I think the most interesting thing that he said was that he was always told that Clark has OK'd spending. He said he just thinks Pioli is too stubborn to go out and fix his mistakes.

IF that's true then Pioli needs to gtfo. Huge difference between a salary cap wizard and a penny pincher.

Babb doesn't believe that Pioli will draft a QB early unless forced. Too stubborn and too scared.

Ton of legit prospects in the first next year. Not taking the risk will be an enormous mistake.

Pioli's NSA agents pulled the plug.

Marcellus

He stated Pioli had freedom to spend $ but won't and also said he is such a cash machine he likely wont get fired soon.

I am assuming he means Pioli is running a tight (cheap) ship in all operations.

Bowser
09-17-2012, 03:37 PM
Well, the good news for Pioli is that if he gets canned from the Chiefs, the cheap ass Royals are right across the parking lot.

DaneMcCloud
09-17-2012, 03:37 PM
What was your question?

Essentially this: Has Clark learned from the mistake of not performing the proper due diligence of the man he hired to run the entire franchise or is he doomed to repeat his failure?

if the Chiefs draft in the top 5 and there is a QB there, or, one within reach, and he passes on him, I think ARrowhead will be burned to the ground.

or, at least I hope it will.

It's a brilliant plan until it backfires: Spend as little money as possible, earn as much money as possible and never put your ass on the line by making franchise changing decisions. If the Chiefs win 10 or 11 games this year, Pioli would have enough on his leash to have a few losing seasons immediately thereafter.

The problem is that if your team underperforms (and certainly, Pioli didn't expect them to underperform), he's on the very hotspot he so desperately tried to avoid.

I just don't understand this.

What possible motivation could Pioli have for being cheap? It's not his money. The ONLY reason he would have for being cheap is if his own compensation is affected by it.

Arrogance. He wants to prove he is a value guru. And he probably doesn't want people to think the only reason he turned the team around is because he opened his wallet out of desperation.

Quite frankly, another reason is that being cheap isn't always a bad thing. Im not upset about our cap management and think people are making too big a deal about it. There are far bigger fish to fry.

I was confounded by the logic behind this, as well.

After puzzling on the matter and slamming a couple of vodka shooters, there are only a few possibilities that I can think of; 1) He is bonused based on cap dollars saved, 2) He doesn't believe that there is anyone available who is worth spending money on, 3) He doesn't want to give the impression that the decisions he's already made were in any way incorrect, or 4) He wants to ingratiate himself with Clark and the Hunt family.

Honestly, I don't know which of those motivations are worse.

Well, isn't 2013 the year they are forced to spend it all?

Either way, if the team continues like this, the stadium will be empty, the merchandise will be stagnant, and there won't be much money flowing in. So it's pretty much win or else...

Yes their is a salary floor.

And it won't affect the Chiefs in any way.

This has been covered dozens of times just in the last couple of weeks even.

Guys, sorry to cut it short. Let's reconvene tomorrow. Got a looooot of problems to solve.

Heh, I wonder if it had to anything with the possibility of getting his press credentials by Pioli.

I just realized that nothing is likely to change. At all. Even if we go 4 and 12 on the season.

Pioli will weather this storm, I fear.

I'm afraid we can put up the torches and pitchforks for another day. Clark and Pioli know that the hardcore Chiefs fans will never, ever completely give up on their team. Babb is right about that.

The NFL is all about guaranteed money. The only way to guarantee money is to offer big signing bonuses to players, then spread the salary over 4 or 5 or 6 years.

THAT is the reason why the Chiefs didn't sign Bowe or Carr long term: Hunt didn't want to write a check for $25 million dollars to Bowe & Carr.

I asked him what week stanzi/quinn would start, and what would it take for that to happen.

Only way Quinn starts is if Cassel gets injured. Stanzi wont start unless it's the book of revelations time! (something along those lines)
