Haley will serve as guest analyst on ESPN show
Former Chiefs coach Todd Haley, fired on Monday after the team’s 37-10 loss to the New York Jets, will be a guest analyst tomorrow on the ESPN show “Audibles,” which will air from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. He’ll appear alongside regular analysts Keyshawn Johnson, Trent Dilfer and Jerry Rice.

An ESPN communications executive described the show as having a viewer-controlled format, allowing the analysts to answer questions.

Haley spent less than three seasons as Chiefs coach before being fired Monday.

Welcome to "Audibles" and we'd like to welcome in Todd Haley, former head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs here to provide his insight on just how magical it was to be in the aura of Tim Tebow.

So tell us, Todd, inquiring minds want to know...........did you happen to grab a Tim Tebow, sweat-drenched towel from the Broncos sideline a few weeks ago?

Thats show left me very concerned about the guy in charge of our football team.

You know, it's so funny.

If you spend enough time on this board, it screws with your viewpoint on things (as well as your overall headspace).

But, there are people in the Chiefsplanet community that are damaged. It's sad, but they have somewhat serious mental disorders that are very real. However, they can sit behind a keyboard and plunk out stuff that can affect a thoughtful or open-minded person's opinions. That's just the way it is.

Haley is not the enemy some people would like you to believe. Nor, is he some kind of hero. He is a guy who has worked hard, had some luck, and ultimately got a shot at a head coaching position. He couldn't work with the GM, and now he moves on ... as do we.

They were talking about whether the Jets have turned it around and would get the final AFC playoff spot. Todd basically said don't get excited, they weren't playing the Montana/Rice Niners last week. Said Sanchez just threw it to the running backs a lot and they didn't defend it.

Cool. Sounds like KC was well coached if the Jets' offensive approach was so simplistic.

The reaction to this is comical: Haley said some witty things! I knew he was a great coach!

Haley was a 1st-time head coach who basically owed his position to Pioli and Hunt.

Perhaps Romeo knows he's not on their short list and is auditioning solely for a position with another team?

Romeo is the anti Haley. He is a team guy. He doesn't have Haley's ego. He is mature, he gets the big picture. He understands that there will be disagreements and he doesn't hold a grudge.

I am not putting it all on Haley, but to act like it is ALL Pioli is ridiculous.

Toddler Haley was a petulant child. He had no business leading men. A good head coach is a consensus builder. A good head coach is able to bridge the gaps between people, not drive a wedge in them to make them wider.

If you think the same guy that got a 15 yard penalty on the sidelines is the level headed one in the Pioli/Haley relationship, then I think any logic will be pretty much lost on you.

The Pioli/Haley relationship didn't exist at that point. Haley was childish and ran the team into the ground at the end to piss Pioli off. Pioli was childish for leaking info and not having the balls to do his job and fire a coach that he didn't think was doing a good job.

I never said it was ALL Pioli. And I most certainly never said Haley was level-headed.

You description of Crennel belies your opinion of Haley. It's quite possible that Romeo is NONE of the things you say, it's just that he doesn't have any reason to keep selling Pioli's snake oil. He's 20 years Haley's senior, has been a HC in the league, and has multiple Super Bowl rings.

But I'm sure the more plausible explanation is that Pioli has no veil of secrecy at all, Romeo is a total gentleman, and Haley is just childish, right? Because it was Haley's policy to make sure all the blinds were closed and the media were locked in their room, unable to go to the bathroom.

Wow. I guess we will make up whatever stories we have to in order to make Pioli the villain.

We have one guy who dresses like a Hobo, insists on playing Palko, gets a 15 yard penalty on the sidelines, and is known for blowing up at players and coaches......

Yet, Pioli is the control freak that created the problem. And, now, less than a week later, Hunt sat down with Pioli and made him change it.

Don't you think that Clark could have just as easily sat down with Pioli over the last 2 and a half years while Haley was still the head coach?

Why wait until they fired Haley?

Heck, I don't know. Maybe you are right.

Heck, maybe all the illogical arguments that condem Pioli and make Haley out to be a victim are right. Maybe all the good draft picks were Haleys and the bad ones were Piolis, when he refused to listen to Haley.

I mean, all of that makes so much sense. I just don't see why I am having trouble buying into it.

Haley put the locks on the doors and Pioli allowed it. Haley made them close the blinds and Pioli just allowed it.

Do you realize how ridiculous that sounds?

Obviously, making Haley the scapegoat fooled a few people. Good work, Scott.

The Pioli/Haley relationship didn't exist at that point. Haley was childish and ran the team into the ground at the end to piss Pioli off. Pioli was childish for leaking info and not having the balls to do his job and fire a coach that he didn't think was doing a good job.

Here is the thing. I can see visible evidence that Haley was doing things to thumb his nose at Pioli. I can read about how Haley told reporters that he was thinking about resigning.

However, I can't see any direct evidence of Pioli leaking any information. Maybe it happened, but I can't see it happening.

Heck, Haley even took a shot at Crennel tonight when he talked about the Jets game. And, Crennel is the guy that didn't want to talk about being the interim head coach when Haley was still in place AND didn't trash Haley after he left.

