Kansas City Chiefs QB Matt Cassel was on Around The League with Fran Charles on NFL Network yesterday talking about the 2-3 Chiefs.

Nothing earth shattering in the interview as the usual stuff was hit on: questions about the win at Indy, Dwayne Bowe's play and, of course, the "argument" with Todd Haley (or, as I like to call it, the story that will never die). Cassel also claims he's undefeated in bags, the game they play in the locker room.

Below are some highlights of what he said. View the video here.

Star-divide
On the comeback win at Indy: "It was something that, since I've been here, we haven't responded the way that we did, and to come back from a 17-point deficit, and to continue to grind and overcome the adversity, and walk out of Indy with a win, it was big for this time."

On Dwayne Bowe: "I trust him and we also have other guys making plays as well. Steve Breaston's come in and complemented Dwayne really well this year. It's great to have that tandem."

On the slow start: "We were trying to find the reasons for why we didn't start the way we didn't want to. Going into the season, we thought we were ready to go and it just didn't work out."

More on the slow start: "One of the main problems early on were turnovers. We were able to eliminate turnovers and you see the result, we're in every game."

On the injuries: "That's the same way that I got my start when Tom Brady went down and things went the way that it did. Nobody gave us a chance in New England and I was able to step up and prove myself."

On the bags game: "I'm pretty good, I'm not gonna lie. I haven't lost yet. I keep giving the receivers chances, letting them get up early, and then I come back and dominate."

Literally the worst thing that could happen to our team is for Cassel to imitate a serviceable QB for the rest of the season. So of course that's what's going to happen.

Yep. He's the worse kind of QB for us.

Give us an A or an F Matt.

We don't need you hanging around here for 4 more years of C quality QBing.

As much as I hate him and as much as we know he stinks and is beating up on the bottom feeders, we don't need him hanging round the middle of the league in TQBR.

I just don't want any doubt in mgmt's mind that he needs to be gone after this year.

This.

The guy has a knack for beating bad teams. He gives you just enough to believe he's adequate.

The question is whether or not Pioli will settle for an adequate QB?

Will Pioli blame Cassel's inadequacies in big games on his surrounding talent?

Cassel's absolute ceiling for a tough game or playoff game is probably a D+. For a game against a shitty team we're supposed to beat it's probably a solid B.

if he can carve up the Raiders defense week after next i might cut him some slack..
this win was against a lame beat up pass defense in Indy.

No doubt, and this is one time where it is nice to be in B1G country.

Most of them know him from raping their school's team at one time or another.

He commands a lot of respect around here. Now, if they would just set Cassel and let him play. Hopefully that is coming soon.

I hear ya, and there is a lot of disagreement on that subject.

Do they sour on the bench, or do they learn? Lots of examples of both.

Do they get damaged being thrown in the fire right away, or do they learn?

Lots of examples of both. I personally can't wait, and think he has sat long enough. :D

WTF is he going to learn from Cassel? How to shit your pants? How to check down prior to looking at your reads? How to stare down your primary receiver? How to hold the ball too long prior to going fetal?

I know, it is not just Cassel he is learning from, but he is the one setting the example.

ya.
he's heads and shoulders above Cassel IMO.
I haven't seen him play much, but what I did see was a guy with natural talent and pocket awareness that Cassel doesn't have.

BossChief

absolutely

In less than one full game (combined) of action, he has shown far more in every single category a passer is responsible for than Cassel has in 3 1/2 seasons as a starter.

The preseason "plan" was a bad one... The end.

What is the worst possible outcome that could happen for this franchise? Cassel plays at that mediocre level with the injury excuse which will entrench him for another year.

What always happens to this franchise? The worst possible outcome.

Thus, what will happen with Cassel?

It's a pretty clear logical syllogism.

Is Herm gonna come back and coach???

Herm at least brought forth the prospect of the organization bottoming out, getting fired, and bringing in young talent.

Hell, 90% of the worthwhile talent we have on this team is because of Herm. Herm was hitting rock bottom. This regime has been a series of trips to rehab ended after two days because you can't kick the smack (Cassel) and you keep believing that a 12 step program (The Patriot Way) will plug and fix your problems.

.... and that talent is still here and progressing...that's on the Chiefs.

The game was invented in the Midwest. A small burlap bag is filled with hard feed corn. The object is to get the corn-filled bag into the hole. Thus you get cornhole.

And I'm sure whoever came up with the name was laughing his ass off at the time.

I wish we could re settle cassels contract after this season and keep him as a backup, there are far worse backups and cassel actually knows the offense, but then again dink and dunk isnt hard to grasp

We might have the young talent because of Herm, but Herm could never bring out the best in the talent. How many players like DJ and Hali became much better players after getting away from Herm?

I'm kinda lost where this season is headed. If we get a new coach what are we to expect? Who's gonna be retained? I kinda don't want it to happen because I feel the whole system to gain trust in the locker room, build the roster, will take another 5 years.

'Hamas' Jenkins

If Haley can't win, throw him in the gutter and go find another. A good coach doesn't take five years to win. What does Crennel really add to this coaching staff? What does anyone really add to this coaching staff?

Haley appears to be a good WR coach that was Peter Principled up to HC thanks to Kurt Warner, Fitzgerald, and Boldin. I'm sure he'd make an excellent WR coach somewhere else, but aside from that, I don't see a whole lot of keepers here.

Does it matter? This team is not infused with winning talent that can win in the playoffs. If you can't win in the playoffs, why not start over again?? Do you enjoy 7-9 in perpetuity?

Johnny Vegas

well if Haley is fired now then we're looking at maybe one more win this year. I don't think Haley is the problem. Its Cassel and he's Pioli's bitch who Haley can't dump. Who's the coach to pick? Its scraps. Nobody that would make a bigger difference than what Haley is doing already with Cassel at QB. One thing I don't like about Haley is he's a bridge burning motherfucker.

But can't do it after a couple wins. Check back in a couple weeks.

EVERYTHING goes back to the trade for Cassel

EVERYTHING

Its not just coincidence that when the team is winning, Cassel is playing like a slightly above average player and when we lose...he looks like what might possibly be the worst quarterback in the whole NFL.

To Pioli:

MAN THE FUCK UP AND ADMIT YOU MADE A MISTAKE ON THAT MOVE AND RECTIFY IT RATHER THAN FIRING THE HEAD COACH THAT HAS THE REST OF THE TEAM PLAYING VERY HARD FOR HIM AND IS HANDCUFFED TO A MISTAKE OF YOURS.

THATS WHAT YOU NEED TO DO IF YOU WANT TO FILL THOSE SEATS, PLAYA.
