View Full Version : Chiefs Do you see what happens when teams actually have depth at CB?

Look at Atlanta tonight, lost their pro bowl corner so Dunta Robinson has stepped up and played nicely. To make matters worse Asante Samuel gets hurt and is out for a series, what happens? Robert Mcclain, the 4th string cb makes a highlight reel INT.

Are you watching Mr. Pioli?

Cornerbacks don't win championships. It's probably the least important position of the 22 on the field. Probably more tired of reading this line of BS than all the Cassel stuff.

No, I am asking for depth. Did we look like we had any depth in week 1?

Our CB depth was playing safety because our coaches are retarded.

In theory our CB depth should be unbelievable with Arenas. The problem is he sucks ass.

We've addressed the position like a bunch of motherfuckers. We've been tenacious in acquiring CB depth. The biggest problem is we can't trust Arenas to play the 1 or 2 in injury situations, Brown is hurt, and Daniels isn't available apparently.

So that's how that works. We're trying hard. We should be taking that effort we spend on CB and put it on... oh, I don't know... QUARTERBACK

cant have good CB depth if your GM sucks at evaluating talent and whiffs on CBs 3 out of the 4 years he's drafting.

Maybe someday he will hit on a player

Those Falcon back up CBs were TERRIBLE in the preseason. I mean horrible. I think it's more about Manning. He runs a strict timing offense and they don't have rythem yet. It was the same way the last time he came off an injury in Indy.orrible in the playoff game

Owens was horrible in the playoff game against the Packers a couple of years ago. He gave up almost every passing yard. It's coming at some point.

LOL, I am ready to cut some people today. You are talking to the wrong guy. I got killed earlier for wanting to cut DJ. He's the worst player on this team so far in 2012. We cut Sheffield last week. Let's cut someone real this week.

How in the hell can you take a cb that can only play corner in the Nickel formation in the second round

Do people honestly look at NFL teams across the league and think their #4 and #5 CBs are good? The way people talk, you'd think teams have Revis as their 4th stringer.

Funny thing, the Jets do have a 1st round pick that is their 3rd corner. The Giants as well. So...

the problem is Arenas ACTUALLY plays 50 percent of the game because we sit in Romeo's stupid nickel and sub packages. So when teams call run/draw/reverse/anything that isnt a pass, they attack Arenas because he has no idea how to stop the run, seal an edge, tackle, shed a block, etc

He's awful and he plays a lot. Don't act like Arenas is just dept that never sees the field. he's practically a starter and a lot of NFL teams are solid from CBs 1-3 in a pass happy league.

We are not one of them

In this defense you need a good run stopping CB in that nickel or sub package that can assist in those run calls offenses like to take the match up of doing. CJ Spiller was blowin us up on those draws and our CBs were getting shit on in the run game because of it.

Well we aren't talking about finding pro bowl 4th and 5th corners, we are talking about finding defensive backs that can come in the game and do a solid job if need be

we had one, ONE that they moved to fucking FS

seriously whoever that magical idea was (I assume Pioli, the man behind the curtain), should be fucking fired. Because it's by far one of the shittiest ideas in the last 4 years of the regime.

That and playing Berry at the phantom LBer spot. They are both up there for awful player personnel decisions. Just stupid to not play these guys at their natural positions and trying to to be smarter than our crappy coaching and GMing is. Sign a fucking real FS and sign a real LBer that can cover. Imagine those concepts you dumb fuck GM.

I really wonder if Berry would be back at SS if Menzie was healthy. I think he was drafted for that position to move Eric back to SS.

It's not a bad scheme if you think another safety is better than another LB. Of course, because we play so much man out of it, you had better be able to get pressure and have a nickel who can play against the run. Arenas hasn't shown the ability to do that.

we dont have the talent or playmakers to do any of this. And until Pioli gets them, we never will.

It worked in New England because they had a fucking DT that could blow up the line and push fuckers into the QB and/or stop the run in that package as well. We dont have that.

Well, Bailey being out hurts us more than people would care to admit or realize, especially in our 2-3-6, which we run quite a few snaps in. Having Lewis out doesn't help at all either.

Additionally, our Defense being left on the field the entire game by Matt "Captain 3&Out" Cassel isn't really beneficial either.

Just because they aren't all-pros doesn't mean they aren't difference makers.

Bailey is the only lineman we have that provides a fucking interior pass rush and you think that doesn't make a difference? It makes a huge difference, especially because he is our only interior guy who can rush the passer and be average against the run.

Come on man. You've been on about everything else you've posted tonight. Don't ruin it.

injuries happen to every NFL team and they adjust. I just dont buy that our entire defense falls apart because our 5th round safety and 3rd string sub package DE arent in there. Call me crazy but I dont think they are the saviors

You're right. They aren't the only reason our defense is playing awful right now (Bailey starts in our sub package which is on the field constantly, but I digress) However, this defense will continue to be shitty with Matt Cassel at QB. I can promise you that.

If you remember, once Cassel was out last year, our entire defense played at a much higher level.

Hmm interesting relationship between suckage on O and suckage on D..
I can understand 3-n-out and the D being on the field for too long. But this season has been different. In week 1, our O was trading punch for punch , where was the D?

The difference makers are losing Kelly Gregg/Amon Gordon, by a mile. Abram Elam was a complete disaster.

I don't think our corners are bad. I like Daniels a lot. Arenas is better than he gets credit for.

When you're relying on your corners to make tackles because your line interior is allowing massive cutback lanes, and your LBs aren't playing their gap responsibilities, you have problems much bigger than your secondary.

I agree. This is a very good post. The corners are probably better than most teams as a group. Anyone is going to struggle when their 3rd stringer has to start.

DJ is really missing the gaps. Especially last Sunday.

Bailey isn't playing in that 2-3-6 defense. He really struggled in camp and was demoted to 2nd string. Pitoitua and Poe are the guys that have been the main d-linemen in that formation all preseason and regular season.

The problem with the defense is this stupid 2-3-6 formation. Every TD we have given up this year but one was against this formation. It didn't work in the preseason and it's not working now. This is why I'm pissed at Romeo. It's like he has out-thought himself. Why is he changing his defense in the third year here? He needs to go back to what we did last year in the nickel. We rarely ran this package.

This package was designed for Berry to have success but it isn't working. There was an interview late in camp where Berry talked about all the the things they had planned for him in 2011 but then he got hurt. It really doesn't seem to be helping him at all.

Also, Chan really exposed the 2-3-6 formation when he ran HB draw and delay plays out of the spread. Romeo should scrap that stupid formation quick. He needs to go back to our standard nickel packages with either 3 or 4 down linemen.

He's not good in run support. He might call some of the alignments and get a pick now and again but, the reality is that we shouldn't ever be counting on the guy. He's always hurt. It's time to replace Lewis in my opinion. The injuries are getting old.
