There will be no perfect season this year in the NFL. The Kansas City Chiefs, of all teams, made sure of that -- handing the Green Bay Packers a 19-14 loss Sunday.

A superior defensive game plan by interim Chiefs coach Romeo Crennel limited Aaron Rodgers and a Packers offense that had previously run roughshod over the rest of the NFL in winning their first 13 games.

Sunday, Rodgers misfired on more passes (18) than he completed (17) and threw just for just one touchdown.

The Packers (13-1) were held scoreless in the first half, and they entered the fourth quarter trailing for the first time since last December -- when their 19-game winning streak had started.

The Chiefs (6-8), who had looked so hapless a week earlier in a loss to the Jets, were led by Kyle Orton's 299 passing yards. Defensive end Tamba Hali, who grew up in Teaneck, had three sacks of Rodgers.

Detroit is going to kill any Chiefs playoff hopes. If they could beat Oakland and NE holds on here, it actually set up a semi-realistic playoff scenario for the Chiefs.

Chiefs win out + 1 Charger loss + Denver losing @ BUF = win the division. But Detroit is going to screw that up.

Crennel began his NFL coaching career with a 12-year stint with the N.Y. Giants (81-92), serving as the defensive line coach (90-92), special teams coach (83-89) and special teams/defensive assistant coach (81-82). During his tenure with the Giants, the club qualified for the playoffs six times, claiming wins in Super Bowls XXI and XXV. While with the Giants, Crennel worked with Bill Parcells, Bill Belichick and Tom Coughlin, as well as current Chiefs assistant head coach Maurice Carthon.
