Poor people handle bureaucracy and waiting lines very well. I think I might consider hiring one to wait in lines for me.

You know, Lumpy and I were talking the other day about our bills... We have way too many and we're looking at consolidating so we can make ends meet a little easier.

Maybe I should just say, "Fuck It" and let the government pay my bills for me.
Is there a department that will pay my cable and internet bill?
Maybe one for my cell phone? Is there a PS3 game allowance or something for Netflix?

Sorry, I just had to get that off my chest. TO THE DC!!!11

The most sickening part to me is a woman with a 1046.00 light bill and she want's help.

Look at the end where they pan the parking lot showing how busy it is... Those cars don't look like poor people to me....

That money should be for the elderly and disabled

It's a utility bill, which probably includes electricity and whatever heating source she has.

Even is this bill is every quarter, that means that she probably has her heat setpoint at 80F or something fucking stupid.

Yeah, she must be 1-2 months behind at least. Out here, SDGE will allow you damn near 3-months before they cut your service.

It's sad that this is what America has become. They have these people hooked on the teet, and like any baby, if you pull them off w/o feeding them, they'll cry and cry and cry.

Two consecutive months of running the heater all day, lights on constantly, flat screens running all day, X-box on most the time, charging Cricket Wireless phones....shit adds up.

Even still, how they manage'd to run that up is pretty damn amazing.

The highest i ever did was about $300, and that was in the summer while running the AC damn near every day in 4 bedroom house.

People who do not pay taxes should not be allowed to vote themselves money.

I managed to run up a couple of $500+ gas bills 2 winters ago. I about shit when I got the first one, so I tried to be more careful. The following month was almost $100 higher.

What are you going to do, though? Its not worth freezing your ass off over saving $5 per day.

You have a child and need support, fine.

You have a second one and need more, fine, you sign a release of reproductive rights in order to hook up the second one to the system. You refuse to get fixed, then you lose all support, and lose custody of the children.

Game over.

LEXINGTON, N.C. (WGHP)—
Davidson County is handing out what’s left of the financial aid for heating bills available from its Low-income Energy Assistance Program.

The assistance is now being given away by the county’s Department of Social Services on a first-come, first-serve basis -- and there will not be enough for everyone to receive help.

David Moorefield, who works with the DSS (http://www.myfox8.com/topic/crime-law-justice/laws/law-enforcement/u.s.-diplomatic-security-service-ORGOV0000126159.topic), said they were given $1.3 million and helped close to 7,000 families last year. This year, however, they were only given $207,000.

“This was a tremendous cut,” said Moorefield, who expects they’ll be able to help less than 800 families.

As of Wednesday morning, the DSS only had $87,000 left to give away.
“It won't take but one or two days for us to have that money spent, and then once we're out of it, we're out of it. We don't have it anymore,” Moorefield said.

This year, the assistance is going straight to the energy suppliers as opposed to the customers.

“I don't feel like that's very fair but that's how the system works,” said Michael Anderson, who received assistance.

Those who are interested in seeking assistance with their energy bills are required to apply for it in-person at the DSS. Pre-requisites for qualifying include monthly incomes that range between $1,180 and $2,422, depending on the number of people in your household.

Could be several things. Maybe he doesn't trust the businesses to apply that aid to citizens as efficiently as the local government does.

In my experience, aid for utilities isn't given as cash to the person applying. It's given as credit on your bill. I don't know if that's true in this case.

Now that I look at it again I think I got it wrong the first time. When I first read it, I thought they meant that the state govt. was starting to send money to the utility company and that the citizens would have to apply to the company to get that money used on their bills if they qualified. It just never occurred to me that the citizens were at one time being given straight cash as aid. Now that I have read it again, it looks to me like it's saying just that. I don't see the problem with the change in policy.

when my roommates moved out on me, and left me with the electric bill, it was 1100 dollars for three months. (to clear up, they were taking the money i was giving them for the bills and spending it on something else.) that was the hottest three months of the year, and we had a pool running. i'm all for assistance to those in need, but don't act like you are entitled to the assistance. also, more help should come from the community, and not the government.
