...can someone fill me in on what remains on his contract? Can we not pick up his option and cut him free?

Finally...the likely hood we release Cassel, sign Orton and draft a qb early? o:-)

If the Chiefs are going to cut him, then next year is the best. Chiefs will see a 5.5 Million cap charge. If they were to wait and cut him in 2013 or 2014, they would be charged more (7.7 & 9.2).

its clear they frontloaded the contract for that reason as well as to take up cap space because they clearly didnt plan on spending much in the first 3 years.

but yes, the best position to cut him in his contract would be, right now in this upcoming offseason.


there's a good chance Pioli did this to cover his own ass. If it was still crap by year 3 and he needed a new coach and the QB wasnt performing, he can tie both together, pin the blame on them and save face and a second chance.
