Holy shit. Vince McMahon is trending on Twitter right now. In reference, of course, to the Montreal Screwjob (Survivor Series '97) in which Bret Hart was ([likely] non-scripted) screwed out of his title when Vince McMahon made the referee call for a submission ending to the match when Hart did not tap-out (in order to prevent the small chance of Bret Hart, whose contract was expiring in a matter of days, from taking the title with him to rival WCW).

I am a sports fan in general.....Boxing, MMA, NFL, NBA, etc.. Tonight was the most dishonest call I have ever seen in the years I have been watching pro sports. When I heard 115-113 I almost fell outta the damn chair! I would say 98% of people couldn't be wrong about the result, but yet the judges or rather Vegas still finds a way to fudge this up! WOW thats messed up!! Even Bradley himself said after the fight "I'll have to look at the tape to see if I won." That comment by itself, shows that he knows he lost. I mean, just look at the damn compubox numbers! I cannot imagine anyone anywhere, even Bradley's loyalest fans, thought he won this fight. He certainly didn't and I think the best thing he did was not claim he had. Horrific judging! I've seen robberies, but this was of the obscene type that just screamed "FIX".....and for me personally, any small bit of credibility that boxing still had left, just went right out the window.

FYI, I heard the rematch will be held at Wrestlemania next year!

Top Rank's Bob Arum, who promotes Pacquiao and Bradley, was stunned. He said he had it 118-110 for Pacquiao.

"When I came into the ring [after the fight], I said to Tim, 'You did very well,' and he said 'I tried hard and I couldn't beat the guy. You talk about killing boxing. Even [Bradley's manager, Cameron Dunkin] had it 8-4 for Pacquiao.

"Something like this is so outlandish, it's a death knell for the sport. This is f------ nuts. I have both guys, and I'll make a lot of money in the rematch, but it's ridiculous. You have these old f---- who don't know what the hell they're looking at. It's incompetence. Nobody who knows anything about boxing could have Bradley ahead in the fight."

...The CompuBox statistics favored Pacquiao, who landed more punches than Bradley in 10 of the 12 rounds. Pacquiao landed 253 of 751 punches (34 percent), while Bradley landed 159 of 839 (19 percent). Pacquiao also landed 82 more power shots (190-108).

It is growing all the time. You can enjoy it on ESPN all day today. A friendly (not even a real game) outdrew a Stanley Cup game on TV just last week. The domestic league is growing by leaps and bounds. Right here in the midwest in KC the team's average attendance is bigger than there are seats in the stadium. And its not only very popular with kids but older kids...very Gen Y. 2nd most popular sport amongst those 12-24.

And its not only very popular with kids but older kids...very Gen Y. 2nd most popular sport amongst those 12-24.

Get used it and enjoy.

Still won't break the big 3 in the USA, will never even come close. It will always be a niche sport. I loved playing it as a kid and I have taken in 2 games over at Livestrong sport, but it is unfortunately a 2nd tier sport.

What "niche" would that be exactly? Its not only regionally popular like hockey and the demographics of the fans are very wide ranging. The jump from nobody cares to not being one of the Big 3 is a hilarious one. Nobody is saying the MLS in the NFL.

Not bad for a league only 17 years old. Hasn't even been through a fan demographic cycle.

That is what Pacquiao gets for delaying the start of the fight with his "screw you guys, I'm watching basketball" bullshit.

That was part of the contract. It wasn't some last minute decision to wait for the basketball game to be over. Now, the going and stretching his calves on the treadmill after the game, that's a different story.

Interestingly enough the MLS is working to draw in fans that from what I have read of your posts fit your description right now. US based international soccer fans who didnt feel at all compelled to watch the MLS or were unimpressed by it. It is a league that is turning the corner. Of course a lot goes into liking a team I am lucky to have one in my back yard.

I tried with soccer. I was forced to live in europe for years and I'd watch their soccer games and in the end I'd end up half asleep. It's an incredibly tedious sport because of the massive field and certifiable flopping. Euro's and Africans get steamed up for it because of the history and matches between little shthole countries more than the actual sport itself.

It was a horrible decision, but they have bad, game-altering calls in every sport. This one? An epic failure. No doubt about it.

LAS VEGAS – It was unfair, unjust and just plain wrong. But, contrary to what many might say, this was no bad night for boxing.

