Pitchers and Catchers reporting...Spring Training has begun!

Im so glad baseball is here (sort of)! Football is such a depressing subject these days.

I might even head down to Phoenix and check out ST, but I really I cant wait for Opening Day. I may get to help with holding the flag in Center field. Ive got my Pujols jersey (Sorry Cards fans, I know youre still pissed) and Im ready to for the boys of summer.

I'm looking forward to it also. The Royals should have a better then average product on the field. Young talented team. Thinking about doing the trip down there myself actually.

Maybe they will let me help pull the tarp over the field if it rains.

As a lifelong Royals fan, I have to say I am more excited about this season than I have been for any other in a long time. I was only 8 when they won it all in 1985, so I don't remember the glory days too well. Most of my life they have been awful and the thought of not losing 100 games was all I had to look forward to. This team is young and hungry and talented and could make noise. They should be very fun to watch this year.

Besides with the pitching we have in the pipeline, life is good. There won;t be any down years for rebuilding.

Enjoy Pujols for 2-3 years and then you are paying 30$ milion for an average ball player. The Angels can afford that, not the Cardinals.

His "decline" will be a huge boost to our shitty lineup. We needed a MOTO BAD! With the way he changes a lineup, and with our pitching staff ( One of the tops in the AL), Pujols makes us serious contenders. But the bigger picture is dominating the LA market. Marketing aspects. Energizing a fan base that has been the bridesmaid all too often. Getting more National exposure. Marketing. MArketing. marketing. Plain and simple.
Plus, with the DH, Albert will be able to rest and hopefully that will extend his career a little longer than if he would of stayed in the NL. Most people think the Angels will regret the contract in the later years, and while he may not produce like his paycheck will, he will have already been paid for. With the new TV contract, he already has been paid for.

It made more sense from a bunch of angles for both teams for him to go to ALyep, the angels don't need $30 million on the field for 10 years. They just needed a new TV contract and they can just write the money off. No biggie. Won't hurt the product on the field. Pujols can DH. Pujols goes to LA. Everyone involved loves the marketing. But, thats not fair and baseball should learn from the NFL.

If the Cardinals can afford a top ten payroll and it still doesn't make financial sense for them to resign a 11 year icon???? Thats not sustainable. It's one of the big reasons that the NFL has overtaken the MLB. Fans need to believe they have a chance at winning.

It might be because I never had a team to watch like I did the Chiefs. Baseball never seemed like a quality product to watch, honestly, so I never picked up on the Royals, Cardinals, Twins, or any other local teams I would have had growing up.

Pujols wouldnt of been able to hit milestones in the NL becasue of the no DH situation. Having access to being a DH and extending his career helps him continue to be an everyday player for alot longer and achieve certain milestones. Players like to break records. And Im sure the extra 50 million was a bit enticing...

The NY Giants and NY Jets play in New Jersey and get credit for market #1. Texas Rangers play in Arlington TX and get credit for the Dallas MArket, market #5 I believe.

The whole "they play in Anaheim not LA" debate is ridiculous.

Sure, and the Jets/Giants play in the same facility so its not the same situation since to see either team you gotta go to the same place (that is closer than Anaheim), the Rangers aren't splitting the market and Arlington is right smack between Dallas and Fort Worth so again not at all similar situations. And I think the proximity matters in a city that's full of terrible sports fans and is horrible to drive given the fact that the other team is located near smack in the middle of LA. I just think you're waaaaaay overvaluing the spectacle of the Pujols in the long-term. Short-term its potentially great but I doubt he is going to create a bunch of lifelong Angels fans.
P.S. Merchandise sales are part of rev sharing, all those new Angels Pujols jerseys make everyone the same amount of money.

It will be interesting to see how he comes off a season he was injured and didn't really get it going until the second half of the year. I'm sure we will find out a lot more about his character after this move. Dude kept it going at such a high level for so many years, a dropoff is surely coming soon. The DH role should really help him stay healthy but shit happens even in that role when the mind says yes and the body says no

So Texas Rangers get a pass even though their name includes the entire state? Houston is a few hours away isnt it? Is Houston in Texas? hmm...

Dude, its about the TV market. There is no Orange County market. There is no Anaheim TV market. Southern California watches the same ABC, NBC, CBS and FOX channels, and they come out of LA. Period. You clearly dont understand media marketing, and thats ok, most dont. But just becasue its an hour from Anaheim to LA (I know, I grew up there and have driven many many times) doesnt make a difference. You also realize The Angels are going to be on ESPN Sunday more times this year becasue of Pujols? They are going to be on the Big Fox Network 8 times this year (9 is the max) becasue of Pujols? Do you understand that having the Angels logo on national TV wayyy more now helps brand the product? Media marketing my friend. Its more than jerseys and hats. Much more.

True, but thasts anybody, any player. So theres risk no matter what or who you sign. You cant not sign someone like Pujols just because "what if"? Thats playing scared. Besides, the dude is already paid for. that TV contract was HUGE!

My favorite team is the Independance Royals. Too bad Kansas City doesn't have a team.

If they are at .500 or better, I could live with that
