Community spirit filled the stands at Boardman's football stadium Thursday night as family, friends and residents came out in support of Jayden Barber, 4.

Jayden suffers with terminal bone cancer. But on this special night, the darkness of disease was overshadowed by a bright light in the sky that thrilled the little boy.

"Jayden loves Batman. Ever since he seen the movie, he absolutely loves him," said Jayden's grandmother, JoAnne Barber.

Jayden's love for Batman is why "Jayden's Warriors" rallied to get the action figure to pay Jayden a visit. It happened about an hour after Spider-Man and other super heroes were ushered into the stadium to meet all the kids who had gathered.

With a helicopter zipping by and the Bat Signal lighting the sky, Batman made his appearance and Jayden was given a special meet and greet with the caped crusader.

Kelley Platt helped organize the event. She said her group is overwhelmed by the strength of the Barber family.

"They welcomed us into their family to follow their journey with open arms. I'm just ecstatic to be a part, an honor to be a part of Jayden's journey, an honor to be Jayden's warrior," said Platt.

Stephen Brown and his family also came out to support Jayden at the event. Brown said that he took the opportunity to talk with his children about what Jayden is going through.

"They had the chance to meet Jayden before, briefly, just enough to say hello and they understand that he's got a difficult road," said Brown.

A notebook that was on hand sums up Jayden as a courageous and strong young man. He has an honorary key to Boardman Township, a $200,000 Maserati Batmobile, and the mayor of Youngstown declared Aug. 23 as Jayden Barber Day.

"It's amazing, the community and areas who don't even know Jayden, people just connected with him," said JoAnne Barber. "You know what, Jayden is my hero. He is amazing. He never complains. He always has a smile on his face and he's very very strong."

Fucking life can be so unfair -- 4 years old...

Zero publicity -- Bale just keep getting more and more amazing.

Club 33 would be just an extra bonus.

Thought it was just someone in a Batman suit. But to see it was actually Bale, speaks volumes about him.

It's tough to read stories like this one. :(

I'm not surprised that Bale did this though. He's truly remarkable!

This. I had cancer when I was 3. I had to go through surgeries, chemo, radiation, pain, exhaustion, nausea, scary machines, and seemingly non-stop needles. No child should ever have to go through that. And I was one of the lucky ones.

I've been a huge fan of Bale since I saw him in Empire of the Sun, and it's been great to see him get more and more prominent roles. But it's even better to see him do things like visiting with this family, and visiting the Aurora victims.

But I'm not too jealous, because when I was sick, I got to meet Curly from the Harlem Globetrotters :)

That's ridiculous. How can he not like Bale?

I'm guessing that Rausch doesn't listen to Phil Collins either. LMAO

Good lord, how do you tell a 4 year old that he is dying. Or do you? That has got to be the toughest thing any one has to deal with in life.

Awesome...

Christian Bale, minus his tirade a few years ago (who hasn't blown up at one point though?), seems like a real good dude.

I thought he was a selfish ass after that. Maybe he was just tired and lost his cool. Who knows. The last few months have been a different guy.

Christian Bale, minus his tirade a few years ago (who hasn't blown up at one point though?), seems like a real good dude.

The media completely distorted that story, Bale has always been incredibly committed to each and every one of his performances. To my knowledge, the lights guy carelessly walked into Bale's line of sight while they were shooting the climax of the movie. Seeing that the light guy had done this on multiple occasions, Bale lost it and lashed out in that moment.

Were Bale's actions uncalled for? Definitely. But does this make him the horrendous human being the media painted him as? Definitely not. We all lose our cool at times.
