I've only recently really even tried it. I think I like it. If you're cruising a thread and you want to see something the asshats say, you still can. However, I don't think they can message you in anyway. I'm liking this shit....

It's not a bad thing but you can still see threads they start and see when someone quotes them so I found it kind of useless.

In all honesty, I obviously can't have anyone on ignore and perform my designated function here. However, before I became a mod I would iggy a few posters temporarily.

I used to feel that way. But I've iggied a couple of people who bug me but I don't think they're going to cause enough problems to require administrative action. If they do, I can just respond to a report if necessary. I recommend it.

By the way, another topic question would be, why is the ignore function deemed a bad thing? If someone is harassing you enough to warrant the ignore function instead of mod actions, then why is that a "bitch move"?

The thread ignore feature is better than individual ignore. I could care less how big you perceive big your manhood to be or the volume of your fecal matter.

But any poster who has visually distracting avatars/sigs that bounce, wiggle or blink get the "I" button. Nothing personal just lack of tolerance in my old age.

I used to feel the same way. Then I decided I come here for enjoyment so there's nothing wrong with personalizing my on-line experience to make it as enjoyable as possible. In fact I now consider it a fantastic tool that I should have used long before.

That said I don't have any users on ignore, just threads. It's cool to log on and see things that mostly interest me instead of a front page full of repository threads for Nashville Auto Diesel College's coed backgammon team and such. It's like my own little personal planet with my favorite things right there in front of me and little that doesn't interest me.

I don't get it, either. It's no different than avoiding/not associating with certain people IRL.... if there was a real life ignore button, I'd use it. Then I'd complain when people quoted them.

Some people like to be punched in the face because it makes them tough I guess. Others like to read things they don't care about or from people they don't like because it's a more full experience maybe? I don't know. I just know I like the ignore threads function and I don't like being punch in the face.

At one time, I guess it was about a full experience, or not wanting to miss out on stuff. I could definitely see why someone would ignore 50/50 or his 'douse Hamas' thread, but it turned into perhaps the funniest thread in the past year. OTOH, this forum moves so fast, you're bound to miss stuff if you're gone for a few hours much less a weekend or any extended period of time, so might as well do whatever makes it more enjoyable while you are here.

This is just an intraweb bb with random people saying silly shit. Guess I don't get how anyone could be affected enough to need to shield themselves from it.

Some people are good at making every thread they enter about themselves or some petty rivalry with another member, and that's pretty much the one reason I've used it in the past. Once I read the same schtick or trolling effort or pissing match for the 100th time while trying to follow actual discussion, it's time to turn it off.
