Well what picks do they have to work with now. How do we think they'll handle the Palmer/Campbell situation? Lots of unanswered questions here... I think we are going to be seeing a number of coaches and staff out on their butts in Oakland with the new management in charge.

Hopefully they screw up the HC hire....:grovel:

At first I thought it was the chicken sandwhich from Burger King last night, but I have that same feeling.

To that end, Hue Jackson as an OC could be a nice hire. He played college QB and I remember him as a very good/popular/effective coach while here at Arizona State. He groomed Carson Palmer so he can help Cassel.

He values the running game witnessed by Stephen Davis having a career year under his coaching in Washington (with Schottenheimer, BTW). Plus he made Joe Flacco a good QB and since Jackson left Baltimore, Flacco has been flacid. And you really can't deny the success he had in Oakland with McFadden, Bush and some of the younger receivers.

Jackson would be better than Muir and anyone on our staff.

He's a very intriguing option now.

I have a real strange hunch that Romeo hires Hue.

Hue Jackson: McKenzie is going to “gut this place”
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on January 10, 2012, 2:50 PM EST
Hue Jackson AP

Hue Jackson wanted more power, and he wound up with no power.

He’s out after going 8-8 in his only season as Raiders head coach. Jackson, who is friends with new G.M. Reggie McKenzie, was stunned by the development.

“He’s going to gut this place,” Jackson told Henry Wofford of CSNBayArea.com. “He [McKenzie] wants to bring in his own guys. No job is safe right now.”

That sounds like a promising development for the Raiders. While some will connect Jackson’s firing with the instability of the last decade in Oakland, McKenzie is making a clean break from the past.

Raiders fans should want a fresh start, with changes at every level of the coaching staff and management. Get rid of the dysfunction. McKenzie is going to bring in people from Green Bay that he trusts.

Jackson was understandably shaken Tuesday, reportedly so upset he could barely speak. He got caught in the crossfire.

That’s unfortunate timing, but ultimately keeping Jackson would have added to the dysfunction. McKenzie reportedly said it didn’t have to do with Jackson’s bad relationship with some of his players.

Jackson’s all-in trade for Carson Palmer was only one example that Jackson was looking out for Jackson in 2011, and not the Raiders organization long-term.

Jackson ultimately took a big swing in his one year in Oakland. He missed. The team didn’t make the playoffs and Jackson coached an undisciplined, inconsistent team. Just like Tom Cable.

McKenzie is the new leader in Oakland. His vision didn’t include Jackson, so the team is better off not wasting a year or two before McKenzie brought in a coach he truly wanted.

But

The Raiders were 7-4 we lost 4 of the next 5 and got beat out by a team with a college offense...

All new GM's usually gut the team when they come in, but 8-8 is not progress to me, I hate it for Hue, I really liked him but this is a business and being a nice guy won't keep your job in the NFL

You have to think that if Jason Campbell and Darren McFadden had stayed healthy, the Raiders would have won 2-3 more games.

Hue seemed to wilt under the pressure and was way too emotional after Al Davis's passing and ever since, but it is a tough break that injuries to 2 guys really changed the Raiders' fortunes.

Did you catch Mackenzie's presser? Said be became Director in Green Bay cuz of his scouting prowess in which he balanced talent with "what kind of person" a player is. WTF does that mean? What is he talking about? Sez he's gonna bring the Green Bay "hierarchy of organization" to Oakland - legacy & loyalty will not be considered. Sure, many of us have been dazed & confused since the death of Al. But are we still the Raiders if we just carbon-copy the Green Bay organizational structure?

I heard Aaron Rodgers loves Oakland and McKenzie and would LOVE to become a Raider after this season. It's widely speculated that he will DEMAND a trade to Oakland. Then Greg Jennings has said he won't play anywhere if Rodgers isn't his QB. Looks like you all might get two great players out of this.

I'm a total liar. Good luck with Palmer next season.

It's just another way of saying "the right 53."

I watched some of the presser and had flashbacks to Pioli's presser in many ways. One advantage you guys have at least is that McKenzie inherits a former first overall pick at QB. Because I guarantee if Jason Campbell was the QB and you guys had some draft picks, he'd be allowed to walk and McKenzie would pull a Pioli and trade for Flynn (assuming GB franchises him).

I found that very striking though. He emphasized that it was not going to be all about talent to him, he wants guys who "just love football." Very Pioli, and very anti-Al Davis, who was all about talent.

And WTF is up with Mark Davis' hair?

I dunno... this all very alien. You want fast, strong guys that hit hard - who cares if they are "good people" or if they love football? You just need them to perform during their hour or so on the field. Somewhere in the afterworld, Al Davis is throwing a fit....

McKenzie is giving this organization the cleanup it has need for years. Gone are the scholarship front office personal, assistant coaches and players. I am extremely pleased with this firing. Not only did I think Jackson was in over his head and needed to be fired, I kept reading how him and McKenzie were friends and shared the same agent. This was a test in my mind, would McKenzie upgrade the coaching or give his buddy a pass. He made it clear there are no longer scholarship positions available in Oakland~

Hey now, everyone on the Planet enjoys your contributions via twitter responses...myself included.

Do me a favor and ask everyone that you have gotten responses from about thoughts on our OC spot and who makes sense in their opinion and if Mike Sullivan from NY would be a realistic option.

I know its a stretch, but Coughlin is a "tree" guy as he coached for Parcells in their NY haydays.

Show me where I said I was rich. .

I'm building a house, which is pretty common knowledge on this board. I was also responding to drivel last year when I ripped on you after you're trying to give everyone credit advice.

Well if you are a school teacher you can't make that much money... You must have a wife that makes big bucks

Hiring a person that will make an AFC West foe weaker is good
Also sending the Donks in a tailspin with their 7th DC in 7 years will help too

Other than that, I am not even going to pretend I know shit about the guy

I think it'll be 8 different DC's in the last 8 years. Kinda like the record of OAK HCs recently.

I'm kinda surprised that he is looking for a coaching position this year. I would just want to take the paid year off.

Most of the time, that I've read about anyway, when a HC gets fired he only gets paid the next year if he doesn't coach and if he does take a job the previous owner is only on the hook for the difference between the two salaries.

If that's the case here, he would be essentially be coaching for free (in terms of monatary compensation) but if he really did go rogue (which seems the case more and more the longer he looks for work but isn't finding any) it would be in an attempt to repair his damaged perception around the league.

I still think he will get another chance and will be very successful, but he will have to pay his "debts" first.

Once the Raiders go back to a zone blocking scheme, they have to decide whether to re-sign Michael Bush or trade Darren McFadden.

I'm not trolling. Go ahead and name the running backs who've had lisc franc injuries that came back and were productive. It's funny Hue Jackson said that McFadden would be back during the season last year but never did despite the team being in the playoff hunt and now he could possibly be traded.
