My wifey wants to go to Wichita this weekend for a surprise party for one of her college pals. I haven't been to Wichita for a long time, maybe ten years, and when I was there, I just drove through on I-35.

The place we're going is a suburban neighborhood clubhouse near W 13th St N and N135th St. W. I believe that would be considered West Wichita.

There doesn't seem to be any hotels in that area of town, looks like solid suburbia. I think the closest cluster of hotels may be back to the east closer to the airport.

Any suggestions on a nice place to stay on that side of town? Rep to those who can help a brutha out.

Probably not. It's her 50th BD.
Maybe she has a hot daughter.....?

Wichita really isn't that big. Are you dead set on staying out west or would you consider staying in Old Town?

I guess anywhere from Downtown to the west side would be OK.

What is "Old Town?"

A good new area is the Waterfront in NorthEast Wichita if you are not stuck out West.

The Courtyard by Marriot in old town is nice and recently remodeled. It's within walking distance of a lot of pubs and restaurants too.

Resthaven?

I have Brother and Mom buried there. Wasn't aware they had put a hotel there, but Mel Hambleton Ford is on that corner also.

We had some friends stay here, and they liked it. It will be pretty close to where you are going.

You really shouldn't go to West Wichita. You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villany.

If you insist, I recommend the Hotel at Old Town, very nice and lots to do if you are making a weekend of it, or the Airport Hilton, also nice and closer to the party.

As far as the OP, you are pretty far out west. So you are probably right to go with around the airport if you want the closest. I have had several conferences at the Airport Hilton and have seen there rooms and it seems pretty nice. A little more expensive then some other options though.

The only one I wouldn't recommend is the Quality Inn by the Kellogg & 235 interchange. We had a seminar there and it was pretty dreary looking and had a very musty smell.

Cemetery is behind the "hotel", the ford dealership is across the highway.

Online Review of "The White Glove" Motel:
Never Go Back.

this place sucks more so than any other motel i've seen. they say they are laid back and willing to work with you. but the moment you think thats true you get a threatening letter in your door telling you (2 day 35 dollars) i take this as 2 days 35 dollars wouldn't you? ok so we agree? next the guy says well if you don't like how i write my messages or how we will deal with this then get the heck out... (so we pack and leave) you know this manager doesn't understand business is important. to make money in this type of situation you don't punk one who stays with you. now 3rdly they have a very bad odor around the place. which comes from a septic tank being pumped out and ran all over the ground in this location. which yes has been turned over to wichita public authorities at the city office. enjoy your large finds for this messy place. DO NOT STAY HERE TRUST ME YOU WILL NOT LIKE IT!!

Yeah just a little farther east and just outside the cemetery, off Kellogg there is a sweet little spot called the White Glove

I thought those dumps all got demolished with the 54 expansion. Buddy of mine had a service garage right there, purchased by the project and demolished.

I actually used to live at 135th and 13th. It's as far West as you can get in Wichita before you hit the country (literally, you drive west on 13th from 135th for less than a quarter mile and hit dirt roads). There's a Hawthorne Suites and Ridge and Tyler but her best bet would be any of the myriad of main stream hotels along West Kellogg near the airport.

Ridge and Tyler both run the same direction, N and S a mile apart, is there two of them?

Holiday Inn Express in NW Wichita. Little closer than the airport to your wife's friend's place, and very near New Market Square, with tons of restaurants/bar-n-grill types for you while she's visiting her friend (if you can get away).

I've never seen the hotel, but the area is pretty good, still in development. Can't go too wrong with Holiday Inn Express, right?

Yeah that is the one I recommended in post 16. It is really nice on 21st from Ridge all the way to 119th now. Lots of nice places to spend your money.
21st and Ridge is now busier than Kellogg and Rock Road.
