Fucking Marty and Gunther, putting a price on quarterback's heads.

Gives me wood just thinking about it.

No wonder that D was like a pack of vicious bulldogs.

Not accurate.

The league already looked into things here in KC, and the punishment has been in play for a while.

The worst part about NO though is they put it writing and you simply can't do that. Some form of a bounty system is used everywhere IMO, but you cannot make it as blatant as NO did.

I think there are two distinct iterations of this bounty issue. Hard legal hits are one thing, trying to injure with ankle twists and the like in the pile is something different altogether.

True story from when I played high school football. We had a kid that was told by the coaches during a practice to go back to the locker room and grab the sack of penny's (the mesh sleeveless shirts to distinguish one team from another that you put over your pads), and it took him like 20 or so minutes. He finally came back with a sack full of pennies (the ones with Abe Lincoln on them). Haha. Whole team couldn't stop laughing and our coach clowned him the rest of the season.

Every team in the NFL and college has had bounties at some point. Football is a violent game. I'm so sick of all this PC shit.

I'm just not real clear on why millionaires need to pick up a few extra c-notes for doing the thing that they're paid lots of money to do in the first place.

But then of course in sales we have contests all the time - $500 to the salesman of the month, $100 to the top salesman on a big sale day. I suppose it's all relative.

Was it not Grunhard who stated in a radio interview, while he was still a Chief, that the players were told to smash Elway and the Broncos in the mouth and that the coaches would pay any fines? Sounds like a bounty to me....I am sure this bounty program was not started by the Saints in 09'...

Anyone who was a Chiefs fan in the Marty era should remember the Chiefs were investigated by the NFL for a bounty program. No suspensions, but rumor has it that Marty and the team both paid undisclosed fines. Marty once posted a bounty on his radio show.

Fan since 89' but did not know they were investigated about a bounty, good info, thanks! Did not get Directv until 1995 and well, the internet came later so I could only watch the Chiefs 4 times a year when they played west coast teams...
So I missed out on all the info. Like I said, I was sure the Saints did not blaze a new trail on this one, they just are the ones who are reaping the penalty...
