Mine was Cyndi Lauper, I was 13 and it was 1984 at Kemper Arena. I was so excited to go to my first concert. I don't remember much about it, but we were all really excited to see the opening act. They were some kind of 3 man rock/rap group that ended up doing ok... The Beastie Boys!

By myself (with friends): Nine Inch Nails, 13 years old, Kansas Expocentre in Topeka. This show included the Jim Rose Circus Sideshow.
Ozark Mountain Daredevils at Municipal. I was 15 and got a contact high. It was almost a fog in there!

15 years old, the Blute Note in Columbia MO.
Opening band was system of a down, 2nd was static X, then Hed PE, and the headliner was fear factory.
This of course was before system of a down or static X had released first albums etc. We actually went to see fear factory but static X and hed PE stole the show. System of a down actually got booed but we all enjoyed them. Stopped and talked with wayne static and koichi after the show, got autographs etc..
While we where messing around at the t shirt booths after the show we saw a 3 song demo TAPE they where giving away for free, snapped it up and where rockin Slipknot on the way home before anyone else in the area had even heard of them.
Man great times.

Motley Crue, Girls Girls Girls tour. Probably 14 or 15 at the time.
Tommy Lee was in a huge cage that raised up and spun around while he played. I remember him chugging a bottle of Jack before the long drum solo.
My sister and her boyfriend offered me a drag off their cigarette that I declined, and that I know in hindsight was not tobacco.

two great bands, Fastway was very underrated.
i saw AC/DC the first time in 1976 with UFO and this was before MTV and internet and did we get a shock when Angus kicked off the AC/DC set with a guitar solo and leaped off his Marshall stacks just as the lights came on, it was one helluva rockin show.

I was about 18 years old. Godsmack opened for Metallica in Fargo, North Dakota. I went up there with a buddy of mine whose girlfriend bought him the tickets.
It was awesome, Metallica was great. Godsmack did a damn good job too, but they did some weird shit with ****ing bongos and shit that left me scratching my head.
The bass solo from Robert Trujillo was ****ing mind blowing. He was absolutely awesome. And the drummer from Godsmack did an amazing job. He was awesome as well.

Late 90s.....can't remember how old I was since I can't recall the year for sure. Mom took me to see Stevie Nicks at Sandstone....damn good show as I remember it at the time. Though I probably only recognized maybe one or two of her songs. I was so young I just didn't know much about her. Looking back I realize how fortunate I was that my first concert was seeing somewhat of a "legend" live. Kinda a cool experience really.

Opening act was a little known band out of New Jersey...Bon Jovi
I (kinda) remember Jon Bon walking out in a hat that said "YOUR GUIDE" on it similar to the David Lee Roth version of (I think it was) California girls.
Jethro Tull, 1973, Baltimore Civic Center. I was in 8th grade, a friend's older brother took us. I wish I could sufficiently describe the way the show started. Suffice to say that the opening chords of Locomotive Breath are forever etched in my brain. And they're really, really loud.

1989, Summer concert at Six Flags Over Texas. The Bengals.
I don't remember much about the show. I remember not knowing what an encore was and starting to leave the first time they left the stage.
Mettalica. Kemper Arena. 1996. First non-country band concert I went to anyway. It was rather insane. I grew up a sheltered country boy, and had to listen to metal in secret so my parents wouldn't find out and throw my tapes away. That was also my first dabble with those rolled smokes that smelled funny. Eye opening evening to say the least...

The Browning Family. President hotel ball room. Can't remember the year for sure, probably 62 or 63 I'm thinking. Very talented, each member could play all the instruments. Was a pretty awesome show.

Mine was probably around 1999. KISS & Ted Nugent at Sandstone. I was friends with a girl in my townhouse complex, and her mom had an extra ticket so I went. I remember not really knowing anything about Ted Nugent, but he was by far the best part of the concert. He played like a 30 minute solo while performing Stranglehold, and afterwards he shot a fire arrow through his guitar or something.

First one I attended that wasn't under my control:
My parents used to drag me to "dusk to dawn" gospel concerts. Brutal. It wasn't so much the music, but it was outside and you would sit on bleachers at some rodeo stadium or something, and they went...wait for it...from dusk to dawn. So as a little kid I'd be up all night because you couldn't sleep and you were cold and bored and it may not be a coincidence that I'm not a churchgoer now.
The first one I attended involving celebrities that wasn't under my control.
My parents took us to a George Jones/Barbara Mandrell concert when I was about 12. Not really my kind of music, but Barbara played the saxophone.
The first one I attended involving celebrities that was kind of under my control.
REM in St. Louis upon request of a date. I like their music now but wasn't familiar with it then and was pretty meh about the whole experience. Also, I think some people had marijuana.
The first one I attended that I was excited about.
Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band reunion tour back in about 2000 or so. Wow. Awesome concert. I've seen his concerts on every tour since then, and am heading out of town this month just to go see his latest since he's not coming to Denver. Everyone should see a Springsteen concert at some point in their lives.

agreed. I've seen Aussie Pink Floyd 4 times, and my brother (who had seen PF at Arrowhead) said that in reality, APF probably plays the music better than the real thing.
My first concert was Def Leppard at Bramlage then it was years before I saw my next one - Aerosmith opening their world tour at the Kansas Expocentre in 1994.

