If there's any silver lining...
This comes out. And Romeo's first comment before anybody said anything was talking about the QB situation and showing his commitment to Cassel.

It sounds like the Chiefs know this is a problem. And they know there isn't a good backup solution. I have to wonder if Pioli's motivation for pushing Cassel is that he knows that the slim-to-none chance Cassel turns this season around is the only way he can keep his job.

A few months ago, I would have viewed this arrogance. Today, I think it's desperate. That's progress.

Also, since we're comparing to Joe Montana....where was Joe on his TD to INT/Fumble ratio at this point in that season? better yet, W-L.

Lonewolf Ed
09-30-2012, 06:19 PM
And let us not forget, Cassel put the team in position to kick SIX field goals last week, and that was a team record! QB is a leadership position for more than just the offense. The special teams owes him a tip of the cap, as well.

#1 offense is nothing to snicker at.

Seriously, do you think this is the #1 offense in the NFL? An offense that has never led for 1 second this season of actual clock time? And let's not lay all of that at the feet of the defense.

It's called Garbage Time Gus Stats 101 in your local college course description guide.

has there ever been another Chiefs Quarterback that has thrown for 3 ints in a single half?... or that stretched out his receivers for absolute full impact in the backfield or up the middle everytime he throws the ball?.... He's thrown for that much yardage because we've been blown out and he's had to throw every play in the second half every game, while the defense is basically playing prevent against him. He's throwing underneath and everybody else is picking up yardage.

QB rating is about the most useless barometer for measuring a QB's play as there is.

Well, that all depends on how you choose to evaluate a QB.

Im speaking directly from a statistical perspective.

If you are going to evaluate a QB from a statistical perspective, then QB rating is good way to do it because it is one of the most consistent stats there is. Jmo.

The ratings will usually give you a good incidation on how you can grade out a QB. For example, if a QB rating falls within an 80-90 range then a person can grade out that QB as average. Or if a QB rating falls within a 90-100 range than a person can grade out that QB as good to excellent, etc
.

If you look back and trace the info on a lot of the great QBs like Brady, Manning, Brees or Rodgers you'll find that they have career QB ratings that lie between 90-100. Casshole on the other hand, has an 80 something QB rating.

The numbers themselves speak high volumes about where a QB stands. This is why I think its a very reliable statistic. I wouldn't underestimate it.

The only problem with QB rating is that it's an overlooked stat.

I'd put 4 of those 5 TD's in the garbage time category too. 2 against the Bills and 2 today. Down 27-6... when last week you just set the all-time franchise record for biggest comeback at 18 points down... you ain't comming back for the win.

Johnny Unitas and John Elway had career ratings below 80.

Meanwhile, Vinny Testaverde had a career rating only a couple of points lower.

It's a worthless measure.

bricks
09-30-2012, 07:48 PM
Those Garbage Time Gus stats also effect his overall QB rating.

I guarantee you they won't.

Cassel came into this game with a 73.8 QB rating which is atrocious btw.

You know what his rating was today? 60.7.

Check the stats tomorrow when they're updated and I guarantee you he will prolly have either the same QB rating or worse.

Yeah but the league has changed. And so have the rules.

Back in the day the passing game wasn't favoured so much as it is today.

Since the rules have changed and the league has evolved into pass happy, QBs are becoming more efficient then ever. This is why we prolly have such a big statisitical increase in the area of QB rating.

And how about his best game ever stat wise as a Chiefs. Against Denver in 2010 where he threw for over 400 yards with 4 TD's and 0 INT's. Almost all of that came after we spotted the Bronco's a 35-0 lead.

All interns and grunts simultaneously: Yes, sir. Real good.

It appears as if game 4 of 1994 was possibly Montana's worst game as a Chief. I don't recall it specifically. But I do see that Montana threw for 703 yards in his next 2 games that season... the second one being one of the most awesome games in Chiefs history on Monday Night in Denver.

That mark ranks him first in franchise history for most passing yards during the first four games of the season. He breaks QB Joe Montana’s record of 1,054 yards in the first four games of the 1994 season.

WOW, I'm just about lost for words! My expectations were low this year because of Cassel, but with ALL injuries aside I at least expected us to be competitive even with Cassel.Knowing we need a better QB to win is one thing, but to be embarrassed week in , week out is another.

I have no doubt that Clark probably told Pioli to make it work with Cassel, since he spent $63 million on him.

It won't have any affect because there are a few subtle things that you have to really look at it.

Stuff like percentage of TD passes per pass attempt. Percentage of interceptions per pass attempt.

And of course, average yards gained per pass attempts, etc.

All of those factors are pretty low for Cassel right now.

Dude, we haven't had a LEAD OF ANY KIND at any point in ANY game this season.

4 games - 8 halves - 16 quarters - and we've NEVER led.

Unbelievable.

