I think if this were some plot by Pioli to discredit Haley he'd have suspended the policy for longer than one week. It was really only a few days. When a team wins only 20 games out of 26, but is pre-occupied with cock blocking the media, there's no "too much" about it.

Carl Peterson was villified to no end for behavior much less ridiculous than this.

He was 28-18 at this point in his tenure and his first HC hire went on to coach 7 more years here.

Well, Pioli should have known the savvy media wouldn't fall for it. Pioli's mistake was trying to blame the coach for a known team policy decision. But it's typical Pioli behavior, so I've been told.

Seriously, where are you getting your info on this? Are you just using your preconceived belief of Pioli being sneaky and egoy to make what happened fit a theory? Do you have actual accounts that Pioli hoped to fool everyone into believing it's Haleys call on policies like media room doors being locked? The media knew before hand it's not Haley's call, I think Pioli knows the media knows that's not a Haley decision.

I know most of CP hate Pioli, I'm not really keen on him either, but the hatred grew so big, so fast, I think he gets blame for things he shouldn't. It's like the thing about how all the good players on the team were draft picks from Peterson. Yeah, many are, but what should Pioli have done? Cut them all? If you go to a team with a handful of good players, you keep them and use them. I don't see how that becomes a negative. The two big reasons I see to not like Pioli are TJ, and MC. He got better in the last two drafts, but those moves set us back.

The secrecy irked the media right off the bat, and they've been beating that drum for all three years Pioli has been here. I don't care, but the media has been telling me to hate Pioli, and it's because they can't get the info they used to. That's not my beef, and I don't care about their access, or lackthereof.

It's fairly well-known what kind of "attitude" presents itself around Arrowhead. People that spend any time there during the week see it.

Here's the thing, I don't really CARE how they treat the media. I DO care that they seem to be spending cycles/brain power on thwarting the media when the team on the field SUCKS.

However, for the most part, Peterson ignored the media, especially the locals. Pioli treats them like SPIES. It's not about the media, it's about what that activity says about Pioli - about what his character is and what he REALLY thinks it takes to build a successful team. At worst, it's a thinly-veiled attempt to continue and perpetuate the idea that Haley, not Pioli, was behind these kinds of things.

The media in KC is in a personal war with Pioli, they hate how he treats them so they fight back the only way they can, by trying to sway public opinion against Pioli. It's working pretty well.

This is only a theory, I have no proof, but it's no more far fetched than thinking Pioli thought he'd get everyone to think the whole secrecy thing was all Haley.

A question. Let's say the plan worked, and that right now everyone was saying, well, it must have all been Haley. The locked doors, the lack of access to the players, all Haley. How long would he have to keep it up? The rest of the year? When could he stop? Next year when he gets the new coach? Would he say, Yep, sorry everyone, remember how Haley had all those policies about the locked doors and no access? The new coach has the same policies. Go figure.

Or was it something simple like having a new head coach would attract 30x the number of reporters who typically show up and they didn't want the hassle of having to escort the larger number?

It's the local media who made a big deal about it, not the team.

Peterson hated the media, he always thought they were against him, but he loved to try to get his side of the story out there. Pioli is suspicious of the media, but he doesn't care about getting his own side told, therefore the media has to guess as to motive. I'm not a conspiracy theorist. Nobody "inside" told me that Pioli did it to trick the media into thinking it was all Haley. But somebody "inside" told me that the locked doors (and closed blinds among other things) were absolutely Pioli's policy.

Again, I'm going farther in defending Pioli that I'd like, but year one was going to be a losing season, new regime, transition. Year two won ten game won the division, I have no problem with 2010, other than how it ended. Before this year you'd have to say Pioli was doing a good job. It all comes to this year. I think they'll go 7-9, which is around where everyone thought they'd be, before the injuries.

Pioli made two bad personal decisions, and should have never hired a coach he couldn't get along with. Pioli will get one shot with the next coach. Then it'll all be on him.

The win/loss record tells me he needs to worry about doing his job instead of impeding the media from "selling competitive secrets". All of this BS is completely unnecessary.

I don't know how much he "worries" about it. It was probably a decision he made in a meeting a few years ago. I could be wrong, but I'll bet he just lets the staff implement the policy, and he doesn't ask everyday, Are the doors locked? Good.

Like I said before, I don't think saying "hey guys, lock the doors behind you" prevents him from doing his job. Pioli isn't personally sneaking around the complex with a big ring of keys and locking doors.

I don't think I'm explaining myself correctly. It's not necessarily the repetition of the activity being a time sink.

It's more that Pioli might actually believe that these types of activities are part of the foundation of building a winning team.

Even if you don't believe he's a raving egomaniac (and I don't - he's got an ego but I don't think the Whitlock description is 100% accurate either), it leaves us with the heart-sinking feeling that he just doesn't KNOW what it takes to build a winning team.

This.

The priorities at 1 Arrowhead Drive are ridiculously out of whack.

Requiring an escort to the bathroom? Requiring people with offices overlooking the practice facility to close their blinds during practice?

Sounds like kindergarten.

I think maybe it's more that he's a paranoid weirdo. (but I dont think he really knows how to build a winning team either)

Why do you think it's a priority?

The fear is that they're closed off from the world & have lost all sense of reality. The North Vietnam of the NFL. While their people are starving they pipe 80s rock n roll into the streets. Feed them Cassel thinking it's manna

It all makes sense now, though.

Pioli had the doors unlocked for the brief period of time when representatives of the national media were in town covering the Packers game!!!

It's exactly what Hitler did during the 1936 Olympics. He had all the "Jews Are Bad" signs removed during the games, too!!!

It's the same thing!!

Pioli is Hitler!!!

You're right there. I question Pioli's ability to build a consistent winner. These policies aren't part of my worry though.

Even though it was all Haley's idea...

Just piss in the corner a time or two. They'd get the idea.

I think it goes to motive. Pioli rescinded the policy to make Haley look bad and then when it became clear it just made him look worse, the policy was reinstated. I hate all this secrecy. Cutting media access also means cutting off access to the fans. Barring information the reporters were sending in story based upon what they felt because they had no concrete information. Pioli's policy creates a harsh working environment for those who work at the facilites and for the media. Its also pointless. He's not securing national secrets. If someone has their blinds closed, is someone on the field going to be able to report them if they peak out the side? It creates animosity on these boards too because we don't have any information either. Are you really trying to protect your team from their own fans? Stop playing all the stupid reindeer games and work at putting a quality product on the field.

Hell when you make your co-workers close their blinds, it shows you are insecure little bitch IMO. Media I can see alittle bit, but other Chiefs employees that goes over the edge for me.

Assuming this is true, can you imagine the kind of mind that thinks like this?

I mean, I've known bat-sh*t crazy girls who crafted less bizarre, paranoid plans.

We just went through this. You're stating a theory as a fact. Pioli wanted to make Haley look bad. I don't know this, in fact I doubt it. I think Pioli knows the media is aware of his policy.

Those policies are part of who Pioli is and who he is ultimately determines whether or not he's capable of winning at a consistently high level.

People who are generally both competent and confident don't need to pull shit like this, it's useless.

I guess I just don't care about the media locked in, the blinds closed, or whatever. If Pioli fails there is no correlation between policies like this and his ability to identify and acquire talent. Pioli could be the best GM in the league and still have a policy like this.
