Thought we should have one of these for the pre-season.
So far between the NFLN and ESPN I have heard...
He hasn't thrown a ball in a year
His line might have issues because he is teaching them
The WR ran the wrong route on his overthrow

He looked good to me for his first game.
Displayed some really nice accuracy.
Two passes were dropped, depending on how you see the INT.

Minus the red zone interception. Or the mid field should have been intercepted. Or Chicago holding guys out. Drives that net you no points are huge.
Might as well throw one off the goal posts. Accomplishes the same thing

Peyton Manning’s arm looks fine
Peyton Manning has taken his first snaps as the Denver Broncos’ quarterback, and his arm looks fine.
Manning didn’t throw any deep passes in his first drive of the preseason Thursday night at Soldier Field in Chicago, but he threw well enough to drive the Broncos down the field before the drive ended when a pass over the middle was deflected and intercepted.
Manning’s first pass was a short one to tight end Jacob Tamme, his old Colts teammate, and it was a good pass right on the money — but Bears linebacker Lance Briggs did a great job in coverage of sticking his hand in and knocking the ball away. Manning’s second pass was a bad one that should have been intercepted — it bounced off the hands of Bears defensive end Geno Hayes — but on the deflection it went into the hands of Tamme for a first down.
After that, Manning threw some solid passes to Eric Decker. One came after the Broncos’ line gave Manning plenty of time to go through his progressions, eventually allowing him to find Decker along the sideline for a first down. Another went over the middle to Decker for 19 yards on third-and-17.
The drive-ending interception was a little behind the intended receiver, Brandon Stokley, although Stokley did get a hand on it before it was tipped into the air by Chicago’s D.J. Moore and picked off by Major Wright.
Manning’s one and only drive of the night doesn’t tell us a whole lot — he never really aired it out on a deep ball, and he didn’t take any hard hits — but the Broncos have to be satisfied with the way his arm looks.

I disagree. He had no pressure all night, several good players on the Bears D didn't play and he never threw a pass over 20 yards. I saw 1 really good pass against a 3 man rush.

you're looking too hard to find negatives, and its causing you to miss the point...
its his first game in action in almost 2 yrs with a completely new team and offense...
just wanted him to get a taste, move the chains a bit, and get off the field and he did just that...
he made some nice throws and the ones he missed werent by much... good plays by the bear defenders even though stokley did have the ball bounce off his chest a bit...
its unreasonable to expect him to return and look like a superstar instantly with no rust...
manning isnt 100%, we already know that but considering the circumstance, it was an encouraging start...
if he continues as we hope, he will continue to improve and build cohesion with his teammates...

Well of course you disagree. He looked good. He moved his feet well and made a good strong throw to the sideline that was right on the money. YOu wanna see that if your a Denver fan. Its NOT HIS FAULT that there was no pressure on him. Funny thing is Manning doesnt usually get pressured all that much to begin with. He's one of the least sacked qb's ever for as long as he's played he knows how to get rid of the ball.

Km the overthrow in the corner of the endzone was an overthrow. It would have taken an acrobatic catch from hell to make that. The NFLN said ti was a perfect pass that hit the pylon. Not only was it not a perfect pass, it didn't hit the pylon.

He looked pretty average to me. Didn't do anything special other than stand strong in the pocket. His arm strength didn't impress me. His ball placement was average to below average.
I'm interested in seeing how he does against a solid pass rush. Denver's O-line looked decent this time in the pass game.
Big improvement over what they were last year. I'm not saying it will stay this way. Just from the 7 snaps with PM in there they looked better.
I wish KC played PM in week 1 cause right now he looked rusty. If he's healthy later in the season is what I'd be worried about.

That sideline pass took two minutes to get there.
Just watched the highlight reel and he didn't look anything like PM of old. He has happier feet right now and isn't putting much on his throws at all. Also the INT was thrown behind the receiver which is why the defender was able to knock it away so easily.

