Dorsey is gone after this season. Maybe earlier.

Brockers is a "once in five years" prototype. (Maybe more.)

If they dont' take Brockers, there is going to be a hole...

I have a feeling it is going to be between one of these three defensive players... Kuechly, Barron and Brockers. I've stayed firm that it is likely going to be Kuechly but as of last night and this morning I'm thinking it is going to be Brockers.

I just have this feeling we are going to see the end of Glenn Dorsey in KC and Pioli already has his replacement hand picked. With that said, with the way passing sub packages go, I see Kuechly/Barron as well. Problem is, I think we are going to trade down. Kuechly likely gone and I think we will be trading down with Dallas who wants Barron... leaving us with Brockers.

My insurance agent told me that if you live in SD every 71st person will hit a deer this year. Since you got one, that must leave me safe.

BTW - the only state with more automobile/deer mishaps - WV.

Both states need more mountain lions :).

Now, back to the draft...

It's gonna be Brockers.

I still don’t understand why people put any stock in what the media says.

I want DeCastro. With his attitude, he would make the guys around him better. He could be a hall of famer. The only hope for Cassel being effective is if he has the best O-Line in football. Charles and Hillis would destroy teams behind that line. (Assuming you re-sign Albert) You’d have your entire O-Line set for the next 4 or 5 years, and possibly the interior set for the next 10.

Here in NE WA, they reintroduced wolves and the deer population dropped considerably. Of course, so has some of the livestock and pets and you have to take a gun if you want to go hiking.

Back to the draft, too:

I'm hoping for Tannehill, Barron or Kirkpatrick but fully prepared to hate the actual pick.

Frosty

I'm still undecided as to which broadcast to watch. I switched to NFLN a few years ago but couldn't hack them last year and switched back to ESPN. NFLN would be better if it were just Charles Davis and Mike Mayock but they had to have Michael Irvin and Deon Sanders involved. Berman gets old on ESPN but the rest of them aren't too bad. ESPN's biggest problem is they want to make too much of a show out of it and the actual coverage suffers. However, they are only supposed to have one commercial break tonight (during the Chiefs' pick, of course), which would be nice.

Hmmm....

Direckshun

I know, but that is just being selfish. They will talk about those two guys all night long anyway.

This draft season is so much better than last year, though.

They'd have half-hour draft specials on ESPN and spend the first 20 minutes talking about Cam Newton.

Last year was probably the most exhausting draft season I'd been through just because ALL THE TALK was about Cam.

I think the media peaked on Luck a month ago. Now they just do their due dilligence with him and RG3 for a little bit, and move on.

HOF Guards FTW!!!

A HOF’er is a HOF’er.

Especially when it comes at a position of need, and looks to be a player that will give us immediate production, in a year that we are hoping to compete.

I’d love a QB as much as anyone, but we ain’t getting it, so might as well do everything we can to help Cassel. A strong O-Line and running game could return him to 2010 form, which was pretty much his ceiling.

ESPN's problem is they have to many talking head star players doing the draft... same issue NFLN has when they throw Deion/Irvin out there. I'd much rather both sets were filled with ex-GM/personnel people/scouts or ex-coaches.

Very quietly, the Kansas City Chiefs (http://www.nfl.com/teams/kansascitychiefs/profile?team=KC) have done a lot of work on receivers, and I hear they love Michael Floyd. I don't see Floyd getting beyond the 11th or 12th spot in this draft. Watch for Arizona to make a move. The Cards believe he is special and could form a ridiculous tandem with Larry Fitzgerald (http://www.nfl.com/players/larryfitzgerald/profile?id=FIT437493). If he's there around 10, Arizona is primed to move up.

That's what I'd tell you.

5T is an incredibly important position on a 3-4 defense.

Guard is... not that important of a position. And even then, surrounded with good talent, Lilja was part of the offensive line that led the NFL in rushing.

Lilja can be upgraded, but it's not pressing, and the upgrade there doesn't warrant #11.

I'm lukewarm on Brockers, but there's no doubt he's a perfect fit for this defense in ways Dorsey simply can't be. And won't be, in 2013.

I'm not opposed to Brockers. I'd just be really really underwhelmed, that's all.

If Tannehill is already off the board and no other big-time player from the top 10 has fallen to 11 (like Kalil) then if that's what the Chiefs have to do, I guess that's what they have to do.

I just hope they use the rest of the draft to get some really awesome players in depth positions of need: S, OLB, TE, OT, and RB to be precise.

Brockers plus maybe Trumaine Johnson, DeAngelo Peterson, Robert Turbin, Andrew Datko, an OLB somewhere... I'd be satisfied.

10 Top Drafts, 2008 - 2010

3. Kansas City Chiefs (2008)

Starters Found: Glenn Dorsey (DE), Branden Albert (T), Brandon Flowers (CB), Jamaal Charles (RB), Brandon Carr (CB) and Barry Richardson (T)

Contributions From: Brad Cottam (TE) and Will Franklin (WR)

Best Pick: Jamaal Charles

Summary: Wow. Six starters, most of whom have been so since Day 1. Finding one cornerback in a draft is rare, but to land two starters is near impossible. That alone makes the draft successful, but factor in landing a franchise left tackle and perhaps the most dangerous running back in the league? It makes you look past how Barry Richardson has played, and gets you looking at Dorsey for what he is: a player who may have been over-drafted but has become a seriously important part of their base package.

