fucking a football all day, including the opening kickoff that necessitated Eric Berry even being on that field at that moment. I know that Berry didn't exactly have his head on a swivel there (tunnel-vision on the ballcarrier) and that his movements right before Johnson went low on him were less than fluid (looked like he was trying to brake but not sure if he wanted to).

I know that a lot of things had to fall together to make that injury happen and a lot them could have been avoided by crisper execution.

The transitive property doesn't lie.

Is Haley directly responsible for it? No, of course not - but do you think Berry goes down for the year if the Chiefs come out firing on all cylinders? I don't, not for a minute. Shit like that happens to bad football teams that are trying to feel their way through a game.

Honestly?

They take your helmet.

I've seen it done a bunch of times. The training staff will simply not give you your hat.

Besides - if they tell him that he's not going out there, do you really think he's just going to stand in the huddle as the 12th guy? Give me a break; they didn't need to hogtie him, they just tell him he's not playing and send someone else out to the huddle.

The Chiefs shouldn't have sent Berry back out there if they suspected an ACL injury.

Horrific. Absolutely horrific news.

I am rapidly sinking into a dark and dismal depression as the after-effects of Monday's ass-kicking continue to drag me down into the vortex of despair.

Losing our (arguably) best young player and 1st round pick to an ACL injury is about as bad as it gets. I don't think there are enough oatmeal cookies in the world to make this better.

I don't blame Haley, though ... not for the injuries. They happen. We were pretty fortunate last year but we must have pissed off the football gods again by trying to get better when we should know damn well that they decreed long ago that the Chiefs are supposed to suck for ever and all time.

This is one of those days where I wish I had never heard of the Chiefs. There's far too much disappointment associated with being a fan of this team.

According to NFL.com, Berry didn't tear his ACL on the Stevie Johnson play AT ALL. It happened on a completely different play. Stevie didn't do it, so stop with the controversial block crap.

I can't post links, so you'll have to copy and paste.

So we're going to go with gross incompetence instead of recklessness?

Seriously - a strained ACL is pretty easy to figure out. Is there instability in the joint? Even if Berry lies - you can manipulate a knee to figure that out.

It was a failure by the staff. Did it make a difference? Who the hell knows - maybe it was already blown. But it was still pretty ridiculous.
