View Full Version : Life What was your style in high school?

We were getting the worst pizza thread off topic so I submit this.

I was a total child of the 80's but not as Michael Jackson or MC Hammer. More Bender meets David (The Breakfast Club meets The Lost Boys)

Ripped jeans, long black overcoat, gloves with the fingers cut off, black boots with a chain wrapped around the neck... around the bottom... and back up... plain white t... mullet, earring... usually a dangly one... beard or 5 o'clock shadow... you get the picture.

I had one pair of jeans than was covered in band logos in black sharpie that I drew on myself. I ripped the zipper out and attached them with saftey pins. Pain in the ass when you have to pee btw. Another pair I ripped out about every two inches up and down the legs, front and back. You couldn't really wash those or they'd get too tangled up.

I also painted my fingernails black much of the decade and often wore some type on banadana.

I was pretty much the shit. Most girls wouldn't date me but the cool ones would. Funny thing is by the time I was in college in '88 and still dressing like that I dated a girl from my high school who dressed conservatively.... but she knew me and knew I wasn't a weirdo deep down. We dated for 2 years in fact. Besides I was just taking 80's style to an extreme.

What were you like in your "glory days."

Man, it was bad. My dad was a deadbeat and my mom was raising 3 of us boys on a shit wage, so it was either clearance crap, 1/2 Price Store crap, or hand-me-downs from my older brother.

97-01 I would dress like a rock star in the late 90's. It was because I was in a few bands over the years in high school and I was always wearing baggy pants/shorts and shirts and my hair always was changing. Started out in a punk band so I had those chains on the wallet and spikes on the shoes, belt, and watch. Then moved on to a metal band and was wearing those adidas track pants with a vulgar shirt trying to make my presence known. lol

I've got some pics of myself around my house somewhere. They are pics that my dad had collected over the years. My brother grabbed them for me when my dad passed away. Mid 1970s: We wore big smith overalls with flannel shirts and suede sneakers, like Converse or Pumas. Also skinny ties. Bell bottoms were out, straight legged jeans back in. Guys who played basketball wore socks that went all the way up to just below the knees. Baseball was stirrup socks pulled high and undershirts with colored sleeves under the jersey.

I guess my style in HS was a cross between grunge and goth. I had short, jet black hair, wore tight jeans tucked into mid-calf black boots, and usually wore a solid black shirt w/ a plaid short over it.

I dated a few guys w/ a similar style up until I met a sexy jock that went to a different school. Because of him, I toned down my style quite a bit and became a Chiefs fan. We eventually got married, moved out of Kansas, bought a house, and started a family. :)

Levi 501's held up with a belt that sported a big ass buckle of either Led Zeppelin or Rush plus the latest concert t-shirts with red converse tennis shoes.Had very long and wavy hair and was generally stoned most everyday of high school.

I did own a lime green leisure suit though with the heels to go with it and even a choker, when I wasn't rocking at a concert I would actually dress up and go out dancing to the groovy sounds of Kool & The Gang,The Ohio Players and the like. :D

In HS I'd have to say my style was almost business casual, only I didn't tuck in my shirts and wore tennis shoes. Even had a pair of these bad boys, lol

hahaha I thought the same thing (I love that movie - I love Star....)

levis, t-shirts (mostly concert shirts) and chuck taylors. 20 years after high school I was still sporting the same crap....until about 3 years ago when all the young punks starting buying concert t-shirts at ****ing walmart and sporting chuck taylors.

I was in high school 1980-84. The first three years were in a very preppy suburb of Rochester, NY.

Some days I was preppy -- oxford shirts or polos, jeans, Sperry Topsiders, sweaters with turtlenecks.

Other days I was rock T-shirt underneath an open flannel long-sleeve shirt, jeans, and either tennis shoes or Topsiders.

Hair was straight ... long bangs, over the ears, below the collar.

Freshmen year, it was whatever, Crue t shirt with khaki's & kung-fu shoes from the chinese shop in the mall, those shoes were the SHIT for a while with me.

Sophomore on, rock & roll really took over, ripped levi's, wrestling shoes like Vince Neil wore onstage, concert t's, earrings, long hair (no mullet), bracelets, the works.

But i never confined myself to one clique, i've always been proud of that, if i liked you, i didnt give a damn what your group was or what group i was, i weaved between just about all of the cliques... hang with the stoners at lunch, go to a football team party that night.

that's pretty much the way it was for me in HS (in the late 80's). Guys are pretty much guys and even though I played sports it's not like those were the only guys I hung out with. The thing that always brought me together with the stoners, headbangers and punks, etc. was music and talking about music (and partying).

Now girls are different. The bad clicks in my HS were the girls. Girls just don't like other girls.

Close to this. Long hair, (all the way around; no mullet), tight 501's, Megadeth, Metallica, Maiden, Slayer, Overkill, Primus, NIN, Obituary-type t-shirt (no exceptions. Ever.)

Leather jacket with sleeveless denim jacket over top with Metallica "Kill em All" backpatch. Had a regular jean jacket too with a Maiden "Aces High" backpatch. High top Reeboks untied with the tongue hanging out. Always had a bag and a hackey sack in my pockets. Wore anywhere from 5 to 8 necklaces of differing length and material.....girls would make me shit and I'd wear it. I had alot of biker style rings that I wore too.

Didn't really care about fashion. Still don't. My class had a total of 27 kids, all basically dirt poor so we wore what our parents could afford. However, I did care about my hair. Up until my freshman year, my Dad made my brothers and I wear crew cuts. Finally, in my freashman year '72 my my Mom convinced him to let us grow our hair. I wore it shoulder length and I thought I was the shit. Still keep it longer than normal, just because I can.