5. Kansas City Chiefs (2010)

Starters Found: Eric Berry (S), Jon Asamoah (G), Tony Moeaki (TE) and Kendrick Lewis (S)

Contributions From: Dexter McCluster (WR) and Javier Arenas (CB)

Best Pick: Eric Berry

Summary: Something of an asterisk on this class, because arguably the two best players have played one year’s worth of football in the NFL. Still enough was seen of Berry and Moeaki to back them, while the Chiefs also found late round starters in Asamoah and Lewis, both of whom have looked extremely comfortable on the field. Throw in Dexter McCluster and the excellent Javier Arenas (not just a fine punt returner but solid slot cornerback) and you’ve got a draft class that significantly upgraded the roster.

6. Oakland Raiders (2010)

Starters Found: Rolando McClain (LB), Lamarr Houston (DE) and Jared Veldheer (T)

Contributions From: Jacoby Ford (WR) and Stevie Brown (S)

Best Pick: Jared Veldheer

Summary: McClain hasn’t always impressed Raider Nation, but he’s performed well enough to be a success without having the kind of impact you might want from a Top 10 overall pick. The real stars of this class come later: Veldheer proving an absolute steal in the third and Houston being a constant producer since Day 1. While Brown wasn’t a stud and was eventually released, Ford has brought with him playmaking on special teams and offense that has made a real difference.

ROFL

You're wrong.

The defensive line faces systemic disadvantages in the 3-4 that no other position on a defense faces, with the possible exception of corner.

You're outnumbered, out-sized, and responsible for more space than your 4-3 counterparts. You have the size of a defensive tackle but you're not taking on smaller, less athletic, less talented guards and centers, you're taking on extremely athletic and more powerful tackles. And unlike the nose tackle, a great DE can stay in all three downs.

If anything, it's like the left tackle of the defense.

unless you are getting reggie white you might as well just get blue collar workhouse type guy in the middle rounds.

constantly flushing 1st round picks down the sinkhole 5tech position trying to find a guy that can overcome the inherent disadvantage that the scheme causes is just a waste.

Well you're shifting the argument.

I was debating whether 3-4 DEs are very important. So were you, until just now when you shifted to "should we spend our picks there rather than NT or QB."

The Steelers, Jets, Patriots... many 3-4 teams flush 1st round picks at the DE position, because it's incredibly important.

not trying to shift anything

All positions are important but it's also position relative.

Why take a 5tech in the 1st round and maybe improve your defense a fraction when you could take another position where you could improve your TEAM a bunch?

when shooting for the moon i would rather draft 5tech in the 2nd/3rd round and hope we hit instead of flushing first round picks and huge money down the drain hoping we find reggie white.

St. Louis already fixed that problem. Indy will have to make do for now with their outstanding franchise QB (fucking Colts). Minnesota got kinda screwed in this deal. Report: Morris Claiborne is No. 1 player on Vikings draft board

Posted by Evan Silva on April 26, 2012, 4:09 PM EDT

Citing a source with knowledge of the situation, NFL Network’s Steve Wyche reports that LSU cornerback Morris Claiborne is the No. 1 player on the Vikings’ draft board, and they are “leaning toward” drafting Claiborne with the No. 3 overall pick in the draft.

Per Wyche, the Vikings also “like [Claiborne] more” than USC tackle Matt Kalil.

Appearing on ESPN’s NFL Draft Special Thursday, Adam Schefter seemed to agree with the notion that Claiborne is the favorite to be drafted with the third overall pick.

“There seems to be a feeling that they might be leaning toward Morris Claiborne while still considering Matt Kalil,” Schefter said.

The Vikings’ priority remains trading down, but if they stick to their draft board, Claiborne will be the third pick in the draft and a mini-slide could be in order for this year’s top-rated offensive tackle.

Rick Spielman is the dumbest motherfucking GM if he takes Claiborne. That's saying a lot considering who is running the show in Miami.

An ex-Viking player (Mike Morris) hosts a morning talk show here in the Cities, and he's very well connected to the team. I believe he's 8-for-9 in predicting the Vikings 1st round pick, with the one miss being due to a team trading in front of them and taking their pick. This morning he said he has it on extremely good authority that the Vikings will take Kalil, outside of a trade offer they can't refuse.

Take it for what it's worth, but he has a great track record...

There is some rumblings KC is targeting ILB in the 1st. Basically leaves it to two guys... Luke Kuechly or Donte Hightower. Just depends if we stay pat at #11 or trade back?

I think they're trying to convince TB to trade up to 3 for the guy they really want, Claiborne. Browns aren't taking Kalil and probably won't trade down, so Vikes know they'd still get Kalil at 5. Can't fault them for trying.

On Rotoworld:

"The Lions offered their first-, second-, and fourth-round picks in last year's draft in an effort to trade up for Patrick Peterson.
The Cardinals declined, but Detroit's aggressiveness to acquire secondary help last year speaks to the team's realization that cornerback remains a major problem area. NFL Network's Jason La Canfora has reported that the Lions are trying to trade up for South Carolina CB Stephon Gilmore. Detroit may have to come up with an offer similar to last year's Peterson proposal, because the Lions draft later this year and Gilmore is a projected top 10-12 pick."

I assume we'd all be fine with a trade down to 23 and pick up another 2nd and perhaps a 5th? Could still get Hightower there most likely, right in front of Pitt.

I'd rather get someone who will be an anchor at their position unless it is a stupid level of picks -- which we may get.

Personally, I think DeCastro, Barron, or Keuchly would address positions of need and give us strength at those positions. At 23? Who knows...
