View Full Version : Food and Drink If you had to eat the same meal every day for the rest of your life...

What would it be?

Topic of conversation at work today that got pretty interesting.

There's obviously a lot of good choices but if you had to pick only one full meal... what is it. It took me a little bit to come up with the things I get the least sick of because you're going to get sick of them anyway in this scenario.

Buffets and "one of everything" is off limits... cheating. Also don't say "Mexican" Simply Red. One meal... salad/appetizer... main course... drink... dessert

I'd have...

-A salad with iceberg lettuce, Italian dressing, green olives, shredded Monterray Jack cheese, bacon bits and dill pickle

-A grilled cheeseburger on a wheat bun with dill pickle slices, mustard, A-1 and a couple jalepeno slices... corn on the cob, buttered and salted... buttery brussel sprouts... as my main course

-Iced tea, unsweetened

-a chocolate shiver with mini M&M's for dessert from TCBY

I'd skip the dessert sometimes but it would be available. I guess that's another stipulation... you don't have to eat everything every time but what you pick is all that's available.

Go/discuss... be as specific as possible.

Appetizer: my homemade egg rolls

Main course: Spanish rice: onions, green pepper, hamburger, rice, tomatoes, Worcestershire sauce, tobasco, thyme, and chili powder.

Dessert: Rhubarb pie with vanilla ice cream, but I wouldn't eat it most days.

Drink: Black coffee

Apps: Crab cakes, oysters on the half-shell (shucked by somebody else)
Course 1: Crawfish bisque
Course 2: Wedge salad loaded heavily with bacon, cheese, sprouts, and slathered in a fruity vinaigrette.
Course 3: Surf & Turf -Kobe beef tenderloin with pan-seared scallops and lobster tail. Sides: Cheesy spinach, sweet potato, bacon-wrapped asparagus, peaches and cream Iowa corn on the cob
Desert: Snickers pie and pistachio ice cream
Drink: Since I'd like some variety I'm going to cheat and say Sam Adams Seasonal even though none of them are near the top of my list, Sam Adams does have a healthy seasonal offering that offers plenty of drinkable variety. Is that totally cheating?

Appetizer: mozzarella sticks with marinara.

Main course: grilled cheeseburger with a side if fries from Longhorn steakhouse. Would also have the works with it such as bacon, lettuce, mayo, tomato, onions, pickles, ketchup and mustard. I don't actually eat onions, pickles, mustard, mayo or even really bacon but I could do different combinations to make the meal taste different day to day.

Drink: Dr. Pepper, fountain style all the way.

Dessert: probably a vanilla sundae with whipped cream, hot fudge, brownies, and Hershey's syrup. I would also request a glass of milk so I could turn it into a milkshake occasionally.

app - fresh oysters on the half shell and a arugula salad with tomatoes, bean sprouts and carrots with balsamic vinegar

dinner - porterhouse, med rare, brown rice, broccoli and squash with some butter.

dessert - an orange and a kiwi fruit followed by a multi vitamin.

I'm not sure if one could survive just on that nutrition, but I think would out last you all. The oysters would be my choice anyways, I could eat those all the time.

I get the rules they just make no sense. Usually this preceded by 'if you were stranded on a desert island' scenario with some kind of limitations to your actions. Does Dr. Evil pick your name out of a phone book like the sniper from "the jerk" and decide to have 2 of his henchmen follow you around for the rest of your life making sure you order the 'chocolate shiver with mini M&M's' for dessert from TCBY but not the banana split?

This is like a scene in the old James Bond movies where death and torture is exaggerated but spans out over 75 years instead of 20 minutes.

This is silly. Silly I say.

Since noonan took away my brilliant 'one of everything' response, I'll assume that the meal has to constitute a typical caloric intake and that I have to think about my health. With those two rules, and assuming that I can cheat a little as described below, I would go with:

Mixed green salad with tomatoes, carrots, orange bell pepper, and honey mustard dressing.
White rice
Citrus-baked chicken
Side of salted cashews
Side of pineapple
Side of mandarin orange slices
Side of apple
Side of raisins
Mid-sized block of extra sharp cheddar cheese
Small loaf of freshly baked white bread
Big dollop of butter
Apple jelly
2 corn muffins
Serving of broccoli
Corn on the cob
Grape juice
Chocolate milk (for dessert)
Lemon meringue pie

With this meal, I can mix and match. Sometimes I'd put the chicken and sides in the salad and make a chef salad. Other times I'd put some of the sides in the salad and some on the chicken and rice. Sometimes I'd put the cheese on the salad, sometimes on the chicken, sometimes on the bread, sometimes on the broccoli. The broccoli could be either a side dish or I could put with the chicken and rice. I think I could give myself some variety with this meal.

Sometimes I'd put the cheese on the salad, sometimes on the chicken, sometimes on the bread, sometimes on the broccoli. The broccoli could be either a side dish or I could put with the chicken and rice. I think I could give myself some variety with this meal.

Wow that is like a mean@10, NTTAWWT actually that is one epic meal.

Every day forever? Man, I love that stuff, but after a week I'm pretty sure my entire digestive system would be reduced to flaming toxic goo.
