Spinoff:

Emmit Thomas is the only internal candidate I can see happening. Him aside, who is available around the league to take over DC.

Around the league:

Keith Butler - Steelers LB coach
Kevin Greene - Packers LB coach
Jim Tomsula - 49ers D-Line coach

Who else is out there?

Even after his debacle in SF I love Mike Singletary and think he would be a good DC.

nobody from the treee. They suck on d.

I would probably promote Gary Gibbs. Since RAC would still be here, it is his defense anyways. Gibbs has a long history of being a DC at the college and NFL level. He would be a wise selection if we stay in house... he would be a puppet of some sorts anyways. He was the Saints DC from 2006-2008.

Good thought. I have suggested Jack Del Rio before, but as someone pointed out he is 4-3.

Im a fan of Nolan.

He runs an aggressive 3-4 scheme (that also has links to the tree) and is a good football mind.

When Josh McDaniels fired him midseason a couple years back, it was because he was too aggressive...that right there tells me that hes a guy I would like to have on board.

he is also a realistic choice.

Call me crazy but I agree. Asshole, but a very good defensive mind and he knows this defense.

Belichick took away his play calling duties his last season at NE, right?

I agree. Mike Nolan would be the best choice. McDaniels fired him because the team imploded after a fast start. If not, McDaniels would have been fired himself. Nolan's D was not the reason that team blew up.

Why can't romeo call the defense like he did today. Just hire a real offensive coordinator to handle the offensive side.

Jack Del Rio will never work for this franchise, given what happened during the 87 strike.

Nolan would be a good choice....it would also mean that McDaniels would not be coming here anytime soon, that would be a bonus.

Romeo is being pretty public in how he wants to be a HC again, so I think if another team likes what they see in him and offers him a HC job, he will leave if he does not get this one. If his phone does not ring, I think he stays, but he will always have one eye on leaving to be a HC again.

I could get behind that hire, he was solid for NY, as long as he can work a 3-4... i'd hate to have him set us back 2-3 years switching to players for a 4-3.

So far Nolans my preference, but Spags is young, energetic & has a proven record as DC.

I would like to see Kevin Greene get a shot at the DC spot. Hawk made his first Pro-Bowl under Greene and Matthews has 2 + DROY in 2009.

The guy is a "new" (started coaching in 2009 w/GB) coach and could learn immensely under Crennel. As an ex-player who was named to the all decade team, he would quickly have the respect of the players. He would come here with two built in studs at LB with a 3rd emerging.

The guy was a sack artist when he played... 3rd on the all time list, #1 in LBs. 5 time pro bowler, 3 time all pro. He hasn't been coaching long but he knows the game inside out.

I don't know much about Kevin Greene the coach, but he was one of my favorite players back in the day.

Smart guy who played totally balls out on every play. I could never figure out why he played for so many different teams, only to be awesome on every single one.

Anyone discussing 4-3 people is a waste of time. This team can't go back to the 4-3 now.

If Romeo is the HC, they are going to be running a 3-4 for a long time.

I have a feeling he'll reek of Singletary. A guy whose aggressive coaching tactics are cute at first, but grows old really fast.

I didn't pay very close attention to his style in Cleveland, but I doubt RAC will run an aggressive, blitzing, high-risk high reward style of defense. That certainly isn't the Belichick model and I don't think RAC has strayed far from his roots.

If you want aggressive, attacking defenses, then Gunther is your man, right? Right?!?

Pleasant was always one of those 'coach on the field' type of players. He's still pretty new to the coaching circles. DC might be a bit too deep of water for him, but if Romeo stays hands on he could grow into it.

Would be fine with me, or groom Anthony Pleasant for the job could be another option.

If Romeo's the coach, you better have a young guy on staff he is grooming IMO.

True. Another reason why I think Peyton Manning will go to Miami. They got alot of pieces in place, and they really need to sell tickets more than here.

I wouldn't mind Antonio Pierce as our linebackers coach

At some point, Pepper Johnson should make his way back home with the Giants. He helped us win two Super Bowls --

How about Bill Belichick as our next head coach? When is Brady retiring?

If you watched the NFLN Special on Belichick, you would know the man absolutely loves the Giants organization. He was all choked up and emotional reminiscing about time spent at Giants Stadium. Belichick will forever be to some degree a NY Giant. He is a great part of our history.
