As of today, teams can now place franchise tags on one of their players.

Post any tag updated here as you find them!

"The franchise tag period is now open. From February 20 to March 5, teams can apply the franchise tag to keep a player in town. For the Kansas City Chiefs, that's WR Dwayne Bowe and CB Brandon Carr. There hasn't been an indication the Chiefs are leaning towards using it on either guy, or at all. We just don't know."

Suspect Ray Rice will be wearing a tag until he drops asking price to DeAngelo Williams $. Ravens can thank Panthers for ruining RB market.

#Panthers made 2nd-best RB on their team richest vet RB in history at the time. Brutal contract. And makes things harder for everyone else.

Eh if anything IMO it just leads teams to do the smart thing with FA RBs. Stay away from them.

We see it all the time. When you list the top backs in the league, the list continually turns over every couple of years and is largely dominated by young players.

Draft a guy. Use him up a ton. Let him walk on that 2nd contact.

Most hilariously after the DeAngelo Williams laugher deal, #Panthers now must make cuts to get back under the cap for 2012. Nice foresight.

Pouha not expected to be tagged

Nose tackle Sione Pouha will be a priority for the Jets this offseason, but he probably won’t be franchise tagged.

Jenny Vrentas of the Newark Star-Ledger reports that Pouha is “not expected” to get the tag. The Jets are aiming for a long-term deal.

The Jets don’t have a lot of cap space, so a multi-year deal for the 33-year-old makes a lot more sense. Because of his age, Pouha may be willing to take a relatively affordable deal before free agency starts.

Still, the big man has a ton of leverage. He’s one of the keys to Rex Ryan’s defense and run stuffers like him don’t become available often. We still wonder if the Jets would risk losing Pouha on the open market, but perhaps they are confident they can get a long-term deal done before free agency starts March 13.

I've been intrigued by the idea of Pouha since somebody mentioned it a couple of weeks ago. A premiere run-stuffer would be a nice piece.

Piouha would definitely cost less than Soliai, but he's also likely a year stopgap.

Seahawks “deep” in contract talks with Lynch, prepared to use tag

The free agent running back market looks good on paper, but all the best options aren’t going to change teams.

Ray Rice and Matt Forte will get the franchise tag if they can’t work out long-term deals. The same appears to be true for Marshawn Lynch in Seattle.

Jason La Canfora of NFL Network writes that the Seahawks are “deep in talks” with Lynch on a long-term deal. That deal could be completed “well before” March 5. If the deal falls apart, Seattle is ready to use the tag.

We think using the tag on Lynch makes a lot more sense than a long-term deal. He’s been an inconsistent player throughout his career that only played his best in the second half of last season. Why not make him back up the performance or go year-to-year with a player that already has plenty of wear and tear on his legs?

No matter what the Seahawks do, it’s safe to say Lynch is staying put. And he’ll be able to afford all the Skittles he wants.

Dwayne Bowe Likely Getting Franchise Tag From The Chiefs

I'm joining the chorus of folks stating the obvious: Dwayne Bowe probably isn't going anywhere. We've known that Bowe and the Kansas City Chiefs have been in contract negotiations for some time but the Chiefs latest personnel moves make it a no-brainer -- Bowe will receive the franchise tag.

Well, he'll receive the tag if the Chiefs can't work out a longterm deal with him first. They're still talking and a multi-year commitment is still the goal. If they can not sign him, the Chiefs will almost assuredly place the franchise tag on him.

The franchise tag period started on Monday. The deadline to apply the tag is March 5. There's really no point for the Chiefs to place the tag on him until closer to the deadline.

The Chiefs and Bowe's camp have been in discussions dating back to last season so, given the amount of time thus far they've had to do a deal, it's hard to see a longterm getting done in the next 14 days. As of now, I'd predict the franchise tag.

Then again, deadlines have a way of making people change their minds. Maybe they can avoid the tag.

However they do it, the larger point is that it would be a huge upset if Bowe isn't in a Chiefs uniform next season.
