Chiefs try out DT Shaun Smith
August, 30, 2012
AUG 30

The Kansas City Chiefs tried out defensive tackle Shaun Smith on Tuesday.

Smith, who was cut by Tennessee last week, played for the Chiefs and Romeo Crennel during the 2010 season. He has played for Crennel in 2007 and 2008 while in Cleveland.

If signed Smith would join the defensive tackle rotation. If he is not signed before the Sept. 9 season opener the Chiefs could add Smith to their roster with a non-guaranteed, one-year contract.

That's kinda surprising, if true.

Surprised. Gordon played pretty well this preseason. There were times he disappeared, but times where he strung together a few good plays.

I thought so, too.

I'm all for bringing back the deep freeze, though.

His attitude and personality helped the defense play loose.

2008 would be relevant because he was playing for Romeo in Cleveland. Looking at Smith's numbers it looks like he is a one year wonder on the wrong side of 30.

I couldnt care less what happened in 2008.

In 2010, in the exact defense we run right now, he was a effective starter and ranked as one of the top 3-4 DEs in football...he can be a difference maker for our defense that gives us a legit player if one of our starters goes down to injury.

Only a dumbshit troll would want to try and highlight numbers from 4 seasons ago.

I understand though, its a defense mechanism for you.

I think he's actually a time traveler from 2008 or something. He's shocked that Ryan Harris got cut even though he hasn't done shit in the league since 2008. That year was all that mattered to him.

If you wanna bash Pioli. Fine. But find something more interesting.

Richardson was drafted and played 4 seasons. 2 full seasons at LT. It didnt work, so the Chiefs moved on and signed Winston.

With the inexperienced refereeing that will be going on this year, players like Smith can get away with giving them the business here and there.

Shrewd move, Pioli.

Bringing him back would be outstanding, every defense needs a Smith or two.

Solid player with elite attitude.
