Bowe's day today is an encapsulation of why he can be so maddening. He can make the most difficult catches I've ever seen a WR haul in and then muff such gimmes. You see him make catches like that and you wonder how he ever drops a ball. He really should be Michael Irvin without the coke problem.

Clark had a big case of the dropsies today like 3 of them all fairly easy catches. that shit happens. Bowe just done it twice when it mattered, but his catches today while it may not have mattered to use. They are fighting for their division lives right now.

Bowe is so frustrating at times, but the guy is a special talent now at this point in his career. He'll make mistakes at times, but he's worth having on the team because when he's on, he's unstoppable.

That catch along the sideline, and him fighting, and stretching out for the first down was just awesome to see him do. He didn't used to do things like that. He's a complete player now.

Yeah, all WRs drop passes, but Bowe has had a ton of drops relative to his number of catches. The guy is an absolute physical marvel at times and has been since his rookie year. Of the 10 best catches I've seen a Chiefs player make, he probably has about half of them. It's amazing that he can show such otherworldly body control and then have games like he did against Buffalo.

I think people forget that he did. He's been doing ridiculous shit since that SD game in 2007. He still had a number of awe-inspiring plays even in 2009. I don't know if there is a bigger gap between good and bad than any player in the NFL, because when he is on, he's the best YAC guy in the game.

I definitely heard him say that too. I was like wtf when he said it but then i started thinking, we do seem to convert a disproportionate number of 3rd and longs. At least we do something alright.... Mostly because of Bowe beasting for YAC. God knows it isnt because Cassel is throwing it 10 yards downfield

That and any normal team throws on 3rd down but our approach involves the conservative run in that situation. I credit Charlie Weiss for putting in a lot of those well-designed off tackle draws last year and we decided to keep them in the playbook. I dont know if i can describe them on here adequately but I don't see anyone else running/blocking them like we have over the past 2 years. Its a really unique style of run play that was great for getting Charles in space.

While he hasn't shown anything about how he would handle Cassel, especially in the way we want, he has shown he locks up our talent. With all the stress involved with this team, I am not worrying about Bowe. Contract or he is getting tagged.

I view Bowe as a franchise tag holdout type. I hope I'm wrong if that's what we do. He drops so many balls then makes the most insane plays ever. I wish he was a bit more consistent.

I have seen less and less drops. Atleast I think so unless I am ignoring them more because of his great play. You give him a solid QB, and he would be a monster. Breaston and eventually Baldwin are only going to make him better.

He made a sick catch today, and the catch he had in SD as well as in GB during the preseason are just out of control good.

No way we could get the #1 for that little. I love D Bowe, but look at all the receivers that Brady and Manning have made look great over the years. If Luck really is that caliber, we should be able to plug Colbert/Copper/Whoever on the other side of Baldwin and we should be better than we are today. It will take multiple (maybe 3) firsts and possibly some players, and a team sitting there that is willing to trade for that to happen.

I don't see a trade happening unless it is a couple teams sitting there at #1, and it will be a king's ransom.

That becomes a much tougher decision, but I might look at last night's box score and see that GB rushed 20 times for 57 yards, and beat none other than the Falcons, on the road.

So it's not like I wouldn't EVER EVEN THINK ABOUT trading Charles, like a lot of fans would. I would think about whether or not we can get by with what we have for a year or so, then see who we can get, either through draft or FA. If there is someone who we like available at a later date trading Charles would be a possibility.

Luck's contract might not be a cap killer, and since we have so much room, we could probably get the best FA running back available, or try to get one in the draft, so it's definitely on the table.

Dr. Gigglepants
10-10-2011, 08:24 AM
I would go multiple "Ditka" at this point. With our current team all we need is a QB, we are getting young too, missing a couple complete drafts wouldn't kill us as long as Pioli does better in free agency than he has lately.

It's hard to quantify, but you can catch a football with one hand, not easily, but it can be done if you are able to cup the ball just right. Bowe's was more difficult to me because of the way he had to drape himself around the defender, tap it with one hand, and hop on one leg to stay in bounds.

They were both awesome...I just remember watching Cassel throw that ball to Moeaki thinking he threw it 10 yards out of the end zone only to see a fully extended Moeaki bring it in with 1 hand like it was no big deal...

This.

Especially when you consider how shitty the throw was.

Let's see. Bowe goes 6-2, 220 or so.

Lacey goes 5-10, 180.

