In Springfield, we had a local church leader open some land up as a temporary homeless camp until he can legally prepare an acre of land for such a purpose that is not in the middle of town. This temporary camp was located on property that is zoned for retail, thus making the camp illegal even though the occupants could only come on site after dark, could not cook or create fires, etc. The city council took the church leader, who owns the property, to court where it was decided that the tents he had set up had to go.

Fast forward less than two weeks. People set up campsites outside of the Best Buy store located in a strip mall starting Monday night (are the deals really that good?). Some people wrote into the local news stations posing the question of how these people could get away with "urban camping" on retail space whenever homeless people couldn't. As a result of these questions, those customers who had tents and such set up had to take them down yesterday. One kid they interviewed said he didn't see why they had to take their tents down whenever it was only temporary. Well, (1) the homeless camp was also temporary, and (2) it's the law.

I think it's funny. At least it's warm for this time of year. Has anyone else heard of any problems with people camping at Best Buys or the like?

They got stuck over-reacting to a situation following the letter of the law and had to do so again in an equally unimportant situation.

"equally unimportant situation". Not sure about that! There's never a good reason to camp outside of a store IMO...

I personally feel you should all camp outside of bestbuy every night and buy their goods every morning.

That is all.

Now I will use that new color printer I bought at best buy to print this out and hang it in my office.

If you're camping outside a store without a tent, aren't you just loitering?

You're not loitering anymore if they club you like a seal and move you along so paying customers can shop!

That's up to the store. Store management told people it was okay for them to be there as long as they weren't blocking others from getting in.

If you're camping outside a store without a tent, aren't you just loitering? What's the problem?

No, because those people intend to spend money inside the store.

No, because those people intend to spend money inside the store.

Loitering before or after a sale is still loitering.

But at the end of the day, it was a fucking joke.
