There's no other explanation for it. He is playing Michael in almost every movie he does these days from Willy Wonka to Alice in Wonderland and now he plays Barnabus Collins as the pigment challenged rock star.

I think the explanation for it is that he keeps working with Tim Burton, and Tim's artistic vision is never without a pale faced white guy... honestly, does Burton ever use any people of color in his films (excluding people that are different hues of the rainbow like the tiny shit in Wonka)?

I'm waiting for the day when Tim Burton escapes his Goth phase.

If he waits long enough goth may be 'in' again (though that is probably against all things goth).

I'm awaiting the day he does something original again. I think 'Mars Attacks' was his last decent film.

Big Fish was a great movie. I think it's his best.

Sweeny Todd was a VERY well made movie.

Been bothered by Depp ever since he said that shit about not wanting his kids to grow up in this country yet continues the contradiction by continuing to use us to make money. So how is he different? That and his co-star always ends up being Burton's wife.

By far. His best.

By far. His best.

Agreed.

It's simply on another level compared to his other films. It's a visually stunning film with an original premise and wonderful characters. It resonated with me for days after viewing.

I had to fight back the tears at the end of the film, and I haven't teared up at a movie since Optimus Prime died in the old transformers animated movie. I was just a kid and that was totally sad. LMAO

When I even think of the movie, I tear up. The odd thing is, my dad was dying of cancer at the time I first saw it. My dad always told us tall tales as we were kids. It's just a movie that will always mean a lot to me.

Dark Shadows looks horrible. That being said, I'll refrain from passing judgement. Usually Depp is pretty interesting. This does look like it's jumped the shark, though. A little too campy.

Ugh.... I know. I loved the early 90's version of the television show.... I can't imagine it as a comedy. Dumb-dumb-dumb-dumb-dumb.

I just saw this trailer yesterday morning in work while test-running "Jeff Who Lives At Home". At first, like you all, I said, "Holy shit, they made it a stupid-looking comedy, what a misstep." But then I thought about it. Maybe this is Burton's "Beetlejuice"-esque shot across the bow at all the sparkly-vampire films that have cropped up in Hollywood. When you get down to it, a serious, scary version of "Dark Shadows" probably would make a bit of money with older fans of the TV show, but Burton would never make it a true horror film to please late teens and early 20s horror fans (not to mention true horror films just don't make that much money). If he did it right, and it has just enough of a weird vibe, it'll please Burton fans as well as Depp fans and maybe finally get the pair back on track after the artistic flops of "Alice" and "Charlie". (Although, I should point out in fairness, that those "flops" made some money, as "Alice" grossed $1B worldwide and is the 9th-highest film of all time, despite being a piece of crap, and "Charlie" made half of that, grossing around $500M worldwide.)

I'm a HUGE Deep fan, but this looks like ass.

I'll probably still watch it when it comes to redbox though,

well that's kinda stupid, why would he want to raise his kids in this country?
