Okay listen to the stories just before the accident and after the accident.

I've got to wonder if this lady hates her job. I know I would. That's doing news for you I guess.

Horrible story, then.. horrible story. And to wrap it up? Horrible story.

My Dad used to let me and my friends take our boat (16' Bayliner) to Mark Twain lake when we were in high school. I have no idea what made him think that was safe, but whatever. We would always take beer and one time I made the mistake of announcing that I had just taken the last beer out of the cooler. Everyone except the driver dove at me to get the beer and we came THIS CLOSE to flipping that boat at pretty much full speed. We definitely straightened up after that. Scary.

I grew up on a lake with steady access to a boat from when I was about 12 years old. My friends and I stayed on the lake (bigtime into skiing) all summer, but we never had any close calls. But we didn't have a freaking scarab/cigarette boat either.

The dumbest thing I ever did in the boat (other than night time water skiing) was overloading our pontoon boat to the point that the pontoons were pretty much all the way submerged.

I noticed that also. I think it was either broken or stuck.

I had a lot of accidents in boats, and some pretty scary close calls. We finally quit going to the lake on 4th of July weekend it got so bad. Someone upstairs was obviously looking out for us, to have survived.

Which are most boaters on the weekends... Its amazing how many people have these huge ass boats and very little knowledge of basic boating skills.

Lake patrol has to deal with super amounts of stupid on the weekends.

Jet skiers seem to be the biggest problem on Grand Lake.
They buzz around the wake of big boats like a swarm of horse flies not pay a lick of attention to what else is going on around them and end up running into each other, running into other boats.

It's the same at the Ozarks.

I think that is mostly due to age. You get a bunch of 14-25 year olds on there who don't understand that there are no brakes and they don't just turn on a dime.

Maybe I am a pro, I don't know. But mine stops pretty easy and does turn around on a dime. Of course I have been riding it for a decade + and started out on a jetski.

I think most do no understand how to get it to do those things.

I was river rat all my life boating on the river. Tons of deaths and maulings prop strikes to people. people backing over or hitting skiiers. Of course the Indians pitchers who got decapitated in 96 know the dangers of boating as well.

You don't stop - you turn (though some of the new ones do, in fact, have brakes). If you don't have brakes or an avenue of escape, you can always pull the reverse lever and goose it; you'll drop the nose underwater and stop faster than any car you'll ever sit in. The easiest way, though, is to come off the throttle (you'll come off-plane and decelerate rapidly), then turn the handle and hit it hard enough to kick the tail and come to a dead stop. Think of it as similar to stopping on snow-skis or doing a t-stop on skates.

The problem with the wave-runners is that someone on them will try to act entitled to the right of way.

Look, sport - you have the only vehicle on this lake that should theoretically never wreck. It's not heavy, it's not subject to wind and waves and the acceleration on them is other-wordly. It's an engine with handlebars and that's it.

If there's a boat/waverunner collision, I really don't care about the circumstances - it's always the PWC's fault. You can stand up on one, turn the handle and hammer the throttle and get yourself out of absolutely any situation with those things.

I don't know if this has been explained but when a boat his a wave if the prop comes out of the water or towards the top it will over rev because it is not in the water. That guy seemed to be jacking with the throttle way to much though.

Yeah, I have no fucking clue what he thought he was doing. He should have just throttled back and let the boat roll with the wake instead of trying to be fancy and do whatever the fuck it is he thought he was doing. He probably throttled up right into the wake at a bad angle and made it a lot worse than it ever need be.

We took an 18ft in\out from the 88 to the 9. Wanna talk about getting the shit kicked out of you? Never once did we ever come close to anything like that. I was worried the boat was going to shatter from being tagged so hard from the big wakes but when you know how to drive a boat correctly 99% of the time you aren't going to end up in the situation Throttle Man did.

I hate being in a boat with someone who has no fucking idea of what they are doing but think they do. I don't know wtf this guy was thinking? The more I watch it the more I say he is lucky he isn't dead and didn't kill anyone.

1. You can't miss wakes that size.

2. You don't keep powering through wakes that size when the wake is obviously taller than your boat

As I said, we took an 18 ft in\out from the 88 to the 9. If anyone knows boats or the lake they would call us crazy for doing it. Shore Patrol did. Aside from it being a rough ride and worrying that the hull would crack from slaming down so hard from the big wakes it was never ever a life threatening situation because my cousin and I (we split the driving) actually understand how to drive a boat and how to handle big wakes.

Everyone had a sore ass and back after the ride but that was it.

You can see he made it through a wake or two until the big one nailed his ass with his boat off kilter because of the first two. And his throttle action pretty much says he probably hasn't had the boat very long.