August 24, 1997 (Age 13) Classic Rock Reunion concert at Sandstone
Starship, Head East, Doobie Brothers, Boston
I remember Boston being really good but don't really remember anything else.
Best concert I have seen would be Roger Waters a couple years ago in Omaha.
Second best was probably Radio Head down in Dallas a couple years ago or Neil Young at the Starlight Theater back in 2002. Smoked some opium with these guys from Joplin before the Neil Young concert started. Good times

My SECOND concert was more impressive:

That’s alright, I remembered that my actual first concert was in ’79, I think maybe '78, when my parents took me and sis to see the Oakridge Boys. Only thing I remember from it is that uhm-papa-mou-mou song.

The Mighty Mighty Bosstones at the Regency in Springfield '93 or '94, I was 14 or 15 cant remember. It was an 18 and up show but my brother was a bouncer and got me in early while everyone else was outside waiting in line...it made me feel cool. I was totally into it, jumped off the stage, crowd surfed and everything. It was by far the best time Ive ever had at a concert. The best pure performance Ive seen though was Marilyn Manson at the Shrine a few years later. It was the Antichrist Superstar tour...****ing amazing.

I love all those bands, that would have been a blast. They would all open for SOAD now though.

Don't think the concerts at the Jones County Fair that my parents took me to count. My first concert I went to was Stevie Nicks, probably around 1983. I remember singing along with every song, and she flubbed the first part of Leather and Lace. It got a horrible review in the school newspaper because the writer didn't like Stevie. She had another concert the next year for an album 'Rock a Little' which I didn't like, but that got a good review.

My first concert was supposed to be Yes at Kemper in 1979. Guess the rest of the story...
As best as I can reconstruct, my first concert was: Grand Slam Super Jam with Journey, Sammy Hagar, Shooting Star, April Wine, Judas Priest - Busch Stadium (St. Louis, MO) - June 29, 1980
Later that year I saw Shooting Star in Columbia MO; tickets were $2 if I recall correctly. Significant date: December 8.
I know I saw REO in concert (I want to say twice), but can't come up with the venue(s). Eagles and America at Kemper and some others than I am forgetting.

I was eleven, I think. I was a loser at school and I did the dorky die your hair blonde and wear white t-shirts thing when Eminem came out. He said something in a song about how he just found out his mom did more dope than he did, and I was like, wow, me too!
Eminem was coming to riverport in St Louis, and combining ticket cost with gas money and food expense, I needed about 150 dollars. I cleaned up my grandma's farmland for a month, working my ass off everyday. But I got to fucking go, my brother took me even though he thought rap was stupid.
It was great. I wasn't even close to being the only blonde kid, and eminem pointed in my direction during a song. I was truly in little white boy heaven in 2000.

Luckily I had done the Neil Diamond thing a few years before.....
But I am pretty sure I was at the same concert in Greensboro....I actually enjoyed the Geils Band better than Frampton and .38 Special, but the gal I was dating at the time couldn't quit swooning over Frampton and his long curly hair.
That's freaky.
BTW, Frampton gets a pass because he was really sick that night -- still went out and gave his best.
Geils was fantastic. This was before they become "poppish" with their early 80s MTV stuff. They were a meat-and-potatoes hard-rocking band.

Summer Jam (REO Speedwagon, Santana, The Little River Band, The Pat Travers Band) - Royals Stadium - September 1, 1979
Blue Oyster Cult with Foghat & Whitford/St.Holmes -
Kemper Arena - October 31, 1981 (2nd row, center. I remember the Godzilla creature behind the drummer and how one of my friends caught a drumstick.)
Rolling Stones with George Thorogood & The Destroyers - Kemper Arena
December 14, 1981 (3rd row. Snuck my camera in and still have a framed photo of Ron Wood I had taken at the concert. That photo won 1st prize for Color Photography at the time.)
I remember those being my first three concerts. As of this date, I've probably seen well over 500 shows in my lifetime. I've lost count. Still have ticket stubs to some of the biggest shows: Kiss, Rush, Van Halen, Grateful Dead, Bruce Springsteen, U2, R.E.M. Red Hot Chili Peppers, Tom Petty, and one of the best shows ever- Pink Floyd at Arrowhead Stadium.
Took a girlfriend to the Jacksons Tour at Arrowhead to appease her.
Some of the most memorable shows have been at the venerable Red Rocks Amphitheater. If you love a live show, you must put it on your bucket list to see one of your favorite artists at Red Rocks. It is unlike anything you've ever experienced. Super sweet place to watch live music.

Oh man, I remember that now!
What I remember most about that show was Santana. I thought they stole the show. They were perfect for an outdoor summer show.
I also remember the drunk guy and his girlfriend standing next to us. He kept looking up at the seats and it hit me he was thinking of how he had to walk all the way up there to take a leak. Instead, he whipped it out and started urinating next to me. His girlfriend stood in front of him trying to shield him begging him to stop while my friends and I laughed our asses off.
