WTF? I don't know anyone that has even mentioned chicken pox for years.

This absolutely sucks. Fever, aches, chills, headache since last Thursday. Pox showed up Sunday. They burn and itch. I might go insane.

Rub some 'Tussin on it.

If you run out of Tussin pour some water in the jar, shake it up, mo Tussin.

It could be Bubonic Plague. I think the early symptoms are similar. Keep an eye out for gangrene.

Oddly, I never got any of the childhood diseases. No measles, no mumps, no chicken pox. I was an armored child.

Although not sleeping because you burn and itch sucks too.

People in their 50s with chickenpox are much more likely to die than young kids. Something to think about.

Dude. There has been a vaccine for years. Do you go to a doctor and talk to him about your health history?

Especially considering my daughter had them. You'd have thought I'd have caught them then.

It was even a surprise to the docs. I went in yesterday and the first one didn't think it was CP but couldn't diagnose it. Just in case she had another doc come in, a pediatrician and he didn't think it was CP either.

They swabbed for the test anyway but took a bunch of blood thinking it was a reaction to a virus of some kind.

Better this than some unknown thing. I look like Elephant Man though.

I remember a Barney Miller episode about a guy that came in really sick. The place was quarantined because they weren't sure if it was chicken pox or small pox. It is no joke for older people.

My son had a very bad case when he was a baby. We thought he was going to die from it. He had fever over 105 and the emergency room didn't admit him. When we went to our pediatrician for an appointment unrelated to the chicken pox, she admitted him in the first five minutes. He was hospitalized for over two weeks. We believe that this illness was what caused his autism.

It was once Wojo thought he had it then Nick made that face and Deitrich said a bunch of real smart words while Barney raised his eyebrow knowingly yet benevolently and then Fish fell asleep.

Yep. Sounds like the wost is over. Either way, it sucks ass having them as an adult. I have thousands of those zits going all the way down my throat into my lungs. When they first brought me to my hospital room after admitting me the nurse took my temp and it was 104.3. Will never forget that. Could barely breathe, hurt everywhere. Just a total mess. A week later I was back at work. With hundreds of permanent scars covering my lungs from them. Chickenpox as an adult is no **** around thing. It can be fatal, quickly.

That's what I was thinking. I'm no doctor but a temperature that high over an extended period most likely played a factor.

Guys, please call your doctors and get the Chicken Pox vaccine. It will prevent another outbreak from ever occurring again.

The only time the vaccine is ineffective is during an outbreak. Once the outbreak has discontinued, the vaccine will work.

Good luck!

I thought I had read recently that the vaccine was not that effective in people who had already had a bout with shingles...Though it would prevent a repeat about 50% of the time.

It's completely effective.

My mom missed my daughter's second birthday due her like fifth or sixth shingles outbreak. On her next visit, a good friend that's an ER doctor told her to get the vaccine because it would prevent further outbreaks.

She did and hasn't had an outbreak in more than 2.5 years now. According to my doctor friend, she never will.

Good luck!

I can't believe you didn't get the vaccine, I got it at a young age and contracted the pox before 10(think i was 8) and it wasn't a big deal. From what i understand it can be serious at your age.