Timothy Bradley's controversial split-decision victory over Manny Pacquiao on Saturday in their World Boxing Organization welterweight title fight at the MGM Grand Garden was one of the best things that could have happened for the sport.

Timothy Bradley (L) hugs Manny Pacquiao after the decision is read. (Getty)

It was a fast-paced, back-and-forth scrap between a pair of quality boxers at the peak of their professions.

That Bradley won a decision the vast majority of those in attendance and watching on television around the world thought was laughably wrong is hardly the "death knell" for boxing that promoter Bob Arum said it was seconds after the verdict was read.

Controversy sells. The bigger the controversy, the bigger the rematch.

This rematch will be bigger than Saturday's bout by a wide margin. Bradley will become a star; he's already a charismatic guy who performed well when he finally got his chance on the big stage. And Pacquiao's legion of fans will rally to his support, believing he was wronged and demanding justice in a second fight.

"Some rounds, I took off and relaxed and didn't throw so many punches," Pacquiao said. "I could give him three rounds, and almost every round I hurt him. I know he felt that."

[Kevin Iole: Timothy Bradley beats Manny Pacquiao in controversial split decision]

Judge Jerry Roth had it 115-113 for Pacquiao, but he was overruled by his counterparts, C.J. Ross and Duane Ford, who had it 115-113 for Bradley. Ross gave Bradley the final three rounds and five of the last six. Ford scored five of the last six for Bradley as well.

Yahoo! Sports had it 117-111 for Pacquiao. The vast majority of reporters covering the fight at ringside had it for Pacquiao, the No. 2 fighter in the world in the Yahoo! Sports rankings. HBO's Harold Lederman, a former professional judge, scored it 11 rounds to one for Pacquiao.

Arum was outraged, at one point referring to the judges as "The Three Blind Mice," while he was introducing Pacquiao at the post-fight news conference.

"Can you believe that?" Arum said. "I had it 10-2! After I got into the ring after the fight, I went over to Bradley and said 'You did very well.' He said, 'I tried hard, but I couldn't beat the guy.' This is crazy. You talk about killing boxing? All three scorecards you throw out."

It was unfair to Pacquiao, who deserved to win.

But bad for boxing? Not in a million years. More people were talking about the fight when it ended than would have been had Pacquiao gotten the wide verdict most had expected.

[Related: Yahoo! Sports crew reacts to controversial Bradley- Pacquiao decision]

It's created a lucrative rematch for November and helped turn Bradley into a star.

Even to those who felt Pacquiao won, there had to be a respect for Bradley, who fought a spirited, high-paced battle despite injuring both of his feet. He attended the news conference in a wheelchair.

"Going into the last rounds, my corner was telling me I had to win the last couple of rounds to win the fight," said Bradley, who said he felt something snap in his left foot in the second round and injured his right in the fifth.

The only loser in the event was probably the state of Nevada, which likely won't get the opportunity to host the rematch. Arum said the rematch will be held in a "non-tax state," meaning it's likely headed to Texas.

That will cost Nevada millions in tax income, but the impact of not having the fight in the state is the only bad thing to come out of the fight.

Arum called the scoring "unfathomable" and offered to get the judges medical assistance.

"I have best eye doctor in the world," Arum said. "Let's get them on a plane, fly to Los Angeles and I'll pay for their visit."

[Related: Timothy Bradley attends post-fight press conference in wheelchair after win]

The perception that the sport is corrupt won't help, but there is so much of that surrounding boxing and its judging that it's more like white noise than a serious issue for the sport.

Bradley trainer Joel Diaz said he had no doubts that his fighter would be given the decision and expressed surprise at the outrage against the scoring.

"Don't blame that on Timothy," Diaz said. "He went out and fought. That's what he did. They had three judges to score it. I thought he won the fight. I wasn't scoring it, because I was watching the fight, but he won it in my mind. No doubt. But it's not his fault what the judges said."

Even Pacquiao, who said he thought he won "100 percent," wasn't down. He was smiling and affable at the post-fight news conference and, notably, didn't have a mark on his face for the first time in years.

"Don't be discouraged about boxing," Pacquiao said. "There's always next time."

The next time will be Nov. 10. There will be a huge paid gate. There will be a massive pay-per-view buy. The media will debate the fight endlessly.

