It's about 85 in our house right now. The A/C is blowing out air but it just isn't cold. Neither me or my brother have the money to do shit about it right now.

The good news is, his wife is taking the 1 year old to her grandma's house to stay. So at least I get this sweat lodge to myself.

Same thing happened to me a couple of years ago, we had to wait 3 months before we had enough cash to replace the whole thing. I bought a $100 window a/c and put it in our bedroom. At least the Mrs & I were comfy at night.

I hope mine never goes out. My uncle is no longer healthy enough to take care of AC issues for family members so we have to pay regular price now.

Is this central air or window unit?

If central, is the compressor/fan running outside? Can you hear/feel the copper tubing transferring coolant to/from the exterior unit?

How much does it cost to replace pretty much the entire AC unit in a '97 Cadillac Deville (compressor, condenser, etc)? That's the predicament I am in. Just bought the damn thing too.

I'm very thankful for my AC.

I can't stand being hot, even in the winter I run the AC and a fan at night. Polar bear status

Shut the ac off, go outside, have someone turn the unit on. You will 1st hear the unit kick on and then the compressor. That'll tell you if the compressors running.

Like another poster said, check the coolant line, see if its sweating. If not, you need some refridgerant.

If he is low on refrigerant the line is going to be frosting and the indoor A coil is going to be a fucking block of ice.

Just roll in ball powder.

Thats not a bad idea. If i take a brutally hot shower and cover myself in ball dust, I might feel a lot better. Or...I'll just sweat profusely and the powder will clump up around my baby plaza, which will coax me into selling the Gold Bond clumps as crack cocaine to the delirious guy that lives behind the Dairy Queen.

Change the air filter, if its dirty. Clean the outdoor unit and indoor unit. If it's all good you're most likely low on refrigerant in which case you likely have a leak some where in the system.

Instead of Refilling the freon, will ball powder work?

Sack dust is a lot like duct tape and WD-40. They will take care of anything and if not, throw it away, or burn it with fire.

I've been watching Barter Kings. I bet you could trade up for an AC unit, start with a spoon or something.
