View Full Version : Chiefs Coaching Preference?

Ok gang,
So I was observing some posts between two respected members earlier this season and there was a little bit of a debate happening about what kind of a coach they'd prefer, (if there was going to be a change in KC).

My question to you, oh wise and horny planeteers is this...

Which coach would you prefer to roam the sidelines for the next say, 5 years or so?

Coach A: A Norv-Bill Cowher-ottenheimer type of coach. One that has had a ton of experience, a few playoff wins and possibly a SB victory under his belt. He'll likely get this team on track fairly quickly but chances are, he won't hoist the Lombardi any time soon. This coach will bring us a playoff victory or two by 2015 and maybe, just maybe he'll get us to the big game.
He will be MR. Consistency.

Coach B: A John Gruden-wisenhutish type of cach. This coach is the up and commer in the NFL. We thought that's what we were getting with Haley, (and maybe we did) but it seems unlikely. This coach will be all or nothing. He will either get us a 14-2 year and a couple Super-Bowl births OR.... He will totally ruin this team, (See McDaniels) and we will be stuck rebuilding until footballs are made out of titanium and robots are roaming the field with fricken lasers.
He will be Mr. Flash-Pan

There's a poll coming for you to click on. That's right, Click on my poll. CLICK IT HARD!
My apologies if repost.

Coach A voters will be banned.

Hey now... There's almost an equal chance either way, (depending on how you look at it).

Personally, I miss the days of almost being good enough to make it...

I want a coach that attacks on both sides of the ball. A guy who will dictate the game to the opposition, not some read and react horseshit. Offense? Line up in 11 personnel and bang it down the field. Defense? A more blitz heavy attack, provided the corners can hold their own. Empose your will, and only let up when we're 4+ TD's ahead.

I voted to stick with Haley for the time being. I'd like to see him with a new QB to be honest.

Depends. Does he come with a recommendation letter from Bill Parcells?

When Haley was hired, he wasn't my first choice.

I really wanted to go after Jim Shwartz or Ron Rivera.

I did like the idea, and still do, of hiring a guy new to the position.

I'll suffer through the growing pains.

I think Haley is the type of coach, one that's not afraid of risk, that can win championships when he learns, and when he has all the important pieces in place.

So, I'll stick with Haley.

And just so know, I am not clicking your poll.

I never click on polls.

2X this.

I feel the exact same way. And Schwartz was my top choice as well.

Haley was my 2nd.

I don't care as long as it isn't "The Patriot Way" I realy thought the Clarks were gonna get a gm from the Pittsburg fold. The Patriots win because they have a great coach and QB the rest of the mystique is BS. The first thing our GM did was tie us to a crappy QB and unproven coach. How is that the Patriot way?

Last 10 super bowls

Mike McCarthy
Sean Payton
Mike Tomlin
Tom Coughlin
Tony Dungy
Bill Cowher
Bill Belichick
Jon Gruden
Brian Billick

Six coaches on their first team, three retreads.

The retreads had:

1. Historically dominant defense
2. Top 3 QB of all time
3. A Manning

Didn't poll closely enough. The OP said "if there's a change in KC" so I went with B. I would like to keep Haley, though.

I'm for whatever option would mean we bring in a new QB.

Yeah, I should've left out the Haley option.
I was curious to see how many wanted to keep Haley.

Certainly since we haven't won a SB since Haley got here he needs to go...........

A new GM? Cause Cassel is Pioli's boy.

I have no reason to believe that Haley wanted Cassel to begin with.

I think with Pioli it was more like, I'll get the guys I want, you can get a few guys you are familiar with, and you gotta coach up what I give you.

Well, in that case, you're stuck with Josh McDaniels.

We've beaten one team with a winning record since he got here.

And that team (the 09 Steelers) didn't even make the playoffs.

He needs to go.

Well i've been on record saying that Pioli and Haley should go. I thought the Patriot way was about no excuses but Pioli seems to come up with plenty of them.

That should read 4 retreads: Coughlin, Belichick, Gruden and Dungy. The retreads were also hungry because they hadn't won a ring yet and were still fairly young with the exception of Coughlin.

I think Haley could get the job done, I really do. Just not here, not with this overbearing GM, lackluster ownership and a backup QB as his #1.
Maybe collective heads will be pulled from their anus' but let's reflect a little...

The last time the Chiefs won a playoff game, I was a sophmore in HS. The following shit teams, (at the time) have won it all:
Colts
Bucks
Pats
Saints
Ravens (formerly Browns)
Rams

Teams like the cardinals, panthers, chargers bengals and jags have all faired better than the Chiefs during this time as well.
My point is, if you told me in 1993 that the Chiefs wouldn't even smell a playoff win well into my 30's, I would have laughed in your face and bet a large sum of money that you were wrong.

Fuck.

This seems to be the go-to excuse every time someone tries to criticize Haley.

Even Herm beat good teams with Huard.

You shut your whore mouth. The only way I want Dungy is if he brings Peyton Manning, circa 2006, with him.

Even Herm beat good teams with Huard.

In spite of Huard's limitations, he was pretty accurate on intermediate passes.

Cassel lacks that.

Herman fucking Edwards also won those games with Huard at QB with a veteran team.
