I don't know, it would seem that organized religion might make your mornings happier and provide you with an exemption from at least some traffic laws. I'd say it's worth a try.

People have issues with religion, that's fine and expected. However, how is a little 13 year old singing about going to church in Sunday is the reason you don't believe in organized religion?

I am finding it hard to make the connection.

As far as Justice, no I don't. He was always "a bit off" and I thought he may eat the UPS man at one point. Rather than risk it, I gave him to a friend of mine, that owns a ranch back in the sticks, who wanted a LARGE watch dog. The guy loves the dog, the dog loves it out there and my UPS man lives. Do you still have your mastiff?

did you know that skinless chicken doesn't make a very good soup?

i found that out recently when i tried to make some chicken soup using skinless breasts...

chicken soup needs some chicken fat to taste right...

we saute fresh smashed garlic and onions before we put in the water and chicken and such...

hmmmm, wish i had some good chicken soup now...

Why yes I did John. Without any skin, it tastes like "water soup," plus, you lose all the immune system building properties.

Have you tried those little containers of stock, Mr. go bowe? They're kind of new I think, but you can find them at your local market. They come in a variety of flavors including beef, chicken, fish, lamb, pimento, and cherry-squash.

They work great for all sorts of things like stir-fry or soups or you can just drink them straight with a chaser of vodka.

The cool thing is that you can dramatically improve the flavor of homemade chicken soup without adding fat. Just slam some pre-made stock in that bad boy and simmah!!!

Jesus is more viable because he's viable in three major religions, Christianity obvious carries the most weight, as he's either the son of God or a third of the trinity. He's a big prophet in Judaism, who's downfall was thinking he was the son of god, or the messiah for the Jewish people (they're still waiting for one). And he's a healing prophet to Allah in the Quran who's downfall was thinking he was a god.

I'm really not trying to discount your mythical storyline of religion, just saying Jesus obviously is viewed as a viable religious figure to many different beliefs, whereas the viking gods had the viking only.

I don't know what to believe. Life seems to specific to not have some sort of divine purpose or plan, but then again, life could all be just some weird and silly accident.

Yeah, but that's because Christianity and Islam are all off-shoots of Judaism.

And we all know how fanatical the mid-east is about religion. These religions (Christianity and Islam) spread because of their ability to consolidate power for their leaders. Other religions weren't about that.

As bad as this may sound, Jews made Religion a political thing rather than a spiritual thing and that's why these religions spread so fast. It was a good idea to control the governed. I don't say that to be a bigot, that's just what I see when I read the history texts.

hmmm, I don't think Judaism was the first to think of "my god is better than yours so I'm going to kill you". Man has almost always used their religion to drive their politics, war is a part of politics me thinks, and I have a hard time thinking through all the ancient religions and not finding a god of war in most of them.

No no no no no. You are correct but I must not have made myself very clear. I take responsibility on that.

My point is more about it's role in actual government and aiding those in charge than it's role in 'firing up the masses'.

The Russians traded troops (elite Vangaian guard) for Orthodox Christianity with the Byzantines (who were essentially the remaining Roman Empire), and it was because they believed it would help the leaders consolidate power.

I think I understand. Religious influence has increased, religious power fine tuned and upgraded through the years like bronze to steel weapon and war tactics have improved (for their intended purposes I suppose both have "improved")

Observational point, the US still has a big influence in the middle east, a region of religious driven politics for centuries, yet America is doing more to remove religion from our politics now than ever before. Just a "hmmmmm" thought.

Could it be that Religious views offer different political options to consider in world politics, yours and my individual belief in organized religion not withstanding, there has to be some validity to this.

I do not want to come off as blaming religion for war.

What I'm basically getting at is this: If you look at the world prior to the spread of Christianity and Islam... it was dominated by tribal societies constantly at conflict with one another. Afterwards we were a world of nations focused less on killing each other and more on killing 'heathens'.

I'm not condemning it, simply rationalizing why they're so much more popular than their older counter-parts.

ChiefGator
02-16-2012, 03:31 AM
I think you were closer to correct when you were talking about it being a religion for governance. The Jewish god was one of the most moral gods, expecting a high level of character and providing very concrete laws to its citizens..er.. I mean worshippers. This level of condemnation got to be a bit stiffling, especially when they were no longer running the government. Something had to break, so along comes someone who says that this ultra-moral god is also a very forgiving god. Waah-laah! A great religious recipe is born.
