View Full Version : Football Landry getting too big to play Safety?

Recent pictures posted on free agent SS LaRon Landry's Twitter feed show Landry to be extremely muscle bound.
They can be viewed at the link below. We're speculating, but Landry has appeared to pump so much iron with his upper body that he might be too heavy or bulging to stay at safety. Landry also passed on Achilles' surgery after the season, even though it was recommended by several doctors. His priorities may be more on getting ripped than playing defensive back effectively at this point.

At least he has talent (in football), unlike Sabby whose talents involve alcohol and bars.

So what's the deal? Is he photoshopping himself onto a weightlifter's body? Or is he not good enough at photoshop to increase his biceps without warping the tattoo?

he isnt slow, when healthy he is one of the fastest players at his position in the NFL.

___________________________________________

There are reports that the stem cell route he took for recovery didnt heal as planned and he still needs achilles surgery.

Could put his career in jeopardy.

If it is just rumors with no basis (same reports say he hasnt run for quite some time, either) Id sign him to an incentive laden contract in a heartbeat.

Dude is ELITE talent, heath is his main concern.

It would be a worthwhile gamble IMO.

Only 230? I would've guessed more.

Back in the 80s or 90s the Bengals had a SS named David Fulcher who went 240 at times. Not someone you'd want to encounter in a dark alley or crossing route. I guess if you're fast enough to keep playing SS, it's better to be a behemoth at SS.

I'm sorry, I have to laugh at this. The dudes shoulders are not only pretty well capped, but it's all lean muscle as evidenced by the striations you can see where he is holding the phone forward.

As far as the weighted ab work, he may well not even do that much. The guy is sitting at a ridiculous low bodyfat, like 5-6% in that picture. Core strength is invaluable for football anyway.

He obviously is on HGH and some other goodies, but that is what a guy should be doing.

Low bodyfat has nothing to do with the thick mid-section. That is all because of weighted ab work. It is overdone. Core strenght is good but overdone and it makes you look thick.

And he is not obviously on HGH or other goodies. Dedication and good eating can do this.

He could also use more work on his lats. ;)

Back in the 80s or 90s the Bengals had a SS named David Fulcher who went 240 at times. Not someone you'd want to encounter in a dark alley or crosssing route. I guess if you're fast enough to keep playing SS, it's better to be a behemoth at SS.

He also might be aware that because of his injury history the next team to take a chance on him might be his last. He wants to gain some extra muscle mass to better endure the rigors of an NFL safety.

Nah, he really is - the guy is an unbelievable athlete. Sadly, I think he's an unbelievable athlete who couldn't get enough and started hitting HGH or the like. I guess if Cushing and Mathews can keep playing - not to mention, have an award for DROY re-awarded after a positive test - why not safety's too? The NFL's drug policy ( or rather enforcement thereof ) is a joke.

Oh god, I don't know where to start. Steroids and fitness topics are amongst the biggest laughers on this board. I did zero direct ab work period when I was about his size and you would have sworn against my own word that I did. I did tons of heavy deadlifts and squats though.

His size certainly isn't detrimental to speed jumping ability, etc. Pictures can be very deceiving. Lots of guys in the NFL look like that without a shirt on.

As far as being clean...please.

Why is it a joke? You want everybody to shrink down 20 lbs, lose a step, etc. Game is fine the way it is. Eliminating testing actually would be for the best. No team or player has any added advantage because pretty much everybody is doing it.

Are you that size naturally? I have never seen a person around that weight, not to mention the athletic ability, that was completely clean. Not just any person is going to look like that. He would look the same shape wise at maybe 190-200, just not as much mass.

Haha. My point was basically that he is not muscle bound, too thick of a mid-section, etc. to be great. It's what a lot of guys in the NFL look like without a shirt. A person standing by themselves instead of him standing by say Suggs alters the perception of size. He is certainly not to big and would a great signing.

Me? No. But I know and am friends with several people that are that size. The spend half their time awake lifting and the other half eating.

I am not saying he is clean. Just that everyone here always assumes juice because someone looks like their wives wishes they looked.

Maybe my idea of being jacked is just totally different than you guys. You've seen pictures of TJ flexing, right? How do you expect him to run into those holes that close so quickly in the NFL? Especially with his advanced age. He doesn't have the speed and burst that he used to, and his big fat ass is definitely holding him back. We absolutely saw that this year when the team depended on him and he failed.