That's not bad for boxing by any stretch of the imagination.

I said the very same thing in an earlier post.

The most liberal judge in Boxing could only have given him four rounds.
I had it 10-2 (in favor of Manny).

This was an absolute sham of a decision.

Bradley was beaten soundly.
Pacquiao made the mistake of delaying the fight and taking his foot off the pedal in two or three rounds.
But he still clearly beat Bradley in that fight.
And I'm not even a fan of Pacquiao's. I wanted Bradley to win the fight legitimately. Fact is, he didn't.

I hope Pacman stops Bradley in the next fight just to drive the point home.

well crap....you beat me to it. since the moment that fight ended I kept thinking what a huge controversy the Leonard/Hagler was. sometimes my friends and myself still argue about it....to this day! in a perfect world Hagler wins.....BUT....I'll bet compubox numbers would say Leonard landed more punches.....BUT....Haglers punches had so much more FORCE behind them.....BUT....Leonard would wade in and throw a flurry of 20 or 30 and it LOOKED really cool....BUT....those flurrys didn't even phase Hagler....

I say Hagler won. but at least with that fight you CAN actually make a decent argument either way.

the fight we're talking about in this thread....there is no justification. it is simply and completely illogical.....unless it was somehow fixed. it's science bitches! :D

Bradley receiving death threats

The fact that Timothy Bradley feels that he won his controversial bout against Manny Pacquiao shouldn’t be a surprise. No one expects Bradley to go around telling people that he won a fight that he shouldn’t have. So when Bradley joined ESPN Radio Chicago with Waddle and Silvy on Thursday to talk about the aftermath of the fight, it’s clear that Bradley really believes that his victory was deserved.

Bradley talked about how his corner felt he won the fight, as well as how when he heard the third judge's scorecard, he knew he had won. But everything hasn’t been peachy keen for Bradley after his victory -- he’s received death threats as a result of the win.

How he thinks he fared in the fight against Pacquiao:

“I fought my fight. I fought the best I could that night given my injuries but I’m not the one to blame. I’m not the one to blame for the results. The judges saw the fight the way they saw the fight and that is that. They had some really professional judges out there and some really good judges out there and Duane Ford is one of the best judges out there and he picked me. What do you want me to do? I thought the fight was close after the fight. I wasn’t sure if I won it or not. I was like ‘I’m in Vegas and never know how the judges are going to judge it. I know the fight’s really close.’ My corner was telling me ‘you won the fight, you won the fight’ and that was the reason they raised me up after the fight. I felt that I won the fight. I started hearing the actual scoring. The first one said ‘Pacquiao,’ second one was for me, I heard the same 15-13 and I was like ‘oh yeah I’ve got this without a doubt’ and you saw me raise my hands up before the last score and then boom I knew. There were some people sitting ringside that thought I won the fight and a lot of people didn’t feel like I won the fight and it is what it is. I think they were pretty much focused on Pacquiao and didn’t really focus on what I was doing in there. The judges were clued in and focused on the fight and they scored the fight according to what they saw.”

On the death threats that he has been receiving:

“Definitely on Facebook and Twitter, reading people’s comments, e-mails and people are sending me like death threats, telling me to die, telling me to give the belt back, ‘if you’re a man’ and all this hate mail. Just people being really rude like I’m the one to blame. ‘If you’re a real champion and want any respect from me then you’d give the belt back.’ I’m like ‘dude I earned the belt and I’m not giving the belt back.’ Anybody out there that thinks I should give the belt back, the belt is not going back. I deserve the belt. I won the fight regardless of what anyone thinks. The judges thought I won the fight and that is that. I’m not the one to blame here. Don’t be pointing the finger at me, don’t be sending me crazy e-mails and things like that because I really don’t care.”

Like we said earlier, it’s not surprising that Bradley is now saying he felt he won the fight, but we all know this isn’t going away anytime time soon. Bradley may have to prove it again in the ring before people even think about considering that he really beat Pacquiao last Saturday

WBO scores fight for Pacquiao

The WBO completed its review Wednesday of Timothy Bradley's controversial split-decision victory against Manny Pacquiao with its five-member international judging panel all scoring the fight for Pacquiao, even though the official result will stand.

Pacquiao told The Associated Press from the Philippines on Thursday that he would prefer a rematch rather than Bradley giving up the WBO welterweight title that he won on a split decision because "people may think I just usurped it."

