Jets would like to sign WR Jerricho Cotchery. They aren't alone. Chiefs have expressed "significant interest" in J-Co, per source. #nfl

Jerricho Cotchery - WR - Steelers The New York Daily News reports the Chiefs have "significant interest" in free agent Jerricho Cotchery.
Cotchery would be no higher than fourth on the depth chart in Kansas City. The Jets have also expressed interest in bringing back Cotchery, but he isn't know to have yet scheduled any visits. Related: Chiefs, Jets

Just think, once the ball is hiked cassel can wince around for 5-6 seconds then lob the ball to him as he is finished using his burners for the 5yard deep ball. If we get enough slow rbs/fbs we can move them to wr and go 4 wide.

The butthurt on this guy is pretty outrageous. Couple mil as a 4th WR - who gives a fuck? He's better than anything else they have. Damn good WR a couple years back, steady decline but hardly incapable. And yall know with Castle at QB there's not much chance he gets a look with Bowe to feed and then the other Bs, plus Moeaki, Boss and Charles in checkdown roles, aka Castle's favorite routes.

Every time I watched the Jets I didn't think Cotchery was that bad. I think they forced him out for no reason. If we were bringing him in to play the top 3 I would be hating this, but if we got a super-low contract for a 4th WR/SP player, I think Cotchery is alright. With 2 TE and two, maybe 3 quality RBs, I am not sure our 4th WR is going to see that much time. If they get him for the cheap I would be fine with this.

The Kansas City Chiefs locked up WR Steve Breaston to a five-year worth up to $25 million in the 2011 NFL free agency period.

Now we have some details of his contract.

We're told Breaston received $5 million to sign and a $700,000 base salary in 2011. His $1.8 million base salary in 2012 is guaranteed for injury only and he has a $1.3 million roster bonus in 2012. It appears the Chiefs could get out of this after one year and less than $6 million but I can't envision a scenario with that happening.
In 2013, his base salary is $3.8 million, in 2014 it's $3 million and in 2015 it's $4.1 million. He has $200,000 workout bonuses from 2012-2015 and $1 million reporting bonuses in 2014 and 2015. He has another $500,000 in escalators available each year from 2012-2015.

All in all, it looks like a good deal for both sides. Breaston gets the long-term security he was looking for and the Chiefs get the third receiver they were looking for.

Chiefs could catch Cotchery

Veteran receiver Jerricho Cotchery, who eventually assumed the Hines Ward role in the Steelers’ offense last year, could be finding a role in the Chiefs’ offense in 2012.

Cotchery, per a league source, visited Kansas City on Thursday.

An eight-year veteran, Cotchery spent seven seasons with the Jets before joining the Steelers in 2011. A full-time starter from 2006 through 2009, Cotchery could bring some extra toughness and reliability to the receiving corps, along with the kind of leadership qualities that will be missing if (as assumed) running back Thomas Jones doesn’t return.

Awesome. We need another Thomas Jones.

The guy can still stretch the field.
For a minimal contract you get a decent #3/#4 WR.
He's better than Copper.

Don't see why a younger guy couldn't fill this role.

There's a point where a team developes it's leaders instead of trying to bring them in through FA. This team should at that point. I won't mind if we sign Cotchery but but I don't it will be for leadership.

We've had younger guys in this role for several years. Cotchery is better than all of them.

True story.
Quinten Lawrence anyone?

And signing Cotchery doesn't mean you can't still draft a WR.

UPDATE 10:39 a.m. ET: A source with knowledge of the situation tells PFT that Cotchery actually visited the Chiefs earlier in the week. However, the official NFL documentation indicates that the visit occurred on Thursday.

What's wrong with adding experienced WR depth?

I think it would be a great signing. I'd still LOVE to draft someone like McNutt in the middle of the draft. But if we don't get that lucky to land someone good and young, we still have that veteran option.

I'd rather have them draft Marvin McNutt.

They can do both.

Someone needs to keep Baldwin in line, might as well be him.

We need to keep using the 4th slot on young WR's to continue looking for the hidden gem. Using it for a vet is a waste.

Jerricho Cotchery - WR - Steelers The Rams will host Jerricho Cotchery for a free agent visit next week.
The visit will begin on Tuesday, per the New York Daily News. Cotchery, 30 in June, would be another possession receiver to go along with Danny Amendola and Steve Smith. He is familiar with new Rams OC Brian Schottenheimer. Related: Rams
