View Full Version : Chiefs Chiefs don't impress FA's...?

So I'm listening to the radio on the way home and some guy calls in and said the Chiefs don't do things like send a jet to pick up a potential FA and such. I thought well, that's a possibilty then I hear Carr tweeted that what impressed him about Dallas was the sent a jet to get him with a big fat Dallas Cowboys star on the plane.

Makes me really wonder what kind of red carpet we do or don't roll out for these people?

I kinda wonder. I mean Winston is in town today. Did we even flip for the price of a 1st class ticket? I'd hope we at least sent a car to pick him up and I am sure we did that much....or I'd like to be.

I don't know about us, but it sounds like Carr is easily impressed. It's a plane with some blue paint in the shape of a star on it.

I am sure he was more impressed with a contract that said 5 yr, 50.1M

I don't know, all I can say is what he tweeted. But things like that do matter and shows the class of the organization. I don't think it would kill Clarkie Boy to send his jet to pick up someone we really are interested in. It shows you are interested. And ok, say you flip for a 1st class ticket. What's the other team doing? How bad do you want to sign someone like Winston? Is he worth a plane ticket or a ride in your personal jet?

Recall that Carr was a fifth-round pick, so he probably didn't get a whole lot of attention lavished on him when he was drafted, or as he was working his way up the ladder with the Chiefs. And since he didn't play at a big school, he probably didn't get wined and dined as a high school kid, either. This is probably the first time he's ever been given the red carpet treatment, so I can see how it would be quite flattering.

For guys like Manning who was the #1 pick in the draft, it's probably not a big deal. For guys like Carr, it is.

LOL...at least Pioli and crew are in town and courting FA's. Didnt Carl take vacations to Europe during FA? That seems to be my memory, anyway.

Most FA's in the market today are probably too young to remember the last time KC won a playoff game and that alone is a problem.

As long as the FA gets to keep the little shampoo bottles it's all good. That's wine and dine KC style.

i think every team pays for the player to visit

but i don't think we try to be flashy, in fact i think they go out of their way to be basic business-like.

Which is why the guys we end up with are usually described with things like:

"business-like"
"high motor"
"plays through the whistle"
"gives it 110%"

All code words for "he's not that talented".

That's great IF you are winning so much players want to come anyway but now it just makes us look like a small town team with no money.

No dipshit, they should have extended him last year or the year before, everybody knew he was gonna make bank if he hit free agency

the way things are looking,
we are gonna need another pro-bowl CB (and he will get pro-bowled in Dallas) when our starting QB throws a 17-yard "bomb" to the semi-stone handed wr we fucking franchised

More like not Physically gifted. Don't confuse talent for 6'5" studs who can jump over sky scrapers and outrun a cheetah.

Dudes who don't have to work on their craft to be good have had their dick sucked by everyone since Junior High or High School. Why would they want to come to KC when teams like DAL give better head and don't pout when you bust in their mouth?

Who is to say they didn't try. I keep hearing this argument that the Chiefs should never have let Carr hit free agency. The problem is that this is easier said than done. Carr even admitted in a recent interview that he was intent on testing free agency. The Chiefs can make all the offers they want. If Carr is intent on testing the waters, you won't get him to re-sign unless you blow him out of the water with Flowers-type money...

It's not the lack of bells and whistles...it's the lack of an NFL caliber QB that keeps FA away.

FA that want to win gravitate to teams that have a chance...w Hatt Castle we have no chance

I remember a story about the Patriots taking a player to a Ground Round or something. Their thinking was if the player needs to be wined and dined to be convinced to join the Patriots, he's not their kind of guy anyway.

I imagine Pioli feels similarly.

That is your (relatively worthless) opinion. My relatively worthless opinion is that it all depends on the player you're targetting. Remind me how successful Jerry Jones has been post-1994 or whatever, or Dan Snyder, ever, in turning their big free agent wining/dining/signings into playoff victories...