Unbelievable.

And it all comes down to coaching. Romeo's defensive scheme blows complete ass for the first 3 to 4 drives. Cassel shits himself on the first drive and by the time the half rolls around....we're down big.

Yeah....it's fucking easy as shit to bring the heat when you're playing from behind. You've got nothing to lose doing that.

And then you run Charles constantly because he's bound to break one eventually. Cassel, the entire coaching staff and the entire FO need to GTFO.

I don't think this is getting any run in the media today. Why not?! It should be front page material for anybody covering this pitiful franchise!

It appears as if game 4 of 1994 was possibly Montana's worst game as a Chief.

It was the only game in his career in which he was shutout.

The Rams were pretty bad -- either 0-3 or 1-2, I think -- and the 3-0 Chiefs were heavy favorites. Afterwards, there were rumors that the team had been hit by the flu, and I remember seeing a giant sign on an office building that said, "The Rams didn't beat us -- the flu did!"

Un
Fucking
believable.

I understand that people fuck up, and not everyone can build an NFL team correctly, but this is just inexcusable idiocracy.
Is this real?? Are they really still trying to sell Matt?
I'm really in shock here. I have a hard time believing this is true.

Here's another presser, Scott.
Matt Cassel.

Ricky Stanzi has never thrown a regular season NFL pass. So the fact that Kansas City’s crowd, on at least one occasion, broke into a “Stanzi! Stanzi!” chant does not bode well for Cassel (or backup Brady Quinn).

One week after leading the Chiefs to a win in New Orleans, Cassel again face-planted in front of his home fans. He threw three interceptions, including a first-half pick-6, as the Chiefs were blasted by the Chargers in an important divisional matchup.

I can't believe this at all. If true, the Chiefs are the most arrogant, self-unaware organization on planet Earth.

They do it every game - they do the obscure stats for media in hopes that some reporter will run with it.

Here is the entire thing:
POSTGAME NOTES: CHIEFS VS. CHARGERS (9/30)

Pitoitua’s Multi-Sack Day: DE Ropati Pitoitua recorded the first multi-sack performance of his career with 2.0 sacks (-10.0 yards) of San Diego QB Philip Rivers. The sacks are his first QB takedowns as a member of the Chiefs. He now has 3.0 sacks for his career.

Hali’s Sack: LB Tamba Hali recorded his first sack of the season (-10.0 yards). The sack gives him 54.5 career sacks. He has recorded 9.5 sacks against San Diego in his career, all coming against QB Philip Rivers.

Charles’ Multi-Touchdown Day: In today’s game, RB Jamaal Charles recorded a 37-yard rushing touchdown and a 13-yard touchdown pass from QB Matt Cassel. It was the first game of Charles’ career in which he recorded at least one rushing and one receiving touchdown in the same game. It was the fourth multi-touchdown game of his career. Charles recorded a kickoff return for a touchdown and a touchdown reception vs. Pittsburgh (11/22/09), he ran for two touchdowns at Denver (1/3/10), and he caught two touchdown passes vs. Tennessee (12/26/10). Charles led all Chiefs rushers with 17 carries for 92 yards (5.4 avg.).

Cassel Passing Leader in First Four Games: With 251 passing yards today, QB Matt Cassel has accumulated 1,058 passing yards in the first four games of the season. That mark ranks him first in franchise history for most passing yards during the first four games of the season. He breaks QB Joe Montana’s record of 1,054 yards in the first four games of the 1994 season.

Bowe Goes for 100: WR Dwayne Bowe caught seven passes for 108 yards (15.4 avg.) and a 29-yard touchdown in today’s contest. It was his second 100-yard receiving performance of the season. The touchdown reception was his third of the season and his 39th career receiving touchdown.

Flowers’ Interception: CB Brandon Flowers registered his first interception of the season. The takeaway was his 14th career interception. It was his second career interception of San Diego QB Philip Rivers.

Colquitt’s Punting Average: P Dustin Colquitt booted four punts for 205 yards (51.3 gross, 51.3 net), with three inside the 20-yard line in today’s contest. His 51.3 net average is his highest net average for the season and ties for the second-highest net average performance in his career. His career best is a 52.0 net average performance at Indianapolis (10/10/10).

Arenas Moves Up Career Return Chart: With three punt returns for 39 yards (13.0 avg.), CB Javier Arenas has 81 punt returns for 865 yards in his career. That moves him into third place in Chiefs history for highest career punt return average with a 10.68 yards per return average. He moves past J.T. Smith (10.60) and Tamarick Vanover (10.66) for fourth and third, respectively.

CHIEFS RECORD BOOK

It's worse than politics. Spin, spin, spin. Unfortunately for them, we can see that the only thing spinning is the large turd called the Chiefs going down the toilet bowl instead of ever being a legitimate Super Bowl contender under this asshat.
