Josh Looney @JoshLooney
#Chiefs OT Steve Maneri changed jersey to No. 87 & has been moved to TE on official roster. Maneri played TE at Temple/caught 1 pass in '11

KC Chiefs Lose An Offensive Tackle, Gain A Tight End
by Joel Thorman on Feb 16, 2012 1:27 PM CST

The Kansas City Chiefs lost an offensive tackle and gained a tight end after some roster shuffling this week. Actually, they didn't release or cut anyone -- we had a position change. Josh Looney of KCChiefs.com reports on a few of the latest updates on the Chiefs roster:

OT Steve Maneri changed his jersey number to 87, which is not an offensive tackle jersey number. Instead, he's now listed as a tight end. As Josh points out, Maneri played tight end at Temple and caught one ball last year.
S Kyle McCarthy, signed this week, will wear jersey No. 41. All you special teams enthusiasts can play your jersey purchase accordingly.
For those counting, the Chiefs now have only two offensive tackles on the roster. Hmm...has the idea of the Chiefs drafting an offensive tackle ever been brought up?

Wait, what's with all the hate? Is this a repost?

Personally, I find it interesting because we're now left with zeeeero depth at the tackle position (like we ever had any to begin with, but still...)

It means either David Mims is the second coming of Willie Roaf, or we're going to be drafting RT pretty effin high in the draft

Fine with me. There is shit on the FA market for OT and passed Adams in the draft there really isn't anyone to get excited about.

I just hope Maneri goes on a diet. He was 270lbs when he was in college playing TE.

Another?

Maneri is already on the team so we didn't add another anything. If anything, this is a sign that Pope is not coming back... hopefully.

Moving him to TE is adding a TE. You'll argue about anything trivial.

... All they did was change his title. He wasn't playing OT last season. You'll bitch about anything trivial.

a blocking tightend which probably means that Pope is gone

fine by me since i didn't see much from pope in terms of blocking or catching

He caught a few, mainly because defenses ignored him

yep, just a way to sneak another OT onto the field without him having to check in as eligible every play.

I've been waiting a long time for this, Vegas now gives us 1,000,000,000 odds to win the sb which was 1,000,000,001 before these great moves.

I like it. He was really too light to be an effective tackle but I think he'll be better than Pope at blocking and he can catch. Everytime Pope was thrown to last year, it was an adventure.

Why not it isn't like we have a QB who can throw to them. ;)

If this gets Pioli his scrub TE fix, we basically just picked up an extra 7th rounder.

So ... in regards to my question ...

Let's say that we're playing a football game next season and let's say that (God forbid) out starting tackles go down with injury. Can this guy step in and play tackle with his new number and all?
