Yes this is a fantasy football question.

The NFL has ruled that this was a reception by Hakeem Nicks. This obviously changes the scoring for Nicks in a FF league and it has reversed the outcome of a game. Now I've got the owner of the (now) losing team complaining that this wasn't a catch because the Giants accepted the penalty.

Should I overturn the stat adjustment and keep the score the way it originally was? Or the does the NFL ruling trump all?

So the question is....do you change the stat correction back to where it was and leave the outcome of the game how it was in the beginning?

You leave it alone, sadly...doesnt count as a reception or yardage for the receiver

edit: you could if you had the right software / website give some amount of points to a receiver who draws a PI penalty, but this would need to be done before draft day preferably or before week 1 for sure...too late to add this now, but something to consider next year if your league wants it. But you wouldnt add yards or a reception IMO, you would add like 'drawn PI penalty = x amount of points ' or similar....You could make it dependant on the yardage, but you still would NEVER add the yards back...or the reception.

Changed back automatically? They all update statistics based off of the stat changes from the NFL. Normally this shit doesn't matter....but it changed the outcome of a game.

Now I have one guy who is all butt hurt and claiming that he wants his money back.

Well, his official stats are 4 receptions, 38 yards, One TD, 0 rushing yards....I don't see how he*could argue his position unless the RT stats are different from that.

Dicky McElephant

Nope....the stats on the website state that he Nicks has 4 receptions for 38 yards. He's saying that we have the power to overturn it because it shouldn't be a catch.

Pawnmower
09-22-2011, 05:12 PM
On a second look, one reason they may have taken a penalty is because he was close to being out of bounds....so they made sure they got the 1st instead of having the chance he was still juggling the ball as he stepped out....

Thats the only reason I can think of for taking the penalty there.

That's my thoughts. I still have no fucking clue why the NFL would come in and give Nicks the catch if there was a penalty accepted. There's no point to it...

The Giants declined the penalty, which is why Nicks was given a reception and an additional 23 yards.

Teams can do this shit after a game?

New York Giants’ Eli Manning, Hakeem Nicks Credited with 23-Yard Pass & Catch
September 21st, 2011 at 7:17 PM
By Dan Benton

St. Louis Rams Bradley Fletcher defends New York Giants Hakeem Nicks who tries to make a one handed catch yards in the first quarter in week 2 of the NFL season at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey on September 19, 2011. UPI /John Angelillo

John Angelillo/UPI/FotoglifNew York Giants wide receiver Hakeem Nicks now has 11 receptions for 160 yards on the season after the NFL credited him with a 23-yard catch that was initially ruled incomplete on Monday night.

The play came on the Giants' first touchdown drive of the game, as Nicks hauled in an incredibly impressive one-handed grab while being interfered with by St. Louis Rams cornerback Bradley Fletcher. Initially, referees ruled the pass incomplete but assessed the 23-yard penalty on the Rams for pass interference, but after watching the tape, the NFL ruled the pass it complete. They gave Big Blue the choice to accept the penalty (as they had originally) or decline it, giving Nicks credit for the reception. Obviously the Giants chose the latter.
This alteration changes Nicks' stat line for Monday night to four receptions for 38 yards and a touchdown. As noted above, it also changes his season stat line to 11 receptions for 160 yards and a touchdown. He will also be credited with a first down, bringing his season total to seven.

In addition to Nicks, this also changes Eli Manning's numbers for both the game and the season. He is now credited with completing 19 of 30 passes (63.33%) for 223 yards, two touchdowns and one interception against the Rams, and completing 37 of 62 passes (60.66) for 491 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions on the season. Like Nicks, he also gets credit for an additional first down and raises his average yards per pass from 7.67 to 7.92 on the year.

If you had either or both players on your respective fantasy teams, you should also be seeing additional credit based on your scoring settings.

If it were me, I would stick with what ever the official stats say. If the official stats say it is a catch, it is a catch, if the official stats say it is no catch, no catch. I don't really understand the debate. If done on pen and paper, without internet and all this technology, I would imagine that is the way it would be done. I don't play fantasy football, but from my understand it is just an accumulation of stats.

this isn't even a question...

the NFL ruled Nicks' catch a catch...it's a catch....even ESPN says fantasy football scores aren't official until THURSDAY.

Last year the NFL ruled in week 15 Mendenhall only had 99 yards rather than 100 and it changed the outcome of the game that led to the eventual champion winning it all...

They make all changes on THURSDAY...which is why ESPN says wins/losses in FFL are unofficial until Thursday.

My team is currently:

QB: Roethlisberger, Cutler, Henne
RB: F. Jones, B. Jacobs, D. Williams, M. Barber
WR: V. Jackson, B. Marshall, L. Moore, D. Moore, J. Ford
TE: V. Davis, L. Kendricks

I'd be really low on RBs. There really isn't a whole lot to pick up. I could trade for a different RB.

The question is why the **** did the Giants accept the penalty if it was a catch?

because why in God's name would they challenge the call when the alternative is the ball is at the same spot because of PI...

this was MNF...were you guys not watching this game?

I had Nicks and was annoyed that he didn't get the catch at the time but knew there was no reason to challenge the play.

they declined the penalty the day after when given the option after the NFL reviewed the game tape. they accepted the penalty during the actual game.

that being said, you always have to go with the final NFL stats for FF purposes.
