I can't update the thread as much as they're posting deals -- there's apparently new deals every 8 hours as well as daily deals. Tons of collection/bundles as well.

I really recommend you guys keeping an eye on the link I posted in the OP.

Don't forget that you can still make purchases from the website -- the steam client (and site) are both getting hit hard - the sale has only been live for an hour :)

Took me a minute but I just purchased Portal 2.

Shogun 2 is a masterpiece of a game. It's easily worth 10 times the amount of money they're asking for it.

Was a day 1 purchase for me, if you've never played a Total War game, Shogun 2 is a good place to start.

I'll also add that Legend of Grimrock is a fantastic dungeon crawler with a great old school feel.

Spacechem -- I hear and read it's quite the challenge (probably an understatement) but really satisfying. Guys from GiantBombcast rave about it.

Can anyone comment on how the PC version of MW3 is? I'm tempted to pick it up but am hesitant because I'm thinking Battlefield 3 will get a good sale soon.

edit: Only interested in multiplayer

Edit2: Saints Row 3 deal is live now $12.49 --- I have a crazy amount of fun with this game on PS3.

Total War is a top 5 franchise for me, man. These games have two elements to them: there's the empire building (like a simplified version of Civ) aspect and then there's the real-time battlefield aspect (you get to control 1000+ well-detailed and well-animated units in all kinds of ways).

In the empire building, you make decisions on what to research, what to upgrade, how to tax your subject, what to build and who to go to war with (or ally or simply trade). You also have to decide how you want to tax your population as you want to keep them happy This is all turn-based.

On the battlefield, you get to fight with the armies you build. This is real time (you are able to pause and give commands, unless you play on higher difficulties).

These are AAA titles with good production and amazing depth of gameplay, man. I honestly suggest you try Shogun 2. It's simpler than a lot of the predecessors because you don't have to worry about putting governors in your cities and there's not nearly as much to research or branch out to than in some previous titles.

If you like Shogun 2, then you should try Medieval 2 and if you're not burned out by then, I would say go ahead and try Empire.

There is currently a THQ bundle on Amazon pc direct download where you can get Metro 2033, Darksiders, Red Faction Armageddon, Supreme Commander Forged Alliance and another game or two for $15. Darksiders is probably worth $15 on its own.

The Rockstar bundle is really good too, but I already own most of the games on the consoles. But for $50, you get GTA IV, Liberty City Stories, LA Noire, Max Payne 3 and two or three others. Max Payne 3 is worth $50 basically by itself.

I haven't played Metro 2033 but saw some positive reviews on Cheapassgamer. It's a fairly standard survival FPS. I haven't played Saints Row 3 but I loved the first one and saw that parts 2 and 3 got similar reviews or better than the first one so I assume I will like it.

Not quite your typical FPS. The game introduces a number of cool concepts including a bullet economy. You'll enjoy it - especially if your rig can run it with max settings.
If you enjoyed the first Saints Row -- this edition will blow your mind.. So much craziness.

I had a custom rig built a few weeks ago. Nvidia 670GTX video card, i5 processor (not the fastest out but close and a lot cheaper than the i7), solid state hard drive, 16 GB ram, etc. I imagine it won't be obsolete for at least 17 days.

I didn't really plan on picking much up, because (sadly?/fortunately?) I've already played nearly everything released during this 'generation.'

That is, until they put both Fallout New Vegas and Fallout 3 GOTY Edition on a flash sale. I've already beaten both, but hadn't played either beyond their respective first DLC releases.

Started it over and am going to do it right this time and not have huge castles with tons of military buildings in every town that I never use.

Make sure you have as many trade points captured and filled with trade ships as you can(even if it means war with everyone and no allies). You will be able to support a magnificent army. Also, make sure you have well-armed patrol fleets around your major sea trade routs because the pirates will keep coming.

Assigning the right family members to be in charge of the right things also makes a huge difference.

what exactly is Dear Esther anyway?

Not your kind of game.

It's a first-person game that really focuses on exploration, uncovering mysteries of the island and figuring out who you are and why you're there. It's a ghost story of sorts. You seriously just hold "w" and explore the island with narration blips popping up randomly depending on what you're looking at or where you're heading. The atmosphere and poetic story are the game. There are no enemies and you do no shooting or attacking in this game -- you simply explore.

Jessica Curry did the OST for this and it almost makes the game.

Is it anything like Myst? Because I liked that.

Nope. There are no puzzles.
I'll say this though - if you enjoyed Myst, there is a great game for sale ($2.49) called "Scratches - directors cut". I picked this up a few months ago (full price) and absolutely loved it. The puzzles are very challenging and the game is genuinely creepy.

It's very annoying. You really shouldn't have to authenticate more than once from each machine.

If you decide to pick up Scratches -- bookmark this page -- you will get stuck. Like "Riven" or "Myst 3", the puzzles can be extremely difficult and it's easy to overlook something. I only recommend using it if you get stuck though.

You'll have the option to run under DX11 or DX10. If your frames aren't where you want them under DX11 -- go ahead and switch it to DX10 (I run it on directx 10 and with settings all high -- it's beautiful).

Fuck IGN. I'd say the metacritic score of 81 is pretty accurate.
Honestly, most people just run this game as a benchmark for their new rigs (it's the Doom 3 of 2011).
The game is a little rough around the edges - gunplay isn't as tight as it should be, the voice acting leaves a lot to be desired (Though the Russian VA is FANTASTIC - I'd recommend playing it in Russian with English subs), and the game itself is quite linear.
Things that the game does well: atmosphere, a cool bullet economy, great story (I've ordered the book that it's based on), cool survival mechanics (charging flashlights, gas masks with limited oxygen), amazing graphics and awesome enemy design.
Bullets can be scarce (especially since they are used as the game's currency) so you will definitely use every weapon you find (which is a good thing since the weapon design is very, very good).
If you have a beefy rig, it's worth owning at full price. At $4.99, it's a no-brainer.

Hmm, bullet economy. Thats a strike against it for me. Might try it anyway but would have to resort to an ammo cheat if I play.

The game is awesome. Great atmosphere. Don't let the bullet economy thing stop you. I've been playing for a couple days and haven't run into any problems with not having enough ammo yet. Except the first 5 minutes when you are still in your camp. Once you actually get out of your camp, there's plenty of ammo.
