Manningham lands in San Francisco
Posted by Mike Florio on March 17, 2012, 11:30 PM EDT

Receiver Mario Manningham spent the first four seasons of his career catching passes from Eli Manning. Manningham could spend the next two catching them from Eli’s big brother.

A league source tells PFT that Manningham has agreed to terms with the 49ers on a two-year deal.

Manningham also had been in negotiations with the Rams.

The moves comes at a time when Peyton Manning is in the last days (we think) of selecting his next team. The finalists (we think) are the 49ers, Titans, and Broncos.

Manningham joins a depth chart that includes Michael Crabtree and Randy Moss.

In his final game with the Giants, Manningham caught a 38-yard pass along the sidelines on the first play of the Super Bowl-winning drive.

A third-round draft choice in 2008, Manningham has 160 career regular-season catches for 2,315 yards and 18 touchdowns

Peyton Manning would be an idiot to choose the Titans or Donks over SF.

If I didn't do it...someone else would have. Besides, we just signed Brady Quinn; so who cares.

No kidding. The bonus to this is I don't hate the 49ers. That will be a terrific team to watch this year aside from Chiefs games. Add PM??? *jizz*

It would seem they're doing everything they can to entice Manning. If it happens, we will still see Manning to Manningham this year....weird.

If SF signs Manning they instantly become the favorites to win it all in the NFC next year. They might have won it all last year with Alex Smith had their KR not screwed their chances.

If Manning goes to SF I'm convinced Harbaugh is the devil.

My wife is a 49er fan and I talked a lot of shit when we watched the Chiefs wack them at Arrowhead a few years back. I've been paying for my sins ever since :)

They are my second favorite team since I watch all of their games with her. They are definitely making some nice moves. If they land Manning somehow they will be hard to beat.

oh ya, totally forgot about that, they got screwed big time and that dude from the Ravens too. It probably should have been a Ravens vs 49ers Superbowl.

I hope manning goes to SF while the donks have missed out on free agency waiting on him

Thanks for the memories. I wish him the best.

Manningham is an inconsistent 3rd wide receiver that drops too many balls and gets confused running routes.

For every one ball he catches, he drops three.

Super Bowl XLVI crucial passes dropped by Manningham (Hakeem Nicks and Victor Cruz were double teamed by Patriots. Not only did TE Jake Ballard tear his ACL in the Super Bowl, so did his teammate TE Travis Beckum):

2nd Quarter
3-10-NYG 45 (4:18) (Shotgun) 10-E.Manning pass incomplete deep middle to 82-M.Manningham (29-S.Moore).

2-5-NE 38 (9:41) (Run formation) 10-E.Manning pass incomplete deep right to 82-M.Manningham.

4th Quarter
2-5-NE 38 (9:41) (Run formation) 10-E.Manning pass incomplete deep right to 82-M.Manningham.

3-10-NE 43 (9:35) (Shotgun) 10-E.Manning pass incomplete short right to 82-M.Manningham (29-S.Moore).

1-10-NYG 12 (3:46) (Shotgun) 10-E.Manning pass deep left to 82-M.Manningham pushed ob at 50 for 38 yards (25-P.Chung). New England challenged the pass completion ruling, and the play was Upheld. (Timeout #1.) Amazing catch

1-10- (3:39) (Shotgun) 10-E.Manning pass incomplete deep right to 82-M.Manningham.

Not to diminish Manningham since he left But he was a tad overrated. Good burner, but at often times invisible. This should have been his breakout year but he failed to do so.

Some of his biggest contributions this year was the drop in the Rams game which led to Hixon getting hurt. That enabled Cruz to get the nod and the rest is history.

The drop in the Dallas game that was a sure touchdown. It let the Giants milk out more of the game clock and make Dallas use up their timeouts.

I don't want to paint out Manningham as some shitty wideout, nor do I want to paint him as the savior. For all the good he does, he can also cause headaches.

49ers need better wide receivers. They have a great tight end, but they still need wide receivers.

They have an old Randy Moss, an oft-injured Michael Crabtree and Mario Manningham.

Just my opinion.

I think Peyton will choose the Titans.

Yeah, definitely see Manningham as overrated. Drops WAY too many balls. I haven't seen the contract yet, but hopefully SF didn't overpay. Manningham may stretch the field, but he is just as likely to drop the open catch as reel it in.

Didnt we see Manning to Manningham already for the past 4 or 5 years?