That ball has to be UP. Let Bowe use his height advantage and body to make the grab.

The qb has to know that, when the receiver runs the route Bowe did at the goal line, that ball has to a. go out of bounds or b. the receiver has to catch it above his head. Either that or throw it back shoulder and let the corner run by Bowe. It was and underthrown ball that was helped by an incredible catch.

I dunno. Kind of tough to decide. You also must consider that Moeaki must have studied quite a bit of tape on Cassel and knows his love for the field goal post. That ball was destined for the field goal cross bar at a high rate of speed. The timing to haul that in, one-handed, without falling out of the back of the end-zone is pretty impressive. I love how that catch is on the commercial for NFL Rewind.

I really can't make a judgement call on which was better.

I think Bowe's ball was easier to catch than moeaki because when I am diving into a pool I can sometimes keep batting it up to myself and make the catch, No way could I run full speed and hall one in one handed. Because 1, he's a receiver. 2, he's not top 5 and he's most likely going to be franchised because he's a UFA and the Chiefs cant afford to lose him. 3, he's talking about a first round, second round, and third round pick for a not top 5 receiver. Well, I first of all, you've got the QB factor. Second, Bowe compares VERY favorably to guys like White. Actually, in two fewer years, Bowe has only 4 less TD catches, and averages slightly more ypr, with a QB who couldn't lead a receiver to save his life.

Roddy White doesn't compare to Bowe at all. Bowe is a big possession receiver. White is a 6' 4.4 speed receiver. Of course Bowe is going to be getting more TD's.

10-15 probably, if I really wanted to dig that deep. Welker is good after the catch because he receives the ball in space but I don't consider him a great receiver.

Calvin, Andre, Fitz, Jennings, White, Wayne. And that Loyd (Sp?) kid from Denver is right there with Bowe imo. That dude makes a shit ton of ridiculous catches with someone as equally as bad, if not worse, than Cassel throwing him the ball.

I have a wacky idea. Why not build up Cassel and make him look good. Then put him, Battle and the #1 pick this year and a #2 next year to get the real number 1 pick to get Luck?

Buy low and Sell high. You just have to inflate Cassels and Battles numbers enough to make it enticing to whomever has the number 1 pick. Lets say it is Seattle, They get Cassel who is a Pro Bowler and is safe with the ball and can manage games (hahaha) and then a running back he can hand the ball to that is able to get 100 yards per game in Battle. (if he doesn't fumble or just fall forward)

You get rid of two pieces of dead weight and maybe a pick or 2 and get your franchise QB in Luck with the number 1 Pick.

You don't have to get rid of your good players in Bowe or Charles or any of them. You just have to convince someone that the players that they are getting have turned a corner in their careers and are ready to shine NOW. They don't have to wait to see if a QB busts

You going to put Battle in Charles' uniform? Its the only way we'd ever be able to get anything for him. Last weekend was a fluke against a terrible D. I'd be surprised to see him do that against anyone else, really.

Well they just lost Nick Collins for the season, so if we can give them one of our safeties, that should even it up right?

So Thomas Jones, Stanzi, 4th round draft pick, and a safety.

Would that work?

Yeah, but they hit their receivers in stride. IMO, that is the real difference in what we did Sunday compared to the normal shit we watch. For whatever reason (who the fuck knows why) Cassel was able to hit the receivers in stride and then they could make plays. Most of the times, the WR has to fucking stop, go get the ball and THEN try to make a play.

I still counted two slants thrown behind Bowe.

Sometimes, when we get a first down via the pass, it's easy to get so excited, you tend not to notice the details of the play. For example, people on this board have stated that the throw to Bowe (the acrobatic catch one) was a good pass. I say, only if you were looking for PI. The throw should have been high to allow Bowe a chance at the ball. Cassel's getting bailed out by his receivers a lot ... just like last year.

I remember one fairly good slant to Bowe. The pass was pretty good ... just a little behind, but that's nitpicking.

I remain convinced that Cassel's accuracy is just ... inconsistent. That makes our WRs performances all the more impressive, in my mind.

I agree on that pass. However, I think it's ridiculous to nit-pit Cassel this week. I don't care how they get it done, overcoming a 17 point deficit is HUGE for this team. They usually can't come back from 3 down.

Than that's your short sightedness. I'm not a fan of high draft picks that fail, and am cautious of taking a first round QB named anyone. I'll always be hopeful they we get a QB drafted anyplace that can play up to any potential and beyond.
