I test drove one (a 4.2) last week, and as clear as I can tell it is an utter badass ride, also my next one, without a doubt!

interesting matchup, never mind the spam, it's not the intention.

Thanks, if you get a chance to watch.

Audi is my favorite brand. Germans produce hot women and excellent cars.

Rented an Audi A6 Turbo Diesel last time I was in Germany. Audi + Autobahn = Cargasm.

A C5 Vette is nada. Try that against a stock Z06.

regardless, that vette has no business losing to that S4, that's a later model c5 - like an 03. Those were super light. Historically, i'd had blamed the vettes' weight.

The S4 was an unbelievable rocket ship ride though, Marcellus, I couldn't even 'open it up' ....and it still impressed the hell out of me, I. MUST. HAVE IT!

I always had a positive opinion of VWs and by extension Audis. Then I met my wife and had to deal with her Jetta. What a POS! I have never had such a shitty car and have banned her from buying either brand in the future unless she is solely responsible for the maintenance. If you have enough money to not care about stuff like that then I suppose it doesn't matter, but from a "value" standpoint I'll never get one.

they always do on film, w/ 400HP each, sure there's much badder ass'd cars out there, but these two weigh nothing.

I have to agree, they are just junk. To make it worse, they are expensive to fix, which you have to do often. Oh well, 'nuff said.

at my old apartment complex there was an Audi that looked really similar to that; looked great (not sure if it was the same model, etc but you get the point).

The owner of that car had a buddy who would come around every few months or so with a twin turbo Caddy CTS-V.

holy crap. thing sounded awesome, and I'm sure would pin you back in the seat.

Love the Audi S4. There are so many retired men driving Vettes around that I see way too many of them.

I'm done with European cars after our Volvo experience. Holy shit. I've never had a car in the shop so often. My wife had begun to think that it was "normal" to see your mechanic once a month. She can't believe that she's going on her 3rd year with her Honda Pilot without a single trip to the mechanic.

What a stupid fucking race. That Vette didn't even launch. I love S4s, but that Vette should have shit all over that S4, even with equal HP.

only thing i can think is its the weight difference but i thought the newer vets were light, you might say - but their engine weight difference is probably why it shit.

Silock
12-29-2011, 11:19 PM
The newer Vettes are still pretty light. The C5 is about 3300 lbs, and the S4 is about 4,000. That's a huge difference, when you consider that every 100 lbs is worth close to 1/10th of a second in the 1/4 mile. Just the weight difference alone should be worth about 7 carlengths.

I could see that holding true if you don't care about maximizing performance for the dollar. Give me the Vette any day of the week.

I've never driven a car like that - it may look like an A - but it's a totally different car. That thing was LITERALLY a dream ride, and you can save this, I WILL have one in 1 yr or sooner from today. And it'll be an `08 4.2 - I have the A4 3.2, now. It's not exactly slow, but this S4 is in another league.

Video doesn't do a car-race justice, unless they're topping 150 - it just isn't a clear visual representation.

Except you can still daily drive the C5. Can't do that with a kit car. Nor do you have to build your own C5.

No, I get that, but they still didn't even launch their cars, which is why it's stupid, even with the video seemingly making them slower. It just wasn't a fair representation of what either car is capable of doing. Given equal HP, that Vette should have demolished the S4. Bad, bad drivers in both cars.

The vette actually had the jump, but I agree on the drivers. Regardless as an Audi advocate, It was quite quenching for me to see.

They're not even in the same league as any of those cars listed, and it's not even close. Those all run at least low 13s (or are one mod away from doing so) to deep in the 12s. An Acura would be low 14s at best, and still be FWD.

If pure performance is what you are after in that class add the Nissan GTR.

Can't afford, even used. I'm talking $30k and under here. I don't want another car payment, so I have to keep it cheaper so I can buy outright.

That's the way to go, absolutely no question about it! Great job. I doubt I'll be fortuante enough to do that, but I'll be certain to over pay to get from upsidedowness, that occurs once you leave the lot. Also, I plan on putting down about 30% - if all goes well and God willing.

I will report my repairs tomorrow, I have a bad sensor right now, and it's going to Audi, tomorrow.

I'm needing to be there by 7:30AM to drop it, but it's only a mile from my crib, so I'm okay w/ that and still being awake, yada yada

Yeah, although I'm not against doing the work myself. Problem is, just the parts for M cars are stupid expensive, nevermind the labor. If I get one, it would definitely have to be low-miles with an intact warranty.

You just have to downsize for a while and build back up. And you have to be patient. I mean, I bought my S2000 for $14,000 and sold it a year and a half later for $15,000 with more miles on it. Go figure. Definitely have to wait to find the right deal.

Although, now that I'm seriously looking, I'm thinking I can squeeze into a 50k mile or so C6 Vette. That would be awesome.

Looking at a new S4 for your next ride? Are you also considering coupes? If so, was going to suggest a 335is as something you may want to test drive.

It'll have to be an 08 most likely, and it'll be inside a year, provided I'm lucky enough to be in position, but I'm going to work on it, my plan is: at the beginning of the year I'm paying off all debt not named car loan, my next plan is to attack the car loan starting in January, as well. ;) gotta crash - talking about cars is about as fun to me, these days, as talking of food.

Ty all!

335 of 08 or 09 would be comparable to an 08 S4. 300 HP twin turbo V6 and it gets decent enough gas mileage. Still similar acceleration as it weighs less and potentially less maintenance issues.

not that anyone will give a rat's ass, but an update on my repair, as promised.

Turns out it was an ignition-coil, which was good news, this was an original recall on the vehichle and there was absolutely no charge, so I'm thankful.

Additionally they even washed the car. Thankful I am.
