imo the next time(IF) Soria becomes a "legit closer guy" we probably need to trade him ... he's falling apart.

Canofbier
06-18-2012, 09:51 AM
Why do we have to trade our closer?

It would sort of make sense. Our bullpen is arguably our strongest asset, and we've got a few guys who could probably take over at closer without much of a drop-off in production.

I'm not saying that I want to see Broxton or Frenchy go, but if we could get a halfway decent starting pitcher for it, why not? Francoeur will be losing playing time to Myers before long anyway.

Saul Good

I don't think he is the best closer on the roster. This reeks of Mike MacDougal's run a few years ago where during the first half he'd let a runner or three on only to get out of the jam.

Brox has only had four 1-2-3 innings.

I totally understand where you're coming from, but we don't HAVE to trade our closer. Now if we're giving up on this season, he must be moved.

This team wins games because of the pen, and he has been extremely effective in his role as closer.

The thing is this, the Royals need a legit starter far more than closer. We can plug someone from the bullpen into the closer's role far easier than a starter's role. If we can get that for the cost of Broxton and Frenchy, then we do it without even thinking twice. We have the offense and bullpen to win the division. We don't have the starting pitchers to do it though. They are the Matt Cassel of this team.

mr. tegu
06-18-2012, 11:08 AM
I agree with what it looks like most people are thinking with regards to Broxton. Yesterday when Broxton was warming up my fiance said, "Oh no he isn't coming in is he?" or something along those lines. Anyone can see that he labors out there way too much. Yesterday our pen had pitched 7 scoreless innings without as much of a sniff of a run from the Cardinals, then Broxton came in and blew it.

If we can trade him and Frenchy and a minor leaguer if necessary for a starting pitcher, our team will be in much better position to make a run this season. It will make room for Myers and we have guys that can close the came already in place. I actually like Collins or Crow there. Collins has an out pitch he can go to which a closer needs. I don't really see one in Broxton. Motte didn't have one for the Cardinals and Billy crushed the third fastball he saw.

Great Expectations
06-18-2012, 11:09 AM
This team wins games because of the pen.

I agree 100%, the pen is our strength. I think the pen can be a strength w/out Broxton, and we can get help in an area of weakness (sp).

If we could move Broxton, Frency, and a prospect for a legit starter with another season left on their contract I think we have to do it. Moving up Myers, and getting back Paulino, Perez, and Cain (biggest ?) should help the offense and defense. Paulino + 1 will definitely help the rotation and put us in a position to make a run during the second half.

We go, Astros, Cards, Rays, Twins, Blue Jays, el Tigre before the all star break.

If we can get within 3 games of .500 we need to make a move. It will likely be a three team deal because we will be trying to move 2 MLB guys and maybe a prospect for a MLB starter. A team willing to move a starter probably wants prospects or long term players instead of Frenchy and Brox.

Question now: can they ever get past this 6-game under hump.

Yesterday went a long way to helping with this. A loss yesterday puts us at 7 games under but saving that game means we can now win tonight and finally get back to 5 games under meaning the new target is an even .500 instead of getting back to 5 games under.

I understand your premise.

But, more than likely, Broxton isn't apart of the Royals long term plans. Why not entertain and possibly pursue offers?

As a fan, I still think the Royals are a bit away from contending. So to me, Broxton is certain worth trading off this year if the offer is right.