Bradley's victory on June 9 instantly became one of the most controversial decisions in boxing history. While judges Duane Ford and C.J. Ross both had Bradley winning 115-113, Jerry Roth scored it 115-113 for Pacquiao, who suffered his first defeat since 2005.

"My supporters shouldn't worry. We're going to get that title," said Pacquiao, who has the option of an immediate rematch with Bradley in his contract.

The HBO broadcasters and nearly every media member at ringside had Pacquiao winning. The crowd at the MGM Grand booed the decision heavily and there was fan outrage around the world from people believing Pacquiao clearly had won.

In the aftermath of the fight, WBO president Francisco "Paco" Valcarcel, whose organization sanctioned the title match, said he would have five judges review the video of the bout. On Wednesday, the results of that review were released. The five judges, whom Valcarcel said are accomplished judges with world title experience -- but whose names were not disclosed -- scored the fight for Pacquiao, 118-110, 117-111, 117-111, 116-112 and 115-113

Valcarcel said the WBO has no authority to change the result. But given the outcome of the panel's review of the fight, he will order a rematch if Top Rank promoter Bob Arum declines to put on a second fight, or if Pacquiao opts not to exercise his rematch clause.

Top Rank and Pacquiao, however, simply could move on to another fight that just would not be for the WBO title.

"We can't change the result but we did this review for two reasons," Valcarcel told ESPN.com. "If they want to make a rematch, we will approve the rematch and if they don't, we will order one. Also, we wanted to show (the Nevada State Athletic Commission) that they could bring in other officials from outside of Nevada who can also do a fine job judging fights. It's good to have different officials."

Nevada generally selects officials from its own pool of in-state judges.
"We want to work together with Nevada and we think they should be open to other good officials from around the world," Valcarcel said. "But we are not questioning the honorability of the judges who scored the fight for Bradley. They are honest people. They are good officials, too, but I don't know what happened."

Valcarcel, who was ringside for the bout, said he scored it for Pacquiao, "but we have to respect the judges."

Bradley like the first fight didnt have the skill he only had the heart. He went in with a crazy wild style plan and it didnt work, when he got tired in the 6th, it was easy winnings for Manny. Bradley has a hell of a chin though. Watch the Prodnikov fight.

Because of stupid promoters, we'll never see Mayweather v. Pacquiao...shame.

I'll be honest, in the era of MMA, I don't think I've watched a boxing match in a long, long time. This was entertaining.

Pacquiao, a couple months ago, requested a fight with him in which the earnings of both fighters would go to charity... LMAO Yeah, like Floyd "Money" Mayweather would agree to something like that.

It's not just because of Promoters. Mayweather hasn't wanted it.

This...and he keeps coming up with pathetic excuse after pathetic excuse and is always trying to arrogantly shift the blame towards Pacquiao. Ridonkulous.

They both didn't want it, at least not bad enough to make it happen.

I thought most of the fight Pac looked quick - but on a few occasions he looked his age. Overall though - solid fight to watch.

I think Mayweather wants to retire undefeated and he knows if he fights Pacquiao that he runs the risk of losing.

He very well may. I'm sure Mayweather will wait until Pacquiao looks horrible then jump all over the fight. Too many excuses. Just make it happen.

Bradley was up on my scorecard going into Round 6.
From there on he freelanced and brawled, but was mostly ineffective.

He landed a huge right hand in the 4th or 5th round, but never followed up. That was his best chance to win the fight.

After Pacquiao realized Bradley didn't have the power to stop him, he settled in, and cruised. Not sure why Bradley didn't just box from Round 6 on. Had he done that, I think he might've won the fight. He was active early and often and made Manny miss quite often late in rounds.

Good fight for Pacquiao. He won easily, but this fight says nothing at all about his being ready for a Mayweather bout. He was much too hittable and his hand speed just didn't look the same. PBF will pick him apart.

again - Mayweather would probably actually knock him out.

no he wouldnt. It would go 12 rounds if anything. FLoyd doesnt knock people out anymore and hasnt for a while outside of that ortiz circus. While floyd is a great boxer, he's not a knock out fighter.

Pac will get hit a TON more than vs. Bradley - and he got hit a good amt. last night - Yeah you're probably right - but Pac had best defend better - if they're to fight.