7 passes is hardly any kind of barometer of how he's going to play this season.

it's his first game back in preseason and yes he looked better than I thought he was going to look. Looking through all of his options, hitting WR's downfield, finding a first down, etc. I mean, he only threw 7 passes but let's face it. Haters gonna hate. He looked good to me and he is just going to get better. He did very little of his usual antics at the line of scrimmage, just wait until the rest of the offense learns everything Peyton wants to do. Denver has an entire month to get it down, and we are going to be scary once we do.
PS. Did you see our defense? JFC. DOOM, Von, and Wolfe are going to obliterate people this year. They might have 40 sacks between the three of them. ROFL

ROFL
Of course he did, he could shit on your head and you'd lap it right up. The lightning quick release was frightening, but his arm looked similar to that of Downfield Big Game Damon Huard.

I have no doubts Manning will improve over the season. The point of the post, however, was to point out how everyone in their brother was making excuses for a rather average to below average showing. I mean even their hometown writers are talking out both sides of their mouth. "He didn't complete a pass over 20 yards (in the air), he played one series and he threw 1 pick and almost threw another" if not 2 others. Yet "the Broncos have to be satsified with is arm".
He didn't take a hit either which I specualte is one reason they pulled him so early.

Sure he is and because he's a Broncos the Broncos are getting the exposure. But here's the link you are missing because you're not too bright: If Manning was not a Bronco, how much coverage does this team get?
Tebow is now a Jet and of course the Jets are getting way too much press. However, thats for 2 reasons--1. Tebow and 2. It's the NY JETS and they are in a huge media market.

it's his first game back in preseason and yes he looked better than I thought he was going to look. Looking through all of his options, hitting WR's downfield, finding a first down, etc. I mean, he only threw 7 passes but let's face it. With Manning and Rivers in this division, it's not gonna be easy plus I don't think we've ever beaten Peyton Manning. Denver has to be excited right now.

They were playing a vanilla offense.
Let's see, 3WR, 1TE, 1RB on the vast majority of snaps. Within that personnel, formations go little further than flipping the strength to the other side, or going shotgun. No motion or formation shifts. Oh, and levels and 3 verticals are the two most common pass concepts. Hmmm.
It's no surprise that the offense would be tailored to fit Manning....but it looks like they xeroxed the Colts playbook.

LOL at you guys formulating strong negative opinions after 10 snaps by Manning. The only thing you can possibly take away from Manning's performance is that he isn't going to play scared. He was the same patient, anticipatory Peyton Manning we are used to seeing. On the out route he completed to Decker he said that Decker was the 5th option on the play. He was cool and calm in the pocket and that bodes well for the future.

Again, he needs lots and lots of snaps to get it back up to full strength. That will come. But not immediately.
In the meantime, what did I tell you about his offense awhile ago? It will take time to get into a groove. Delirium Tremens clearly didn't know WTF was going on. "But he's doing so well in offseason practices!" you said.

Yeah I actually can say that Denver isn't where I thought they were when it comes to being in sync with each other. Manning couldn't change the play at the LOS as he has in years past. A QB that hasn't played in a year, is on a new team with new WRs in an outdoor stadium, coming off of neck surgeries and is 37 years old is what my expectations are based on. So far so good, I like what I see compared to last year.
What I like even more is having a front office that makes a move to get a manning while drafting for a QBOTF at the same time. If Osweiller is that QB great, if he's not I know we'll go until we get one sooner rather than later. Wouldn't trade places with anyone and sure as hell not anyone in the West.

Sure. Payton makes players around him better. Until we have quite a few snaps to look at, I'm not counting the little bastard out. Seriously, he's no Brett Favre has been, at least not yet. I hope he sucks, I hope he's lost it, but 10 snaps aint enough to make that determination.

Crisco aint' walking through that door!
That actually is a myth. 12 games? 8 in Indy + 1 in Houston=9
Well there were at least 9 for certain every year, but I'm sure that most years there were more.

Can't wait for the season to get here. IMHO this season will be one of adjustment for Manning and the Broncos. No reason not to win the shitty AFC West but anything more is bonus.
IF they can get through this year healthy I feel like next season will be the Broncos best chance to get to the big game with Manning.

It will be good to have the regular season start so we can see it on the field. All the preseason barking is fun but it makes me want to see who has what for real.

It beats crying like a bitch and hoping the team loses for draft position that's for sure.

