And by done, I mean still making music.

This music.

They will make more money on this one song, than on any previous album.

They said **** street cred, we want on the radio.

They always put out some pretty "poppy" punk, but that's over the top. The autotune makes me want to kill someone.

Yeah, it seems they could have done this same song without adding so much pop to it.

I could never stand the singer's voice.

That song sounds it was made for a movie starring Justin Bieber.

That's funny. I always thought he had one of the best voices in rock*.

The first song they released from their new (upcoming?) album is more conventional. It's not the best song I've ever heard from them, but it's decent. I can't figure out how to embed it from my phone, but here's a link. It's called "Days Go By (http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Y5Zy2GkWVFs)".

"Days Go By" is for college alt-rock stations. That other abomination in the OP is for pop/urban stations. Neither matches up to their older more hardcore stuff. Who cares. People act like selling out is some sort of a horrible thing. Any one of you here would happily whore themselves out for big money.

wow. that's just horrible. my comfort zone is rock and blues, but I grew up listening to all kinds of music. anything from Rick James to Charlie Daniels to Metallica to Stevie Ray Vaughan (the baddest guitarist to ever live!)
I just love GOOD music. if it's good, I'm gonna dig it. I love some Offspring songs. but this thing is just bad and it is NOT Offspring. no joke, it really DOES sound like a Bieber song. WTF! I wouldn't like it no matter who sings it, but Offspring doing this is just crazy.

PS - how in the HELL is that boyfriend song of Biebers a frigging hit? I think I like this Offspring song better than that steam pile.

There are few bands that I loathe as much as The Offspring. It's nice that they continually remind me why. Bunch of pseudo-intellectual tripe.

Yup. That fits. I listened to as much as I could stand. I'd say it was around twenty seconds. It's crap. It's ****ing horrible bubblegum pop music. I saw the asterisk next to "rock" but I would put it in the same trash can category as Rebecca Black's Friday.

Rise and Fall was pretty good, IMO.

They've been around for over 20 years; at some point they're going to run out of their best stuff. I'm not going to slam them too hard for trying to make one final dash at easy money before they retire. These guys have to be nearing 50 by now - at some point they're going to decide to cash out and call it a day.

Nothing will ever compare to Smash, that's for sure.

But I'll have to hear more of the album before i judge too harshly.

The OP has to be the worst Pop/Punk Song I've EVER heard. EVER.

You'll probably like some of the stuff on this new album too. I doubt that this song is representative of the entire effort. They often seem to have a more radio-pop song on their records along with their more traditional stuff. In fact, they seem to usually have a lot of variety.

Here's an alternative view on the new song...

http://www.grantland.com/blog/hollywood-prospectus/post/_/id/52023/cruising-california-and-the-offsprings-diabolical-deathless-novelty-rock

In other words - it's something of a parody; The Offspring essentially re-packaging "Pretty Fly" to parody the new brand of pop garbage.

(Or perhaps they just suck now, but most reviews of the album suggest that this may not be the case)

A friend got it, there are a handful of songs a liked quite a bit, a handful that were pretty forgettable, and some total garbage. Exactly like I sum up their last 3-4 albums.

You're right in every respect with this post. None of their 'singles' from any of the past few releases were representative of the whole albums, and even the worse offspring albums still a few songs i really like. i was always a fan, always liked Dexter Hollands voice and thought the lyrics were good. even though my tastes in music have completely changed in time, i still have a soft spot for em and appreciate hearing new music from them, even if some of it's embarrassing.

I read an interview with Dexter and he made it sound like it was just something fun they tried near the end of their recording session, rather than intentional mockery.

Realize later that it sucks.

Put it on the album, and call it satire of songs that suck.

I don't really have much expectations out of the Offspring anymore. It's been pretty clear for awhile now that Dexters interests in the band aren't a main priority. With that being said, I think there first three albums are always great to listen to. A couple of months ago they were doing a small tour to commemorate the anniversery of the realease of Ignition. They were going to play the entire album. I was listening to Smash the other day and I forgot how great that album stands up. Great songs from start to finish.
