That's the thing, people don't understand how close they really are to losing control of their vehicle. Far too many people underestimate the elements and think they're great drivers or some shit.

I know snow doesn't equal rain, but i constantly see people hauling ass through heavy downpours.

It seems like you have to crash before you realize how close you actually are to having those tires break loose.

I have, well I didn't quite see it happen but in Deerfield KS a pick up truck backed into a fuel truck & KAPLOWIE KER BOOM Ch KA! I was at home at the time & there was a large amount of smoke from the gas stop. I was there just about 5 min pryer to the explosion. There was nothing left of the pickem up truck. The cab of the simi was the only thing that survived & that truck driver lived. (rip driver of pickup) What an explosion. This video makes me want to just stay home and never drive again. That is really sad. :(

A few years back, a client of mine was driving in Omaha w/ her kids. Some guy ran a red light and hit them pretty hard. The sad part was her daughter had unbuckled her belt to get something just seconds before the impact. Her little girl was found on the road next to the bumper. She was still alive, but she was bleeding internally and they couldn't save her. :(

The guy wasn't a legal citizen and he didn't have a license. So he wasn't even suppose to be driving!! I'm not trying to send this to DC, but if illegals want to live here, they need to do shit by the books, get their citizenship, and learn the rules of the road! /vent

That brings some visceral flashbacks to returning home this last Christmas.
Decided to come back during the night, which was good from a traffic standpoint, but from Warrenton into St. Louis city proper, I was in the middle of a fairly strong storm that the trucks weren't out there salting or plowing for yet. Spent the entire drive white knuckling, constantly searching for the 'groove' where it was safe to roll. Plenty of spots with no good answers and just compensating like heck to keep from fishtailing. At one point I was all alone on a 6-lane highway doing 20 mph to stave off wheel spin.
Glad it was all divided highway with little traffic.

It shows in the video in the OP, but not in the GIF, that he skimmed over into the center slush. That'll drag the driver's side like if you stepped on the brakes and only the driver's side wheels reacted.

People with four wheel drive vehicles are just straight up hazards when it comes to driving in bad weather. Ice is ice, dumbass. It really doesn't matter how many of your wheels are "driving", and it really isn't sunny and 70 outside.

Truth. I remember reading some article talking about the psychology of your average person behind the wheel, and how they generally feel much more empowered by all the weight and power around them in a car. Take an SUV and multiply that by ten.

Great save by the white truck

http://www.dpccars.com/car-videos-12/02-28-12page-Worse-crash-ever.htm

It looks like the SUV was (drafting) behind the white truck and then pulled out in order to pass him.

the white truck could have sucked the air off the SUV as he pulled up alongside to pass causing the driver to lose control.

I think that shows that all involved were probably going too fast for conditions. The SUV was going too fast and lost control. That semi had to be going fast to just destroy the SUV like that.

Just look during the next snow/ice storm. A majority of the vehicles in ditches are 4WD because so many people buy them and think they are invincible. You have to understand how your vehicle responds and adjust to weather conditions.

Its more that they think because they have an SUV they can drive faster because they have more "control". It pisses me off to no end when I see SUV go flying by in conditions like that because they think the SUV is designed to work normally in that kind of weather. When it is slick and snowy you slow the hell down. I don't give a crap what you are driving.

Plenty of stupid truck drivers on the road too but for every 1 stupid truck driver there are usually 20 car drivers...

Truck drivers with lack of sleep are scary. I tend to agree they are good drivers though

If I was the judge I'd give him some sort of verdict along the lines of Guilty: Time Served.

That almost happened to me. I was on I-70 heading east between 291 and Blue Springs. I was in the fast lane with a semi in front of me and one next to me. I passed the semi in front of me on the right and as I accelerated I spun out of control when I hit black ice on a bridge overpass. I was spinning out of control and saw the headlights of the other semi bearing down on us. The hand of God, or luck, pushed us to the side of the road into the snow bank as the semi roared past us. Otherwise, it might have looked like that video. My life past before my eyes. Yes, I was a stupid 19 year old driving drunk.

That kid survived. You can see his body flying onto the freeway. I saw a show about this, something like "I Shouldn't Have Survived" or one of those shows

/vent

I'm sorry to hear that. Most people know what a red light means. It wouldn't have mattered if he had a license or not. Citizens drive without them all the time.

No, it wouldn't have looked like that video. Big difference in colliding with a vehicle going the same speed and direction as you than hitting one head-on.

bet the driver of that car caught in the middle didn't drive for a few days.

I'll bet he didn't poop for a week.

With all the dash mount cams, a lot of people just let them run every time they are in the car.

Probably a truck driver with a dash mounted cam, it's not uncommon these days

Plus in road conditions such as that i always drive in the right lane, never the middle. Lessons to be learned from such a tragic mistake.

Just like I told you guys before.. Following a truck to close and a recap goes through your windshield it can decapitate you. Same as riding beside a truck longer than you have to... Men teach the women in your life this as they are worst by far...

Get the hell away from trucks.

*Ahem* Ouch. Hey, douchebag... FTR, I have yet to be in a major accident and I'm always extremely cautious around semi-trucks and courteous to the drivers. So, um, kindly STFU.

Yeah, most people do, but from what I heard, he was "new" to the whole driving thing, (young kid). He was driving a buddy's truck to a job site or something. I never did find out what happened w/ the charges, but last I heard, they were just going to deport him back to Mexico.

Lucky for you, I'll keep my distance because I don't want your Raiders funk to rub off on me.

Yeah, you read that right... I don't want to smell like murder. That, and I had a Raiders fan ask me what time it was, but when I looked down at my wrist, my watch was gone.