John Elway says Peyton Manning is the same passer as always
When John Elway signed Peyton Manning to a five-year, $96 million contract with the Broncos, he was expecting the same Peyton Manning who played 13 seasons with the Colts. And after seeing Manning up close in training camp, Elway says that’s exactly what he got.
“He’s throwing the post route and everything well,” Elway told USA Today. “I went back and looked at film from 2010 and 2009 to get a comparison of Peyton, and he looks to me to be the same guy throwing now that he was then. The ball is coming out quicker all the time the more and more time he gets with the offense and getting to know all his receivers and tight ends. . . . That’s always been his style. He’s never been the Nolan Ryan of quarterbacks anyway. He’s always throwns the ball with great anticipation and touch.”
USA Today‘s headline on the story is, “Elway says Broncos’ Manning throwing ball better than ever,” but that claim isn’t supported by Elway’s comments in the story: Elway says Manning is the same as he was with the Colts, not better than he was with the Colts. Still, if Elway believes Manning is throwing the ball just as well now as he did prior to his neck surgeries, that would mean that Elway has signed one of the best passers in the NFL. And Elway thinks Manning remains a quarterback who can win a Super Bowl.
“Looking at the end run, winning the Super Bowl is our goal. Our owner, Pat Bowlen, wants to be competitive and win Super Bowls,” Elway said. “We’re a lot closer now than we were. I feel like with Peyton, as well as the supporting cast here, we can go out and compete for one, and that’s all you can hope for.”
Manning himself says that his arm isn’t the same at age 36 as it was at age 22, but Elway apparently doesn’t see any decline. If Elway is right, he may have brought another Super Bowl to Denver when he signed Manning.

Who was saying Manning wouldn't mentor younger QBs?
Peyton Manning willing to build up other Denver Broncos QBs
By Jeff Legwold The Denver Post The Denver Post
As the years have spun by, Peyton Manning has been described man ways. A Hall of Famer. An MVP. And in the swirl that has come with Manning's arrival in Denver, the Broncos themselves have added another.
Teacher.
"Absolutely," said Broncos rookie quarterback Brock Osweiler. "I don't want to constantly bug him and all that. I pick my spots. But I'm in the greatest situation you could be in as a young quarterback. I work next to a Hall of Famer who is willing to help me, to share what he knows.
"It doesn't get better than that. It can't get better than that."
The NFL is littered with tales of starting quarterbacks who weren't all that interested in grooming the guys who could take their jobs.
It's the nature of the vocation. To succeed takes ultra-confidence, next-level swagger, the consistent, non-stop belief that you are, without question, the best man for the job from now until the day you retire. And sometimes it can get messy if the guy who knows isn't ready to dish to the guy who is trying to learn.
The Broncos have three impressionable and youthful passers behind Manning on their depth chart, a collection of players whose development could be stifled if Manning were not Manning.
At 21, Osweiler was one of the youngest youngest players in the draft. Adam Weber, who spent the 2011 season on the Broncos practice squad, is 25 and even Caleb Hanie, in his fifth year in the league, is still only 26.
"They're all young guys," said Broncos quarterbacks coach Adam Gase. "But when Peyton says something (to them), it's his perspective, not some piece of paper perspective."
Need to know what the nickel corner does in a certain coverage, Manning knows. Need to know how a certain defensive coordinator has dialed up third-and-6 through the years, Manning knows.
Need to know how to study, watch video, take notes or get from one end of the season to the other, well, just watch and learn because Manning knows.
Even something as simple as a training camp progression drill, with the quarterbacks, by themselves, throwing passes to assistant equipment manager Mike Harrington or even Luke Del Rio, Jack's son, has become a teaching moment. Manning will often stop the drill for a few moments and explain why one pass was a better option than another.
Or he will explain how the defense would have played it in a game, where the defensive back would have cheated, the best way to look off the safety and come back around for the completion.
"The thing that he does so well is the right play, the right read, the right progression," Gase said. "Just meticulous study of where does this ball need to go against this defense, what's this defense trying to accomplish against me."
In the world of NFL quarterbacks, information is precious. NFL quarterback may be the most demanding position in sports.
To get a head start, to have the ultimate resource of memory, talent and work ethic will likely benefit the Broncos for some time. And Manning has yet to even play a regular-season game for the team.

We watched the game dude. He is certainly not the same passer. Arm strenght doesn't just appear over night either.