If Pioli was 'leaking' information, don't you think he would have just come out and used those as reasons for letting Haley go? Pioli took the high road. The mature road. He even said that he, himself, needed to do a better job. He said it SIX times at the press conference.

Hale goes on audibles and takes shots at his former team and the local media. Yet, people on here think that Pioli has the ego problem.

Hey, Haley is a likeable guy. There are a ton of imature people that are, though.

We on the other hand see Pioli as the bigger issue and feel depressed.

I think the 'this sounds like a KC Media question' is pretty telling. I think he thought he was smarter than everyone at the press conference and was annoyed he had to answer questions from people he deemed to be inferior.

The guys he interacted with tonight were all guys in the business, in his mind, they are his peers.

I could be wrong.... but the whole image of Scott Controli just doesn't fit the way that Crennel has handled things so far.

Crennel is 65 years old. He's earned the right to basically say what the fuck he wants. He's NOT going to get shitcanned this year. If he somehow makes this team look good and win a few he may keep his job. Crennel has the credibility to be himself. Haley didnt. Haley is/ways a young Coach that has to do what his boss said. I dont blame him for that. This was all new to him. Crennel? not so much.

Heck, Haley even took a shot at Crennel tonight when he talked about the Jets game. And, Crennel is the guy that didn't want to talk about being the interim head coach when Haley was still in place AND didn't trash Haley after he left.

Romeo took SEVERAL indirect shots at Haley. The comments about the players getting ready for the game instead of wondering about who was going to start. Changing the weight lifting schedule. Those were ALL shots at Haley, every single comment.

A little misguided. I said he was better than he was given credit for. I don't consider him an elite coach, but he wasn't as bad as people on here said he was.

He had certain mannerisms that made people on here get annoyed by him.

Oddly, the defenders of Haley talk about lack of talent. Yet, Herm had even less talent. Herm took over an old team and completely tore it down and was rebuilding it.

Haley was handed a better QB than Herm had.... and a bunch of young ascending talent.

People gripe about the Chiefs not developing a young QB. Yet, Herm was moving that direction. He was trying to develop a young QB. Heck, had Herm still been here, the Chiefs might have actually drafted Sanchez.

When the Chiefs drafted Dorsey, Herm has said subsequently that he wanted to draft Matt Ryan, but that the Falcons had taken him.

Herm could be coaching right now if he wanted to. He doesn't. He likes his analyst job. Makes similar money for a lot less work.... and has incredible job security.

As far as Haley getting a head job.... I guess we will have to see.

Tyler Thigpen is better than Cassel and it's not even close. Cassel is the worst full time starter in the league by the one metric that matters most -- yards per attempt.

Edit: Does anyone think Cassel will be a starter when he is cut loose here or Pioli is fired? Matt Cassel simply is not a starting QB in this league.

I think that the head coach has a ton of influence about how things are run. The mere fact that Crennel can change so much in less than a week would seem to indicate that Haley had an awful lot of control. Control that Crennel now has. Control that was delegated to him by Pioli.

Crennel didn't take any shots at Haley. Heck, the talk about who was starting was taking a shot at himself because he did the whole "I don't want to tip my hand' thing the DAY before. HE did, not Haley. He didn't take any shots at Haley. Of course, I woudln't be surprised if Haley saw it that way. I mean, he held a grudge about TJ for three years. Who knows how Toddler felt about Crennel insulting him by changing the weight lifting sessions.

Pioli would have been well within his position to lay out all the reasons that Haley was axed. Yet, he didn't. If the shoe was on the other foot, I doubt Toddler would have handled it that way.

Pioli obviously has made mistakes. But from what I know of both people, Haley was the bigger problem.

The biggest thing is that Haley was a poor fit for this team. He didn't work well with Pioli. We all have our opinions, but none of us really know what happened.

I will continue to believe that both men are at fault, and that neither handled everything perfectly.

I just think that on the whole, Haley handled things more poorly than Pioli. It will be curious to see if Haley gets a head coaching job again.

After seeing that you know he hated the position he was in. His hands were tied to say the least. I'm not disagreeing with Haley's dismissal, but any coach in the league would've gotten fired with Cassel/Palko at QB. And I really do believe he was starting Palko to say fuck you to Pioli because Haley knew he was gone no matter what. Tonight's program really showed us what thought was just speculation before in a lot of areas.

Frankly, I don't know. I don't think that was Haley. I imagine it was Pioli. I don't know that the doors were unlocked last week.

I do know that Haley controlled who played, when meetings were held, when the worked out, and how he answered questions.

God, I can't believe I'm saying this but does anyone else think Todd would have been a better coach under Carl Peterson? King Carl for all his faults seem to let the coaches put their stamp on the team. I'm not saying he is a better GM at all, but I think Haley would have done better.

Marty, Gunther, Vermeil, Herm, each of their teams had the identity of the coach stamped all over it. I don't feel like this was ever a Haley stamped team. In fact the Haley reign was very schizophrenic. I still got the feeling I don't know what kind of coach Haley is and can be.
